WIW and trying the K&A coat again

I’m trying on the Kit & Ace coat again with actual outfits.

Pics 1-5 are with what I’m wearing today. Simple bootcut jeans, red Rag & Bone sweater, Donald Pliner snake print loafers, and McQueen scarf.

Pics 6-9 - same outfit but with Veronica Beard blazer with hoodie dickey (what I will actually leave the house in if the Kit and Ace coat is a fail).

Pics 10-14 trying on the coat with the outfit I wore a couple of days ago — again super basic Lucky straight leg jeans, black sweater, and new Dolce Vita booties, plus trying with different scarves.

It occurred to me that I almost always add a scarf to a jacket outfit like this, so I should try on the coat with some of my scarves! Duh. I think it helps. The scarf fills in some of the opening created by the low stance of then coat and breaks up the expanse of plaid. I also realized I don’t care much about buttoning this weight of coat closed because it is not a cold weather piece.

Opinions welcome!

Haha, I actually put on makeup today (pic 9). Hair is air-dried and curly — I think i need to trim my bangs again.

Update: I’m keeping the coat! I finally got to show it to my husband and he agreed that styling makes all the difference. I think it looks better in person too — the movement and drape don’t capture well in photos. He thinks it’s really cool and said, “Keep!” He’s pretty picky so I trust him!

You looking gorgeous the way you have done your hair and make-up! Not that you don't usually, just more enhanced What stands out for me is that you look sassy and full of attitude in this coat, I think you do love it and that counts 100%. When I love an item it shines over anything else. You probably can get a more 'traditionally flattering' coat but if this one makes you feel so great it actually makes up for the rest and I can clearly see this in the pics, so I change my vote to Keep.

Love these outfits. That coat is gorgeous, the whole thing makes you look really tall. The red plaid is great too, a very different look than the long jacket.

First off - your hair ! Gorgeous like this ! And I’ll be the first to admit I didn’t like the coat on you the first time ‘round , but the addition of a scarf makes all the difference in the world . Glad you’re keeping it .

I feel like this is not the first time that you've completely turned something around with styling and I'm going to wait to respond in the future until I've seen the finished look.

I don't understand how adding a colorful, large print scarf reduced the busy-ness conflict I saw between your features and the coat.

I love all the versions - fab with your signature scarfs and jewelry!
My one small concern was grey color of the coat - it usually pulls my grey hair into the focus - but it works amazing in every outfit! Perfect styling and lovely hair ( make up gets us in the mood as well ).

Phoebe, I know, right??? I need to learn to only post things or seriously consider them when I have actually taken time to style them how I will really wear them in reality! Not try to copy the retail styling or just throw on over my running gear (so guilty of that!). And scarves are magical for me. I am not an adventurous pattern mixer at all, and I think this may be the most I have ever done — shoes, scarf, and long jacket all with distinctive patterns — but I think it works!

Thanks everyone! I really enjoyed wearing this today (and even got a compliment when I stopped in a local boutique for a little almost-normal shopping experience, something I haven’t had in months). It felt good.

Thanks for the comments on my hair too. I have the kind of unpredictable hair that will turn out horrible one day, and the next day using the exact same routine and products, it looks great. I can’t figure it out.

Good for you. For the record, I never had an issue with the coat from a flattery perspective. It was the masculine vibe which I did not think was you. But the way you have styled it here, you have softened and feminised it. Nice!
