WIW: a few recent outfits - YouLookFab Forum

#1-3: for my group guitar class. I’ve had my guitar for 30+ years. I think I’m finally learning to play it! #2 shows the necklace my husband gave me for me birthday. Lake Tahoe holds a special place in my heart. I was surprised to discover this weird colored Patagonia vest exactly matched one of my Eddie Bauer tees. Also, Columbia hiking pants, Dansko clogs and Timbuk2 messenger bag.

#4-5 for The Biggest Little Theater Festival, put on by our local community theater. We attended the reading of a brand new play. It was very intriguing and I’d like to see it staged. I copied Carla, wearing a Patagonia vest under my red duffle coat. Also, a column of navy - Levi’s bootcut jeans, Born boots, sweater, thrifted scarf.

#6-7 for a traveling Broadway show - The Book of Mormon. It was great! We laughed so hard. It had warmed up from the morning when I wore my red duffle to church, so I wore a Woolrich jacket with a charcoal sweater and grey corduroy pants, grey Born boots and a secondhand scarf. In retrospect, the scarf seemed too bright.

#8 - the stage as we arrived. I had checked online for tickets and saw that it was sold out. But I entered the lottery and got great seats for only $25 each. Apparently this is something the Broadway shows do. If something comes to your area, this might be worth checking out.

You’ve got a great collection of colorful jackets! How fun the greens match in outfit 1. The red coat pairs well with the column in navy for outfit 2. The scarf and plaid jacket in outfit 3 is a fun pattern mix too. Bravo!

I love the red and white scarf! Not too bright at all. I saw Book of Mormon a few years ago and just loved it. They do the Broadway lottery in Chicago but I've never entered, good idea!

Creative styling with colour. The lemon-lime with the grey looks especially cool with the bottoms bookending your hair. Beautiful hair colour, BTW. Love the red duffle, too. Your accessaries are the best combination of beautiful/interesting/ and personal.

Lisa, thank you. Before YLF I would never have mixed patterns, but now I love it. The most I’ve worn at once was four, including my bag.

Roberta, thank you. The scarf felt too bright when I wore it without the jacket, as during the intermission when I was in line for the restroom.

Carla, thank you. Because of you, I’ve started wearing my gear vests for dressier outfits. TBH, though, the outfits of the other people at the show were all over the place, from sparkly dresses to gym clothes.

Angie, thank you. I wore the scarf with the coat and a striped sweater a few weeks ago. It was a pretty loud look!

Sal, thank you. In another discussion I came to the conclusion that my coloring was neutral - neither warm nor cold. I think it’s possible. But I don’t like wearing too much contrast. I joke that I already look like a ghost.

Robin, thank you. I’ve been collecting green lately. I love wearing olive, and thought this vest was kind of olivey. Well it’s not, but I like it anyway.

Dee, thank you. I’ve taken so many guitar lessons. This time it’s through OLLI, an organization for seniors, and is taught by two volunteers. Since the last time I took lessons, though, I’ve been learning to play the ukulele and the mandolin. Playing those instruments has really helped me with the guitar. Also, the teachers are really good!

JAileen, you're looking fab. I love your hair in a bob, and these outfits are great. The soft green is a fantastic color for you, and great with your Lake Tahoe necklace. I see what you mean with the scarf--it kind of jumps out in photo #6--but I like it with that plaid jacket. I also really like it with the outfit alone in #7. So I guess I don't see it as "too" bright. Like you, I am wary of too much contrast for my own coloring, so I can relate to that impulse for the toned-down color combos.

Thanks for the tip about Broadway shows. How fun that you got in, with good seats at a bargain price!

Red, and blue, and green, oh my! I like your new necklace. And how fun that the new vest is a perfect match for the tee. Love you especially in the red coat and the column of navy, but then I am biased. I also like the red and white scarf in the last outfit -- fun pattern mix. Sounds as if you are making the most of winter with your theatrical events!

The red coat just popped out of the thumbnails. Then I saw the red scarf and I was wow, red is JAileen’s happy color.

The green outfit looks perfect for a guitar lesson, easy and comfortable but put together. And of course I love the column of navy

Sharan, thank you. Those of us who are low contrast get what I’m saying about the scarf. I think it was too much contrast with all the grey. But with the jacket, I think it was toned down enough. And yet here I am wearing a bright red coat!

Angie, hahaha! You had a post on pattern mixing in November, and I thought my outfit was really loud - you can see a little bit of the striped sweater with the polka dot scarf and the coat.

Suz, thank you. It’s no wonder you like the navy outfit - I probably copied you! I love your style and copy you shamelessly. Most of the time I wear hiking pants and hoodies, though.

Kkards, thank you. You, Suz, Angie and I wear lots of navy. There are others here - who am I forgetting? The rest of the world wears black instead. Those who can wear black are lucky because everything comes in black.

Bonnie, thank you. I was surprised the musical was sold out. I thought by now that everyone had already seen it. In fact, I mentioned it to a friend and she said she had seen it three times!
