WIW 9/14 and 9/15: Trying to stay cool

It has been blisteringly hot the past few days. Today my car told me it was 112 at 4:30 p.m.! Yikes! So I am all about trying to beat the heat!

1. Yesterday I went to a party at a friend's house and because she called and asked me to make an emergency run for ice, I didn't have time to shave my legs (I know -- TMI) so I opted for my white linen pants, which worked out nicely, I thought.

2. Today's work outfit looks business-as-usual but it's all lightweight and the skirt is cotton blend and the blouse is linen, so it was reasonably comfortable. And the jacket kept me from freezing in the a/c.

3. And in house news, I got very tired of the dust this weekend and vacuumed up as much as I could from the RAM board covering the wood floors. My poor vacuum cleaner will never be the same (note to self: buy a new one when this is over), but the grit factor is significantly lower. And here's the hallway to prove it!

#1 is outstanding - crisp, fresh, and I love the white pants, that gorgeous top, and the blue clutch. I like how your shoes and the skirt in #2 go so nicely together.

I know how you feel about all the construction dust. We did major renovations a few years ago, and the mess and dust, the dust, the mess - awful!

And that temperature - WOW!

Thanks, Karie! I was surprised and pleased at how well the dust vacuumed up. I was a little chagrined I hadn't thought of trying it sooner. And I am doing my very best to keep a good attitude about the whole thing. This house renovation has long been a dream of mine and I promised myself at the outset that I would enjoy it and take the mess and inconvenience with a grain of salt. So far I am doing a pretty good job of being thankful instead of complainy, I think. It will be done soon enough and then I will have my dream house!

Anna, we were posting at the same time! I am definitely looking forward to my cooler-weather sojourn in Seattle in a couple of weeks!

MsMary, that first outfit is gorgeous! And can I ask a rude question? How tall are you? You really rock those wide legged pants. I've always avoided them as a shorty, but in the white they look wonderful, and I'm wondering if maybe the shortness is not such a problem!
Love the second outfit too.
As someone who has lived through a number of renovations in two houses, I can sympathise with the dust! It lingers.... But it is all worthwhile in the end

Lucy, not rude at all! I'm a shorty, too -- 5'2" on a good day! I think it's all in the fit and the proportions. These are pretty fitted in the hips and seat.

Classically Casual, my challenge in the heat is that my exterior doors don't fit very well (gaps at the top of the door), and one whole wall in the den is torn out (waiting for the glass door) and just covered with plywood. Not to mention that the master bath is torn out to the studs including the floor -- you can look through the floor joists and see the dirt under the house! So there are plenty of places for the hot air to sneak into the house. I'm keeping the interior doors to those rooms closed but the a/c is still working overtime and not able to really do the whole job. It's about 81 in here at the moment, which I think isn't bad, all things considered.

After our remodel our vacuum cleaner died. It OD'ed on sheetrock dust.

I've now seen a few of your outfits and I am very impressed! You always have interesting outfits without having to be too "out there." The attention is still drawn to you, rather than the clothes.. they aren't wearing you. Anyway, I'm babbling now. You look really good - I think that's mostly what I'm trying to convey :D.

Any chance you can buy or borrow a shop vac? Construction dust will ruin a vacuum cleaner faster than anything, so your current one may not hold up until the construction is complete and the dust is out.

I like the Birckenstocks, just no socks with them! As for the Ram Board floor protector, you can vacuum it, but also ask your buiulder to put down a fresh layer once in a while - does wonders for the appearance of the room!
