WIW 1/22/13 Shy in a Remixed blazer

Quick wiw before an evening meeting. Remixed Theory blazer. Top and pants are BR and have been seen before in different colors. Lucky booties via 6pm.com

I feel shy in a blazer, as though I'm dressing up too much or pretending to be grand. Anyone else ever feel that way about an article of clothing?

Sometimes I feel that way about dresses/skirts. Given how much they seem to like my figure, I am learning to feel less that way.

You shouldn't feel shy! A nice blazer like that should make you feel ready to conquer the world

That being said, I have felt self-conscious in things, which tends to happen when I'm wearing something different than I normally do, in which case, the self-consciousness goes down after repeated wearings and getting a handle on people's reactions.

It can be tough to challenge an environmental norm, but sometimes we feel this way more because we're not familiar with wearing a garment. Once we wear it a few times we don't feel quite so dressed up.

Thistle, Amy, Suz, cciele: I have usually dressed in a mixture of Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, Target, and H&M (shoes and bags excepted). I love the idea that you don't have to spend money to look good. Then a Nordy SA put me in this Theory blazer and the response at work (from people who have probably never heard of Theory) was immediate. "Nice blazer! You look VERY professional today! How long have you had that? You look VERY nice!" People responded to it very differently from how they respond to anything else I wear. It was so interesting to see them respond to the quality of the piece. But hence the shyness! When I wear a Gap blazer nobody bothers about it.

I bought it in March and it's taken me till now to try wearing it often enough that people get used to it.

I've also realized: this is a 3-season piece. Now granted that the 4th season (Summer) is about 6 months long. Still. A well-tailored blazer in a lightweight gray wool takes me through Fall, Winter, and Spring. Yay!

You look great and the jacket looks like it works really well with the outfit.

I can understand how you feel. I also sometimes feel shy when I'm trying out a new look for the first time and wonder how other people will react. You truly look lovely though, so try not to feel to shy about it. (In other words, don't you dare put that baby in the back of your wardrobe! :-))

You look lean and mean and ready to go anywhere Not at all too dressed up. But I know what you mean. Just this morning I was getting dressed and thought about wearing my floral-on-black pants, then realized that was actually too much for the office with the fanciness of my top. So I put them back and put on jeans and, for once, threw on a necklace to give the outfit a little more formality and reduce the "slumming it" factor.
