WIW 10/20, featuring Shoptoberfest daytime clutch

Today I went to a Bar Mitzvah and wanted to look festive, not too officey, not too eveningy, and not too "it's all about me." I hope this outfit filled the bill. The bag is from the recent Shoptoberfest YLF meetup -- I had been wanting a burgundy bag and a daytime clutch, and thinks to Una ferreting out this beauty at Marshall's, I was able to kill two birds with one stone!

Bright and breezy! You do colors so well, while keeping the entire look tailored but not overly fussy.

Thanks, ladies! Shiny, I mean I didn't want to wear something that would look like I was trying to draw too much attention to myself and take the spotlight away from the host family and the Bar Mitzvah boy. Another way to say it might be "not too fashiony."

I might add that one of the aunts didn't get the memo. She wore a skin tight ivory sheath dress with very skimpy straps and a very low neckline with lots of cleavage, a lot of expensive jewelry, a ton of makeup, and sky-high Christian Louboutin platform shoes with those unmistakable red soles. I'm sure she's a lovely woman because the whole family is lovely, but her outfit made exactly the kind of "it's all about me" statement I was trying to avoid.

It always kind of mystifies me when people dress in inappropriate ways for big family events like this. I remember a friend's wedding I went to years ago -- a morning wedding, in a church in a small town in Oklahoma, with a non-alcoholic tea-and-sandwiches type afternoon reception -- when the mother of the groom, who was in her 50s and not especially well preserved, if you know what I mean, wore a skin-tight black mini skirt, fishnet tights, sky-high heels, and a sequinned tank top. At the time the sky-high heels were definitely not a mainstream trend and were associated with, well, hookers, which is what she looked like. I still can't imagine why anyone would choose an outfit like that to wear to a wedding in the first place, but especially as a member of the bridal party!
