WIW - purple pants and beyond

Hi all! I haven’t been getting dressed up much lately but thought I would share a few WIWs.

Earth tones outfit - I wore this on my birthday! I rewarded myself with a trip to the museum (first in a year!) to see in an Indian fabric painting and patterns exhibit (right up my alley - I was so inspired!)

The mustard sweater is the one I got from J Crew recently, paired with a vintage silk peacock scarf. Cardigan + silk scarf is my Zoom go-to these days.

Finally - the J Crew pants! I tried to get a couple of different angles so you could see them properly. Worn with heeled boots for structure and a moody floral turtleneck.

All thoughts and constructive criticism welcome!

I love that mustard cardigan with the vintage scarf -just perfection ! You find the greatest vintage pieces . I’ll be honest in saying I don’t love the purple pants as I find them a lot of pant on you , but I respect that you like them , and the floral turtleneck is a great pairing .

I envy you the trip to the museum. Was it the Textile Museum of Canada, the ROM, or another? Did you go with your mom?

@Lisa - I’ll be honest in saying that I was surprised that I liked them on me - my priorities have been so much about figure flattery. But something about the pandemic has brought out the ‘I only live once, no F’s to give’ attitude in me, and somehow I love wearing these parts in a different, more avant- garde shape. But I hear you abs always appreciate your honesty and diplomatic opinions

@Carla - I do want to try the pants with the mustard cardigan! In fact I like purple best with earth tones.

Thank you for the birthday wishes! The exhibit was in the origin of chintz in India. It was FASCINATING. I desperately wanted to go with my mom but we thought better of it (she is getting older and is caring for my dad, who has just had shoulder surgery.) I wore my mask the whole time (except for this pic, taken in the bathroom) but luckily there weren’t many people around so it was easy to distance. I will likely go see it again when restrictions let up.

I love how you paired the purple pants with the fitted turtle neck - that is the way to wear avant garde body ignoring shapes when you don't want to go all in! Mustard sweater with beautiful peacock scarf is gorgeous. Also love the on the go look with coat - "our" hair is stunning! Kids are adorable, and finally: Happy birthday!

I got my purple pants and they’re a bit too big (they were out of my proper size). But I still think it’s ok— they’re just even MORE PANTS! More avant-garde??? In any case I love them. The color, the cut, fab fab fab.

Happy birthday! Thanks for showing the pants in action! I can see why you like them but I can also see now that I would feel horribly self-conscious in them. It IS a lot of pants :-D.

I love these Roxanna - there is so much to these outfits, but in a way that makes them rich and interesting but not overwhelming. Textures, rich and subtle colours, the pattern mix ... really, really artistic and beautiful.

Happy birtghday, Roxanna-you had me with the mustard cardi and your lovely children! Then, I see what Lisap said about the pants- they seem indeed a bit overwhelming on your slim frame, but hey, we all have some outfits JFE-and use them accordingly.
Say-in the case of these pants- if mostly -covered by a coat, or thinking nobody will notice as being alone big part of the day... or when fashion police can only see us from the waist up:-)...or our boots/other parts of the outfit will blind them before even noticing---or we have a very confident day and simply don't care what others will say...-So all good, we have to trust and respect your decision to keep them in your precious wardrobe-BTW they have a fab color, a (perhaps) more edgy/trendy cut and are of wool! May be wrong, but strying them with a faux fur/puffer vest for adding a bit of bulk to the torso and so achieving more harmonious proportion?

I’ll admit that I’m with Lisa in not loving the pants but that is my own personal bias speaking because I find that style extremely hard to wear personally, to the point of a poison eye. However, I love the turtleneck, and your mustard coat ensemble is brilliant! I like that you’re wearing what you love!

I love the purple pants! KILLER with the floral top. Body con worn with volume is a great juxtaposition. Showcases your gorgeous curves. The pants fit you really well, and I sooo get why you were drawn to them. the thighs-bottom-waist fit is sooooo good! I have an '80s sugar eye so personally, I find them flattering. This was the silhouette we wore back in 1985 and it was as mainstream as eating buttered toast. Great memories, and I am very nostalgic

To be fair, I bet the purple pants look even better in person. The camera angle here is a little top-heavy.

Your kiddos are super sweet!

It’s no secret that I like curvy (which is different from overall big) bodies more than most people here. I think the slimming top that shows off that curve of your waist is fantastic with the pants that play up your lower curves. The museum outfit is great too—love the color pairing and the playfulness of that big coat over the slim items underneath. Have you tried the topper as a cardi with the purple pants/slim top outfit? The mustard, from straight across the color wheel from the purple, might be a fun pairing with it, and the topper is short enough that it wouldn’t cover the waist of the pants, so we’d still see that you have a waist, or you could wear it open over a fairly tailored top.

I've been thinking about this - and agree with Lyn in that a chunky vest, or boxy jacket would be great too , to balance the propertions.

Roxanna, happy birthday! What a wonderful treat to go to the museum for that exhibit -- I'd have loved that, too. Amazing that a museum outing feels positively thrilling these days, right? Well, I'd always have enjoyed it, but now....

I love the purple pants, too. Yes, they are a lot, but in a good way, to my eye -- playing up your shape. Then again, I also remember the 80s and loved those pleated pegged pants then because they were among the first pants I'd ever found that fit my then curvier shape.

I found a pair of these in my size again, but hesitated because there are no returns....so I will probably do without. But I really love the colour, fabric, and shape. And it encourages me to see how well they look on you.

I also love the mustard cardi with the scarf! You just get better and better at mixing your vintage and consigned pieces with new ones. That's style!

Wow - these pants have sparked quite a conversation!

One thing I love about the YLF forum is how everyone is honest yet respectful. I can totally see that maybe it seems like a lot of pant for me, and even though I don't usually dig an 80's vibe, I really like these. I actually think these pants work better on my curvy body than a long lean body, because I fill them out, but that's just personal preference (finally a thigh-hip-waist ratio that works for my body, @Angie!!) And as @Angie said, the camera angle is a little off here - I'll try to get i right next time.

In fact, I think in my next iteration, I'll go all in with some volume on top in earth tones, like @FashIntern and @LisaP suggested. Though I'm glad so many of you, like me, love a moody dark floral.

I think for me, I've been hugging the line of conventionally flattering for quite a long time now, and I'm really being drawn to playing with proportions and shapes. And also, the last 9 months of being in leisurewear mostly have really inspired me to wear whatever the heck I want moving forward, and being a little more adventurous!

I like the pants and I think they might be super well balanced silhouette wise and color wise by Runcarla's mustard cardigan idea.

I think they look great with boots and it's so funny, this style really does not look so unusual to me! With boots they look comfortable and practical for the cool wet weather of autumn and winter!
