WIW - Layering Shorts for Fall

Hello.

Since it's taking time for our fall to stay cool throughout the day, I decided to try layering pieces from my fall capsule wardrobes with shorts.

It's really nice to start layering again now that the weather is starting to cool down in the mornings and evenings.

#1 - #3 - Life is Good Spice Girl Tee and WHBM Jacket and Shorts in Smoky Topaz
I really liked this combination of ivory and browns for fall. The jacket and shorts are a few years old but they are the same as the Oat shorts in the finds.

#4 and #5 - Rails Hunter Metallic Plaid Shirt and WHBM Mid-Rise Pret-A-Play Shorts in Oat
WHBM shorts fit me very well and I own them in a few colors. They are very easy to dress up and down, I like the inseam length, and the material is soft but has structure. I thought it was neat that the tank from Amazon perfectly matched the Oat colored shorts from WHBM. Don't you love when that happens?

Angie - Layering the shorts this week has been a fun way to continue sporting them during our warm fall weather. The shorts set was my favorite too. And yes, my matchy-matchy gene was very happy with the tank and shorts pairing.

The gold belt would indeed be a nice addition. Boden has a really nice selection of belts! I have the blue stripe and tan belts on order from your previous recommendation. I'm hoping they arrive soon so I can see if the size works and then I can pick up this one. Thanks for the suggestion!

This stand from Amazon has really helped me up my WIW photos game. I recently got it and so far I'm very pleased. I haven't tried the remote that's included, I just use the timer on my phone.

You look great! I agree that these photos are fantastic, so hopefully you don't mind the extra effort of using the stand. I almost never wear shorts with long sleeves (since I run cold, I'm often better off wearing lightweight pants with a sleeveless of short sleeve top) but I enjoy seeing these outfits-- I particularly like the one with the plaid top.

I've laundered and set aside most of my shorts for the season and now it's looking like we'll have at least another week (if not more) of shorts weather where I am. I'm hoping I can get by with dresses and skirts and the one pair I haven't let laundered.

Jenny H - I'm with you, I never used to wear shorts with long sleeves either, but with our large temperature variations throughout the day, it seems to work. I only get to wear the jackets/shirt/top layer for a couple of hours before it's too hot and I'm taking it off for the rest of the day. Thanks for looking!

Kate - I never used to be a fan of shorts, but the past few years I found styles that I really enjoy. It started with a pair of WHBM shorts and I found the longer inseam and fabric more comfortable than most denim options which often run very short in the inseam and/or the thick material clings to the thigs, which I don't want when it's hot out. When I started college in 1982, some of the female students were wearing their denim cutoffs (well weathered from a summer spent sailing off Nantucket) with thick tights beneath. That was the first time I'd see shorts as a fall combination.

April - I remember when shorts and tights were THE thing to wear. I can't recall the last time I actually wore a pair of tights.

Angie - The belts should arrive by Monday, so hopefully next week I can get some WIWs with them. I'm currently debating what to add to the gold belt order, but there are too many things that I like! *laughs*

Thanks for posting your shorts style outfits!

I’m a shorts wearer during warm weather and will wear a long sleeved top or even a topper with shorts for cool mornings and evenings, rather than longer bottoms. If my core is warm - I’m good!

Summer temps are holding firm where I live (northern shore of Lake Ontario in Ontario, Canada) with temps in the high 20’s Celsius and ‘feeling like’ low 30’s Celsius (high 80’s Fahrenheit). I’ve worn shorts outfits 84 times so far this year, and I’m in shorts for the next week or two. I don’t think of them much as elements of style - but it looks like I should - since, shorts are some of my hardest working garments!

Runcarla - I was a big fan of shorts this past summer. I've worn shorts more often ever since I moved to a warmer climate. When it's 100F outside, it's tough to wear anything other than shorts in light fabrics, or linen pants. Your number of times wearing shorts looks like it is a key component of your style. We are in day 252 out of the year. If you've worn your shorts ~33% of the year so far. A nice amount of times sporting shorts. Thanks for looking!
