WIW - is this OTT gone wrong?

I wore this yesterday. I was a little unsure about it but hubby insisted it was good. It was definitely OTT - the orange jacket, the purple pleated skirt, the gold turtleneck (which doesn't really read gold in this picture). Then when I was out of the house, I got lots of looks and I felt self-conscious. It certainly could have been that I definitely stuck out in a sea of black and grey suits. Or it could have been that I looked like a drum major, which is kind of my fear. Thoughts?

I lean toward minimal so I'm sure I'm not the best to analize this. IMHO it would look FAB if you remove the jacket and the beads. I do like the jacket/skirt color combo but maybe would like it better if the jacket was a little shorter.

I think it's OTT in a good way! The colors just work somehow. My only suggestion is that a cropped blazer may have worked better, proportionally. Less bulk since the skirt is full and I think it would have made you look taller, longer legs.

I think all of the elements are really nice. I too would like the jacket better if it were cropped and I would probably remove the necklace. The bright colors are fab. The more you wear bright colors, the more comfortable you'll be in them. Since I've started wearing screaming brights to work, I've noticed that a lot of other people are starting to wear more color here too. It's amusing...and fabulous.

I like the orange and the purple, the vintage vibe, the nude boots. I would take off the necklace too

I can definitely relate to feeling self conscious in lots of color! I think a more cropped, fitted blazer might be better with the fullness of the skirt, and I agree with others the necklace isn't really needed. The other thing I'd try with that skirt and t-neck would be darker tights. It seems to be not exactly "winter" with the light legs.

I can see where you were going with it, but maybe a tad OTT. Have you tried this with a jeans jacket?

Sweet! I don't think it's OTT. Perhaps relatively, in a sea of classic suits. It's bright and happy!

I feel like removing the necklace. But that could be my over responsive Minimalist gene being bossy.

Agree about removing the necklace next time... that's right, next time!... it's a tad formal.

I LOVE the orange and purple together! I see how the necklace brings the turtleneck in better proportion with the skirt. A shorter jacket would make the proportions even better. Another idea would be to wear purple tights with footwear in a similar tone.

Wow. I'm excited and happy about all the positive feedback. Since I'm busty, I always feel like I should wear a necklace with turtlenecks, but maybe the jacket line is elongating enough in this case.

Moira, jeans are a good idea. I usually wear this jacket for work. I don't reserve my jackets just for work, so I'm sure it'll come out to play with jeans sometime.

Angie, the happy colors took me to a happy place. At the same time, it was a style stretch thus the hesitation. Gotta run over to the forum to post the insights on happiness that I got from this exercise.

I like the colors. I think the orange and purple work, especially with he nude boots. I would take off the necklace with a gold top. I know cropped jackets are preferred with fuller skirts, but I still think this works.

i love the colors ummm wi will say maybe a v neck would have be perfect...I'm busty and i feel to off when i wear turtle necks ..
