WIW - 2x weekend casual

These are two outfits I wore this weekend for walks, some errands and a visit to MIL.
The first consists of a cream quilted jacket from Persona by Marina Rinaldi, a pair of Geox sneakers, very old cotton chinos with a black sweater and a classic silk scarf tucked in. The bag is from Coach a few years old and the sunglasses are about 16 years old Stella Mc Cartney. Not loving this - a bit stiff somehow…. frumpy? What do you think? In my head or not good? To much contrast? Wrong shoes? Something else?

The second outfit was a pleasant surprise. I dug out an old thrifted denim coat which I rarely wear, because I couldn’t come up with any combination I would really like. Tried it with the new faux leather pants - over a column of black. I think it works - has some ease to it. I felt good in this combo. What do you think?

First, no need to apologize about lots of posting all the time. It is actually quite the apposite- we should be thanking you for posting, as your combinations provide lots of inspirations.

As usual, both outfits are excellent. Love the proportions in the second one, lots of fun. I do not see anything wrong with the first one. If something feels off, perhaps try it with black sneakers/shoes. It might feel sleeker or more “you” that way.

Hi Katerina -- I think you've found the perfect styling for that denim coat -- it looks great over your column of black. I think the length and shape of the pant leg also contributes.

I think the second outfit also looks good. If you're feeling something is a bit off, maybe try a cream or black bootie in place of the sneakers?

I love that denim coat and that outfit is fabulous. I don't see anything wrong with the first one however maybe it is lacking a bit of edge that I see in your other outfits - difficult to pinpoint. Thank you so much for posting regularly lately, I may not always comment but your outfits are very inspirational. You have a very good sense for style and it is interesting and helpful to see what you come up with.

What Tanya and Carol said! Your outfits always provide inspiration (these included!). Love how you styled the denim coat. It's amazing how sometimes an item can suddenly come into its own with the right "support act" as Angie calls it. The faux leather pants are real winners for you in this case.

I think maybe the footwear felt off in #1. The cooler tones of those sneakers may be fighting with the warmer cream (though maybe less so, IRL, than in the pic?) In any case, I'm betting you'd like the outfit wiht a different shoe. It may feel a bit less casual than you were aiming for, too, though, with the quilted jacket and structured bag. That just depends on what you were hoping to achieve.

The second outfit is absolutely winner with the denim coat, beautiful. I see what you mean for the first. You always look elegant and that pants and the rest of the outfit are elegant but sneakers are too casual, two or three colors I can't see, so just change them, maybe black or white, cream, or casual shoes and the problem solved. As Tanya said, no need to apologize about lot of posting, it's a pleasure to see your outfits.

Love the denim coat especially. Both are gorgeous. Frumpy is not a work I can associate with you and I always enjoy your posts. You are a style inspiration!

On 1, I think the coat collar, hoodie top and scarf all bundled together may be giving a sort of closed in look at the top. What about opening the neck area up a bit with a boatneck sweater?

Love #1. The cream jacket looks delicious, and the colour repetition in the scarf and footwear makes the ensemble extra yummy. You look gorgeous in high-contrast ( black&white etc.) outfits like this.

I am loving look #1! If you feel it's too stiff, try tying the scarf differently, aiming for off-duty instead of office.

I love your casual looks--both are super fab. What a fun smile you have in that blue denim coat. Yes, it's a terrific outfit! Good to see you found a way to wear the coat that feels true to your style.

I agree with others who suggested a change in shoe type/colour for #1. I like the unexpected denim coat in #2 and glad you’ve found a use for it and you like how you’ve styled it too.

Agree with Tanya et al. above - post every day! post twice a day! !
Love the silhouette you have created with the denim coat over wide legs. As for the first outfit, I think it works best without the jacket (#3). The white jacket with the light shoes creates an awkward proportion. Not that it looks bad, not at all, but perhaps less visually pleasing than your other outfits.

The shoes feel off with the first outfit. If I use black Chelsea boots - it will work better.

Suz, you are right about the colour - it is not the same tone of cream, I have not noticed at first, but might be a part of the problem.

I feel a bit ridiculous in my attempts to do casual outfits. What I first thought would read as casual is actually rather dressy due to the character of the jacket, the way the scarf is done, the quite structured bag, and I used grey pearl earrings - totally routinely. No wonder this outfit is neither casual nor dressy, it is in between. Perhaps that is what feels off - I was aiming at another kind of look.

These are great. That denim duster is fabulous! I agree the first outfit would be better with different shoes. Maybe black sneakers would be as casual as you want but tie in better? Boots for sure would work.

I like both outfits. I have a similar jacket to yours in #1. I am looking for a blend with light full length pants but fit now am wearing it with a column of dark brown as the buttons are brown.
Your second I am inspired to try with a column of black and a denim dress worn open as a duster.

Frankly, I would be kind of bummed if you were not posting a lot, Katerina. Your looks are so polished and inspiring. I like the first outfit, but I noticed my eye went right to your shoes. Different and less contrasting footwear might help. The second outfit with the denim duster is really special and you look fab in it. I had a denim duster and let it go because I didn't know how to integrate into the wardrobe items I already have.

Nuancedream, thank you for the kind comments! The denim duster was close to be edited away, but I kept it because I love the retro look of it and the length. It is all cotton and very thick as well - probably old good quality. I am glad I kept it and will use it over different black outfits. I have a black knitted midi dress with a turtleneck - it might also work nicely under this duster.

I love your style and I am personally delighted you are posting more often :). I really like the first outfit--maybe it's the light-colored sneakers that are throwing you off, vs. black footwear? (sleeker somehow, and bookends your dramatic hair perfectly) I agree that the long denim jacket works beautifully with your faux leather pants--the contrast between the fabrics is so nice and the silhouette looks chic.

I agree with Shevia, we need a daily Katerina post! I love both of these and SO understand your issue with finding it hard to be less dressy when you like wearing tailored and structured clothing. Whilst I don’t think anyone would ever describe your style as casual, the use of denim and leather in #2 helps to make a structured silhouette look more casual. Like The Cat and Angie, I love #1 too.
