WIW…footwear bookending outerwear

Replaced old gym sneakers, but have fallen in love with the new ones as a ‘fashion sneaker’. They are ‘busy’ with lots of detail, but the colours are all in my wheelhouse - white, cream, silver, beige, and black! The new sneakers just so happen to book-end my black and white check coat! Comfortable, as is the norm for a good running shoe.

Sort of inspired by today’s post (matching footwear to outerwear), but not black - assembled a casual look for a short trip accompanying DH for an eye check-up. (Good news for him at the. check-up, too!) Chose the beige turtleneck and black bag with silver hardware to pick up the sneakers.

So what do you think about ‘dad sneaker’ style?

Lovely sneakers, work beautifully with your coat.

I have never been a huge fan of “dad’s sneakers “ myself, have a pair that I picked for their high comfort but I like lower profile sneakers more.

Well they do bookend your coat beautifully. Otherwise, although I used to do it in the 90s, I try not to wear a running shoe with my regular clothes. I don’t regard my Skechers ( which BTW is the correct spelling, no “t” in the brand name) as running shoes. They’re perhaps not exactly “fashion sneakers” either though, I am not sure of the definitions of various types!

Personally, Dad sneakers are not for me. I'm not the athletic and sporty type, and prefer daintier shoes. They look odd on me, because they are dishonest somehow.

That said, when they are co-ordinated as well as you have shown us here - my thumbs are up, up, up for the wearer!

These dad sneakers look great and work perfectly in bookending your outfit. I also think that the length and slimmer line of the jeans help balance their proportions. So often I find these type of sneakers look too chunky and tend to make the whole outfit feel a bit sloppy.

I'm a sneakers gal, and never met a sneaker I didn't like, so count me in for Dad style sneakers!

Dad sneaker style is amazing, but I do think it falls into the category of menswear--a certain type of woman can pull it off. Otherwise we are talking about the sea of benign pure white sneakers that are still out there--not nearly as risky as a New Balance-looking Dad sneak.

I enjoy this look, and wonder what I might do with Dad sneakers. In my neck of the woods, it's all about flashy basketball shoes.

I received a pair of these sneakers as a gift for some voluntary work. Will be a bit harder to style…

My brother wears very similar shoes. He even wore black ones with his tux to his daughter’s wedding. The discussion that preceded that choice must have been interesting. I’m attracted to old school styles (Adidas Gazelles, Stan Smiths, Jack Purcells), so I won’t be joining you on this style journey of yours. I do love your coat, though.

I really like this outfit and especially the juxtaposition of the dressier coat with the sneakers. What I like about this particular pair of Dad sneakers is the color combo with the outfit and the silver on them--they don't look like you just threw on your running shoes.
