WITO: What I Tried On but didn't buy yet. Need opinions.

I'm not sure if I will buy any of these. The clothes aren't what I'm used to wearing but I'm trying to be open minded. The coat is closest to my style but I'm not sure if it is a lint magnet & I'm not sure if I should buy out of season in case I don't like it by next season.

1, 2 & 3 - Are there better silky track pants than these without paying $200 or more? Are there ones that are a less baggy style, with a narrower leg? Would I be better without cargo pockets if these are for work? Is blouse OK? Is any of this me?

4 - Coat

5 - Are the shoulder pads too much on this blazer? I think the blazer is too big but they didn't have a smaller one. I could look in another store but I'm sure the shoulder pads will be big in a size smaller.

6 & 7 - Skorts without vest.

8 - Skorts in black smaller size. Seems too small but white ones felt too big & were riding low. If I bought though I'd prefer bigger than smaller.

9 - Skorts with vest in white.

Well, I like all of these! It's hard to tell fit in the photos but I love all the styles. Although I wouldn't spend $200 on an item that's out of your comfort zone right away. These look very much like Raisin's style - are you feeling a new direction?

I'm not sure if I'm feeling a new direction Una. I'm trying to be open & not dated but I still want to be me. I went in looking for a white blazer to do the white thing the way Emmanuel Alt does it. I tried the vest because I thought it was blazer like for hotter days & on trend.

I also went in there (Zara) to try on silky trackpants because the style was suggested to me with my what to wear to see clients question http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....in-at-home

I love #1 and #6. I think you've nailed that slouchy look with #1-3. I also think #6 looks great on you, but I don't know if I can give you any help on where you might wear it.

The coat is really interesting, and I think I ought to like it, but there is just something about the top that I'm not crazy about--maybe it's the placement of the buttons and the low-hanging lapels? The jacket is an interesting sharp-shouldered look which looks fabulous on you, but maybe just a touch too big? I'd love to see it in a smaller size just to compare. And that skort is way more interesting than just a plain pair of shorts; you have the shape to really wear those kinds of designs.

Can I just say that I'm crushing on your new style direction. It's edgy, but sophisticated. And absolutely fabulous.

I like these pieces, too, Elle. It really does appear that you might be headed in a new direction.

I actually really like the track pants. #3 is so much fun! I can see these working very well in your work environment.

The coat looks really neat to me. If the fit feels good and you have occasion to wear, why not?

I love the blazer, but also would like to see a size down for comparison.

The skort is really cool, but I'm not sure how or where you'd wear it. Love the vest.

Thanks for your advice everyone. I'm not saying I am headed in a new direction. I'm just trying these on & wondering what you think of them. I think I will buy some slouchy track pants for work & a white blazer but maybe not these ones. I'm not sure though if I'm being swayed by being on YLF & pinterest. Maybe I'm copying styles that aren't me or a for a fantasy life. I do like Emmanuel Alt's style though & think that direction is good for at least some of my life. Like when I want to look more grown up & sophisticated. She is the inspiration for the white blazer. I still prefer her in skinnies to slouchies though. I think if I get some for work that aren't too spendy I can try out the style.

I'm kinda loving all of it, except I think you could go down a size in the blouse in 1-2. I'm crushing on that mixed media coat, and in my next lifetime, can I please have the legs to wear that skort?

I think I spend too much time browsing Zara -- your first shot I thought "oh, that looks like a blouse from Zara!"

I love the shorts on you. I also really like where your style is heading.

I love 1-3. agree with the comment that you could size down on the blouse. I might add a big statement (indian-exotic) necklace to it for work so there is a little alterna-medicine vibe. With a necklace, I want to name the look as "modern guru chic". I love skort in 6-7, though I'm not sure it's work appropriate and you seemed to indicate that your casual style was more rocker-chic. I have to say I'm not wild about the coat in #4 unless you are simply looking for casual wear. I like the concept of #4 a lot, it just looks like the execution was a little sloppy. Count me as a no for the blazer-- you have a strong shoulder line without enhancement. It's awesome to see you like this-- I didn't recognize you from the earlier pictures and I should have-- I found your question really interesting and thought provoking.

I totally understand your hesitation, Elle. It's a bit weird when we venture outside of our normal style preferences, so you deserve a lot of credit for pushing your comfort zone with these outfits.

But, from a purely outside view, I've got to say you look pretty amazing in all these pictures. Youthful, sophisticated, edgy, and very Alt-ish. But, whether or not this look fits into your lifestyle, or how you like to see yourself, is something only you can answer.

So thinking about the skorts I wouldn't wear them to work or for casual wear. Wouldn't wear to a wedding. To a holiday party perhaps or dinner but I have plenty of clothes for dinner & I think any wedding appropriate attire would do for a holiday party. To a screening or art opening perhaps? Somewhere I'd like to look arty? Maybe I don't need them. I can throw a moto over a dress & achieve the edge I like.

I like the pants and white bazer a lot. The skort is cute, either one.

I feel like I should like the coat, but I don't. There's something about the construction, I'm not sure I like the way the leather sits on top of the wool.

I love these on you Elle - the white blazer is my favourite. I think you are asking the right questions - where would you wear them? There is no point in having them sit in your wardrobe.

Elle, you would give EA a run for her money in that white blazer... its stunning. The coat is also just amazing. I really like everything you have tried on here. My only concern with the skorts is the length, you have the legs for them but I would like them just a touch longer:) If you are looking for skorts have you checked out Rick Owens?

Thanks everyone. I don't think I'd wear the skorts due to the length. I'd wear denim shorts in that length because of the casual environment. Anywhere dressy enough for the skorts I'd feel self conscious or not me. I would prefer dressed up jeans or a dress. I have a friend my age who wears dressy shorts & minis all the time but her style is completely different to mine.

These are all Zara right? I like them all on you except the white blazer with shoulder pads, the shoulders look too exaggerated to me. As for the coat, I would hold off on buying it right now, it's just too late in the season and you might want something different come fall. Unless you are in the Southern Hemisphere of course!

I think these looks are all in keeping with your style, and I especially like the flowy cargo track pants on you.
