With this dress and oxfords - leggings or tights?

I'm going to a friends on Saturday after work for her sister's birthday and the invite said Dress up - no excuses!. Gladly lol. We are having a wine and cheese party and it's just the ladies. This is my newest knit blouson dress and I'm excited to debut it. Happens that it goes great with my heeled oxfords. My first instinct was dark grey leggings to pull in the grey of the shoe, but now I'm thinking black tights would be better because they cover my ankles. I also have black leggings. Which should I wear?

Black tights get my vote - though I think you could rock sheer patterned hose as well, if you felt like it...

Do you have time to get some grey tights? If not, the black. I do think you'll need ankle coverage. At least I would. Great dress!!

Suz, I could, but not only am I buying just one item a month this year, I have come to be okay with making do with what I have and choosing the best option among them
I have purple cabled tights as my only patterns, and that would look outright crazy lol.

Hmm, if I do black tights I could add a black topper. My Allsaints shearling? Snakeskin print blazer? Crop tux jacket? Trench? It will be in the teens by nightfall with a chance of snow showers.

I think #2, #3 & #4 could all work - would need to see them on for proportion though. #1 is great but less dressed up imo.

You are wearing a coat over whatever topper, right? If that is the case, I vote for #2, that jacket seems to go best with the oxfords. If not, I vote #1.

Zap, nope, just one layer over the dress. It will be in the teens and snowing, but we are driving and I only need the layer from car to store, car to house, etc.

I like the idea of leggings, but my instincts are saying tights. I'd have to see it on....for now, I'm on team tights.

Tights, not just for warmth but because it said to dress up!

Also, agree with Zap's recommendation of jacket #2 --- seems to have most in common with the (beautiful!) shoe's vibe.
