With all the Birthdays recently...

Ive been wondering how everyone deals with the 'milestone' ones...I didnt think that much of it when I hit 40, but now with the big 5-0 coming up later this month, its really throwing me for a loop!

Not a big deal for me when I hit the 40 I felt great, I'm in great shape, feel confortable on my own skin than ever and feel so much better with my style!
But... I'm still on the 40's..

My first "grown up" milestone is coming up in just over a year and I'm not sure. I've never felt better, but 30 is so scary! Turning 20 was fun.

When I hit 6-0 I made sure that I was away from home on a nice vacation. At 60 you know you've lived over half your life and may not have many productive years left. That's a big reality check.

Thanks, ladies....I think a big part of my being bummed out is that my health has really deteriorated and Im about 60 pounds heavier than when I turned 40....but back then I NEVER thought I'd get married and now we've been together for 9 years, married for 4!

When I hit 30 my boyfriend now husband took me to London and Paris. My first overseas trip and extra special because I was going to visit London with my father, but he passed away and the trip never happened. So going to London was always a goal for me.

biscuitsmom, when I turned 30, I remember a younger coworker asking me "aren't you depressed about turning 30?" She was truly puzzled when I told her emphatically, NO!

Well, I hit 40, and then 50 and did not self destruct or suddenly enter hagdom. I did get a red convertible when I turned 50. It was NOT middle-aged crazy syndrome, I just like to have fun! And that is what keeps me young.

I am 56 and have NO FEAR of turning 60. Aging IS physical, but 99% of it is mental! Stay positive and wonderful things will happen.

And don't forget the sunblock!

I just turned 28 a week ago and its been freaking me out that I'm so close to 30. I know that ones going to hit me hard. I don't think 40 will be a big deal, maybe 50 will, but 30 seems scary. It does make it easier that I'll have four kids over the age of three though.

When I turn 50 (next year) my hubby and I are going away on a shortish little trip to Vegas! LOL (Never been). We will be celebrating the fact that both of us has lived to the ripe old age of 50 (never saw that one coming when we were 20...) and that we have been together for 30 years and married for 25 of them! It's a big year for us and it all happens within a week of Christmas too! LOL

We'll travel in November (to be frugal and avoid travelling at Christmas time) and will celebrate our actual 25th anniversary with a party for family and friends at a nice restaurant here in town.

I'm kinda looking forward to it! I have really enjoyed my 40's so I'm hoping that I will embrace my 50's as well and have many happy and healthy years ahead!

30 kinda freaked me out, until it actually happened, then it seemed like "Huh? That's the big deal? I still feel the same..."

We went on our first cruise for my 50th two years ago. Got the biggest suite and had the most fab time evah! We're doing it again next year, on a bigger ship, for my hubby's Big Six-Oh. Believe me, it eases the pain considerably! LOL

I just have to jump in and say that this thread goes to show that I cannot judge people's ages at all. Sheesh. I've been mentally knocking 5-10 years off for ALL of you who have commented above based on the photos I've seen!

I remember my Aunt turning 30 and lying on the bed at my Nan's (her mum's), sobbing and sobbing... So growing up I always thought 30 must have been horrendous!

But, last year when I actually turned 30, it was really nothing that exciting... I just went out to dinner with friends and family and certainly didn't spend the day sobbing! I felt great, and life was good for me.

Turning 31 this year was even better - I feel like life is just getting better and better, so I've decided my 40th is going to be spectacular - and I have 9 years to plan it!!! I am one of those people who love aging!!!!

I hope you do find a fabulous way to spend your 50th!!!

Hmmm, 30 didn't make any impressions on me either way, but I wasn't living in peace and harmony back then. 35 I cried mostly because I was only with my BF out in FL and all my GF's were back home in CA and I felt alone in the 'milestone'. 40 we made a point to travel out of town to celebrate. I work in a bar and I know what my coworkers would do to me if I stuck around! So, we went to Seattle! Some people looked at me with raised brows kind of quizzically when we announced it but we had a great time. It was the week of Mother's Day and the weather was great! Funny thing, one reason my BF steered us that direction was the climate and ability to 'wear nice things' (vs say Cancun and total beachwear) along with being able to eat lots of fabulous food. My profile pic is actually the day after I turned 40 on a boat in Elliot Bay. (As an afternote, he scored a LOT of nice men's clothing that he could not find here in FL or on a recent trip to New Orleans. Mostly at Mario's and Nordstrom.) I felt just fine turning 40 and I'm sure had I stayed home they would have gotten me so liquored up I wouldn't know my name let alone my age!!

ETA: The BF hit the big five oh here a few months back and didn't want to do any celebration. We don't have a social network out here but I still think he'd have wanted to underplay it even back home. So I don't know how I'll deal with 50.

I am 53, but when I turned 40 I thought "I feel I should have accomplished more in my life by now") I don't know what more I thought I could have done?

I don't feel that way anymore, I am quite happy with my accomplishments, and always willing and open to learn and do more along the way.

Just turned 50 a few weeks ago. I don't love the number, especially, but I was really touched by how much my friends and family did to celebrate the occasion. It made me realize what a great life and many blessings I have.

I'm not the type to ponder milestones, but when 50 was getting close I decided I did not want to just be going out for dinner nor did I want any sort of party, so I went to Chicago with my OLDER sister for a few days and it was really nice.

My husband doesn't know how to make birthdays 'special', so this pleased him too

(It actually was nice enough that I wish I could be on my own personal retreat for every birthday now! I have missed the last few years, but maybe that will be my gift to myself for 53 and beyond . . . ?)

Thirty was a time of reckoning for me, but it wasn't about age, it was about where I wanted to be in my life. So I took the steps to be where I wanted to be, and my thirties were fantastic!

Forty was more of a "Good grief, how did this happen?" kind of moment. It still catches me by surprise sometimes when I realize I just turned 42. I'm still the same person I always was, just with a bit more perspective. And that perspective is so very valuable. I wouldn't want to be in my 20s again for anything:)

Good question! I celebrated my milestones with infants! I had my daughter six months before I turned 30, and my son six months before I turned 40. Thank God I came to my senses for my 50th and received jewelry for that milestone! I honestly think I was too sleep deprived for those first two milestones to even give them much thought.

My husband has already booked a hotel in NYC for my 56th coming up next March, btw. Can't wait!!!

well, I celebrated #30 in the hospital delivering a baby so I didn't have time to think about lamenting. 40 was fab... still too young to be bothered.
Now that I have hit the 'mid 40's' I'm starting to realize that I am not a spring chicken any longer... I have no idea how I'll be feeling as I near 50.

My 30th birthday is fast approaching (less than four months now). I'm terrified, but not by the number. I'm facing the prospect of some major life changes, and somehow the impending milestone is amping up the pressure to move things along. Trouble is I'm paralyzed and don't know what to do. By and large I don't care much about birthdays, but maybe that's just a function of where I've been at lately. Some of your celebratory tactics sound fabulous and worth copying!

I've got the one-year anniversary of my breakup coming up soon,for some reason that's looming much more on my mind than my upcoming birthday. "Celebrations" like this can be rough hey!!!
