So I ordered the Wit & Wisdom skinny jeans that look so fantastic on Amy and Sona. In my haste and excitement, I ordered just one pair - two sizes down, as per the reviews. They arrived today and they do fit...BUT... they are more like a jegging than a skinny jean due to the fabrication and fit. I'm not sure I like that.

Was anybody else kind of surprised at the fabrication? Does it make you wonder how they will last/wear? Am I just being a picky ol' fart???

I am definitely a skinny jean novice, but I'll give you my thoughts... I ordered these one size down and I wouldn't have wanted them to be any more snug. I didn't think they seemed like a jegging, but then I have never found any jeggings that fit me in the size I think I am, and I don't desire them enough to size up. LOL. I will say they are the skinniest jeans that I thought looked good on me and fit comfortably. I have tried a few pairs now that are too baggy, even though they purport to be skinny jeans, so I really wanted some with a snug fit. I left them at Nordstrom today to be hemmed so I can't take a pic, sorry!

Thanks Lori - I appreciate your thoughts. I suspect if I exchange them for one size up it might be better.

ETA: I just called Nordstrom to find out how an international customer returns an item to exchange for a different size. Lovely lady, said she'd email me the instructions ASAP and that for international orders you simply return the one item for a refund and then place a new order for the other item yada yada yada...I paid, with duties, taxes and shipping $129 for these jeans (listed on Nordstrom's site @ somewhere around $69 if I remember correctly). Do you know how much I get refunded once I have to pay return duties, taxes and shipping??? $46.72!!! Yep...that's all. So even if I had ordered the two different sizes, I would still be paying a substantial amount to send back the pair that didn't fit. So based on that, I think I will keep my Nordstrom purchases to items I am positive will fit (brands I already have tried and know my size in) or things like handbags where I don't need to worry.

Oh no! I wouldn't want to send that pair back until you had the larger one in hand to compare them to. It might be that they would stretch out and then you've already sent back the smaller size. Do you have to do an even exchange to avoid losing all that money?

Ouch! Shannon, I know that you can get the duties and tax back if you return them. I'm not sure how, but you can. How did they ship them to you?

Shannon, how much is postage? For pete's sake I could buy something, have it shipped to me for free, and then ship to you.

Either way Claire, I will be out the money because one of the pairs will have to go back, whether it be the smaller size or the larger size - I will be paying the duties, taxes and shipping on one pair either way. In addition I will also need to pay all those fees on the new order if I decide to go with the large size.

Sorry to hear about that! Are you sure you don't like the jegging feel of these? It sounds like they would be more comfortable than jeans. Can you try them out at home for a bit to see if you get used to them and if you can style them in some fun ways? They sound nice actually. Every girl needs a pair of really really skinny skinnies to tuck into boots. Maybe this is your pair?

Rita - maybe...I was just thinking that maybe these would/could be my incentive to take off that 10 pounds I keep complaining about!!! They are technically comfortable, but I don't FEEL comfortable in them, if that makes any sense.

I think you would have to call DHL and they would be able to help you with that. I know if something comes by Canada Post and you pay duties, there is a form on the back that you can dispute it, etc.

SHannon, you should also check the CBSA website. It should be CBSA.gc.ca. I think they have a FAQ in the second on duties and tariffs.

I got burned a few times on duty and taxes and now ship most packages to a service in Pembina. I live in the south end so it is less than an hour drive and if you have less than $100 to declare (NAFTA countries exempt from duty), they rarely charge you anything. It is well worth it. Then if you need to return it is only the shipping charge and you can mail it from here.

I'm sorry I steered you wrong. Perhaps I had to go down two sizes because of the big difference between my waist and hip. Also, the sales associate warned me that they stretch out a lot too, which I didn't want.

Have you worn stretch denim before? The lycra content makes the fabric more flexible than your good old 100% cotton denim. I actually think the fabric is nice. It doesn't feel really flimsy like the jeggings I've tried. That being said, it's not a heavyweight denim either.

Shannon, I have no wit or wisdom with these jeans, but am writing to say that jeggings and skinnies are quirky little animals and finding the right fit is unique. Do you think these will eventually stretch out? You don't want them baggy in all the wrong places. I just feel badly that you have to go through a lot of expense for your returns and exchanges. That's a difficult and cumbersome way to shop. I wish you did have BOTH sizes to play with which may have given you a better way to decide. Please let me know what happens with these jeans. Thinking of you.

I, the non-owner of any true skinnies or jeggings, vote for you to wear those jeans around the house with labels on for at least a day or two. Put them through their paces and see how much they stretch out. See if you really and truly think you will never ever adjust to the look. You said they technically fit, and you didn't mention that your husband ordering them out of the house because you looked obscene. . . .I would hate for you to make a hasty decision that you would later regret. The prospect of losing all that you paid in duty and taxes just kills me. Now if those jeans are cutting off your circulation and making your thighs numb, of course you have to return them. But I, for one, have way too many pairs of jeans that I should have bought in a smaller size because once the sizing was washed out and I wore them for a number of hours, the fit was not what I thought I had purchased.

You poor thing; my last Nordie skirt that didn't fit I gave to a friend instead of sending it back - it cost me less!

Dear Amy - don't you DARE apologize in any way! You did not steer me wrong in the least! Seriously honey...don't you think twice.

I'm going to follow DonnaF's advice and wear them around the house for the next day or two and see what I think. After I posted last night, I put them on again with a striped tee from Gap and the new Born Gemma flats that I also ordered (and absolutely LOVE - thanks for the tip on those lyn) and the outfit actually looked pretty cute. I think it's a matter of getting out of my own head and seeing myself in a different silhouette. Plus I really do need to lose a few pounds (menopause is a b*tch ladies!) so will consider this incentive.

You know what? I'm not really happy in skinny pants either. I feel more flirty and free in wide-legged trousers. I do think skinny pants look cute, so perhaps some of us need to go through a phase of acclimation, so to speak, i.e. getting used to the feel and look.

I just wanted it to suggest before you return, that you wear them around the house, tags on for a couple hours. This type of jean tends to expand a lot with wear!
