Winter shorts: yay or nay on me?

I've had these Gap black and white tweed wool shorts in my closet for a couple of years. They are really nicely made and I love the fit, but of course, shorts in winter are a bit of a conundrum. Ignoring the undone hair here, is this YLF-worthy? If not, what would you change? Or is this look just too young for me?

I have black wool shorts also, but wanted to try these first as the black ones are much easier for me to style, of course.

These are being worn on a day when I have no one to meet at work - just me and my files and phone calls!

All suggestions gratefully welcomed!

I'm a yay! But I would love to see what a dark gray tight would look like with them. Sort of a gradient shift in color from middle to top and bottom

Mo, I thought of that too... do you think it would cut me off in too many places? These shorts look grey but are really black and white. I thought about burgundy too.

I love them! I think the gray would go with lots of different colors of tights, too. The black is great, of course, but you could also match your tights to your other boots - burgundy, cobalt, orange... or wear your yellow cashmere sweater on top and then match with gray tights like Mo said.

I think they would also look nice with a tucked in silky button-down shirt, like a Nexx. And your MaryK-picked fuchsia top with burgundy tights would be fun to see with these.

Oh wow, definitely a yay! I was hesitant about this look for a while. Not because I don't like it, it looks great, but to me shorts and winter just didn't mix. But seeing everyone rock it is making me think I might need to try it. Anyway, I love the shorts, and they are definitely a yay on you!

I have a bit of a poison eye for shorts in winter but I will say that you pull off this look beautifully and with panache!

Thanks, ladies! i will play around with this some more but it looks like general approval. Janet, why on earth couldn't you wear this look with your amazing legs? If I can, you can! Look at Zap in hers - isn't she your size/height?

My husband could not get his head around them. Our conversation was as follows:

DH: What are you wearing?!
Me: Winter shorts.
DH: They're SHORTS.
Me: I know, but they are wool and warm.
DH: But they're shorts.
Me: How is that different than a skirt?
DH: They're shorts.

I am not a fan of winter shorts. But if anybody can pull them off, you can. Not looking bad at all.

I totally appreciate honest feedback since I don't know if I CAN get away with these. I feel totally happy, but that's not always an indicator of anything.

Aw, thanks, Una! I'd like to try some on in a store one day if I find a pair I like. In fact, I might like shorts on me better with tights and boots than I do bare-legged in summer! I guess it's the self-consciousness about my thighs. I'd have to keep it very simple, I think -- tone-on-tone in maybe charcoal and black.

A year or two ago I would have maybe been on the other side of this . . . but the texture makes all the difference to me. Wool, a tweedy mix, the tights, the sweater, the boots. Huge yay.
And to answer the choppy question from before, I think if the tights were just the right color, it would read more as ombre from afar rather than: shorts, line, tights, line, boots, line. Ya know?

I love them!!!

I am sort of a winter short fraidy cat (because, like, it's WINTER) but as far as looks go, I think they're awesome. And with the right puffer coat over top, why not?

Love 'em (but you probably could have guessed that)! I much prefer to wear thick shorts vs skirts in winter, and plan to add another pair or two of them to my wardrobe this season. I quite like the light gray visual, especially with all the colors you wear. Citron would look fab with these! Also silky tops. These look appropriately baggy and are especially fun with all of your tougher boots.

I love my basics, but you love a statement piece, which is exactly why you should own and wear (and rock!) winter shorts. 'Nuff said.
