Winter coats and WIW - YouLookFab Forum

I love this berry coloured coat in photo 1, and really enjoy wearing it with my berry OTK boots and my Kooples scarf. This is a good outfit for the commute, comfortable warm and the coat, boiled wool, takes being folded up on the train well. I have a pink Furla bag to finish off the outfit.

Photo 2 is a thrift store Zara coat, which is good, but not so warm, so I layer up, with ponte jacket, Uniqlo padded jacket that folds up super small, with OTK navy boots with black back. Again, good for the commute. And a scarf with golds blacks and gold, another favourite scarf.

Photos 4 and 5 is a Boden top, from the sale, which I like the v-neck and puff to the sleeves, with a Hobbs jacket. The skirt is a high low hem, and I think is good for cold urban weather.

The thing is I really like 1 and next Winter, this is what I want to aim for but in an Olive / kharki green. So a green coat, boots and bag - not all the same colour, but tonally working. If I trusted myself, to not change my mind, I would seek out bargains in the sale (accepting that I might need to let go of the aspiration to not shop until 27 March). My berry combination in 1 took 2 years to curate!

Your berry coat looks nearly black on my screen, but the description sounds great. And you look so happy in all photos. The idea of a coat, bag and boots in shades of green sounds fab, and I bet the green shades will look gorgeous with your beautiful personal colour palette.

Both coats are beautiful, Jane, and I love that you create tiny capsules with each coat. The scarf with the second coat is amazing too, sooo good with the grey plaid!! Brilliant that they work so well for your commute. (And I too have discovered the versatility of those Uniqlo padded jackets. They really do provide a good deal of extra warmth, don't they. And they pack away so small. Very handy).

The Boden V-neck top is a great find! Wonderful with that gorgeous skirt and your jacket.

I'm getting all excited about the idea of a green coat capsule, Jane (partly because I would looooove a pair of green tall boots myself;-) AND because I know it's going to be stunning on you. Question: Why do you think you will change your mind, Jane? Just asking because it seems that you didn't change your mind about the berry coat, and you've clearly been thinking about the green for a while too? (Not trying to be an enabler, but looking around for a great green Winter coat is a good idea for sure with all the sales going on at the moment

Boosted by your votes of confidence, thank you so much, I looked again at a Massimo Dutti green coat in the sales. My size had gone, but even in my size, I think it would have been a compromise.

Thank you Inge. The scarf was a gift from an architect he had designed himself, and the colours are just so good for me. The fabric is beautiful. Good point too, on changing my mind. I won't and can be confident that any purchase that I make is good if I make good decisions, heart and head in balance!

I love the berry ensemble on you and agree that the green tones will be gorgeous on you. I say yes to seeing if there is a green coat or boots that meet your needs now, especially if they are on sale. You can be fussy and wait for the perfect items because you have some great coats already.

I understand your reluctance about buying them now, because I can do this too, be reluctant to buy items once it gets to the end of the season. However, because summer is my longest season and I have almost worn out my favourite sandals (two pairs that have been the most comfortable workhorses over at least 2 years), I bought two new pairs on sale recently. It feels good to know that I have the next generation to replace those favourites.
