Wine tasting, not fancy, in local liquor store

There is a wine tasting a few times a year at the ABC store 3/4 mile down the street from me tonight. They are a chain that sells liquor, beer, wine. Not fancy. It happens in the aisles of the store. And I will be walking to it. It's 88 now and might be 84 by the time I leave.
What to wear? I was thinking Suz's Leith pants with a drapey white tee but that might be too hot and wearing white might be tempting fate with red wine around.
Maybe my purple shorts with black button front faux tucked?
I'd almost like to wear a dress, but call me silly, walking home with a buzz at night wearing a skirt, even in a decent neighborhood, just doesn't feel comfortable to me. I know that's probably illogical, but . . .
Any ideas?

EDIT: If I can get past my wearing a dress to walk home thing, what about this red dress that the BF deems 'too much' for a day dress? I thought the poly blend lent it a casual vibe but I think he sees the red as a night time color. Too much? Is he right? Is this more than a simple 'day dress'? I may be conspicuous among the t shirt crowd, so if it errs on the OTT side let me know, I'd rather play it safe than be uncomfortable.

Okay, I think I am going to fall back on what others often do that I never do - the LBD. Suz's is a great lighter material and airy skirt for my walk and it has pockets!

Are you going home alone? If you are, I'd wear something more low-key than a pretty dress/skirt, but I'm paranoid probably. What time of night would you be leaving the store at? That would influence my decision too... not trying to be a wet blanket, and know you'd look great, just want you to be safe. Too many guys in my area take liquor samplings of any kind as an excuse to run wild and would take a woman alone as 'easy prey' especially if she looked very feminine

I hear you, BM, and that's exactly what my point was. I might be walking alone (8 or 8:30) because the BF likely won't be off work by then to pick me up.
I just went out to check the mail and it is HOT, so no black dress either. Sigh. I wish my white colorblock blouse was here. I'd wear it for something like this in a heartbeat!
Guess I'll shower and just see what I come up with on the fly . . .

I think that's a safer bet, and please stick to as many well-lighted areas as you can. Do you have a spare set of keys with a car alarm you can carry with you, or mace, or something?

BM, it's really quite a safe neighborhood overall. I mean, right up the block is where the millionaires that own the car dealerships my BF works for live. But I do realize there is such a thing as crime of opportunity. The only sketchy part is getting from the little strip mall to the neighborhood street itself. But I'll be fine. I can go sit in a local sports pub for half an hour and wait for BF if I feel funny at all. No worries. Actually, last year one of the ladies who orders wine there offered to drive me home.
And the joke's on me, it's still 88 or 90 depending which weather forecast you believe. At 5:30 at night. I blame TS Karen out there in the Gulf. Ugh. I'll need some cool white wine when I get there to quench me!
Looks like my 'bedazzled' black seamed tee and purple shorts for the win. Simple, but practical.

and for fun, a runner up that was too hot, too white, too long and too girly for the occasion lol. But I really wanted to wear red accessories. ah well

Ah, I'm SO glad to hear it's a place you feel comfortable with, and can duck in to a place if something feels 'off' to you That means a lot. Please don't hesitate if you get a bad feeling, act right away. I just lived in a few rough parts of the city for most of my life, so my instinct is to a keep a very low profile, especially if I'm alone. I live in the boonies (suburbs) now, but am far less trusting than DH or most of my neighbors.... hope you have a fun time and try some gooood stuff!
PS, very pretty, but hope you get the chance to wear the white one sometime, love it!

I think the casual feel of the style offsets the nightime sexiness of the red color. And while you may be conspicuous among the jeans and t-shirts, I don't think that's a bad thing. Maybe it will inspire some of the other tasters to step up their style game.

As for the walk back home, I don't think wearing a bright colored dress would make you any less safe than wearing jeans and a t-shirt. Bad people are going to be bad, no matter what you are wearing. Just wear shoes that you feel comfortable walking in, and project an air of confidence. And keep your cell phone charged up and in easy reach, and maybe carry your keys in your hand so you can poke any potential attackers in the eye with a fist full of pointy metal objects.

But don't forget to have fun!

Thanks! Had fun, home safe, no worries. Only shout from a car was a middle aged lady wondering if I was going to the sports pub next door. I said I could but wasn't planning to lol.
BF came home 10 minutes later with tacos. yay!

I like a skirt over shorts. The white is so elegant, the red kicky. Anyways, aren't you in Florida? I should think bare legs are ok all the time and not particularly provocative.

Glad you are home safe. The red dress looks quite short on the model. It would probably be too warm, but could you wear the dress over something like Capri length leggings? Maybe that would make it look more like a silky top rather than over the top for BF
