WIMW to a wedding shower - updated

I'm headed to a wedding shower tomorrow, and I'm considering copying a look from Pinterest. It's going to be in the low 60s F, so not very warm....hence the cardi and boots. I could also swap out the tights and tall boots for nude hose and short taupe booties.

What do you think? Do the tall boots work? What about black tights in April?

Well, we have to be governed by the weather, don't we. So whatever works, I say. But you could also do nude hose for a bit of lightness. Your dress is overall darker than the inspiration so it might be good to bring a bit of light to the look overall.

Love your look better - I think the dark tights are a little too bottom heavy, but that this would be fab with nude hose and either the knee high boots or shorter boots.

So funny--the other gals got exactly what I was thinking. I think the nude tights and taupe booties will brighten this up. Otherwise, I would try to add something brighter into the mix. Since you have a black and white dress, you could bring the white up by adding in a white necklace if you have one.

Suz, Deborah, Sarah, and K can shop...thanks so much for the advice. I went with nude microfishnets (the only nude hose I have right now) and the tall boots. K, I added a white-ish necklace....good idea!

I've updated this post with a photo of my final outfit. This was fun! Going forward, I'm really going to try to mix things up and be more creative with my closet. I have so many great pieces, but I tend to wear them in the same old ways all the time.

Styles really do come back around again - I wore almost that exact dress in your pinterest photo to my bridal shower - in 1989 (yes, I was a child bride, he he).
I really like your version but I do agree with the others - nude hose to lighten up the darker dress.

I see I missed the voting but I love your final outfit! I think nude hose was the right choice here. Although I'm not opposed to black tights for spring, I think your dress, which is more black than white, works better with a lighter leg.

Thanks for weighing in, everyone. I felt pretty on target in this outfit, as almost everyone at the shower (young women and older alike) was wearing some variation on the 'little cardigan over dress' look. The day ended up a little warmer than expected, so my tall boots felt a little awkward....still, it was a good experiment.

All in all this was a good for me to try. I tend to shy away from experimenting with new looks...sometimes out of fear of making a mistake.....so I'm proud of myself for trying something new--whether it worked or not.

Angie, it was an afternoon shower held in someone's home. Not casual, I'd say, since everyone was wearing dresses or very nice trousers. Do you consider my outfit casual? Hm.
