WIM(ight)W - total departure for me

I am not normally a leggings person, but I think I like this. Found this tunic and loved the soft grey, the subtle embroidery, and boho vibe. Nice for summer as an alternative to all the sleeveless styles I normally wear. Believe it or not, the tie waist is actually sitting at my natural waist (yeah, I'm that short-waisted), although I think it is riding up just a little bit in the pics.

I knew black leggings would be too stark, so I'm trying these grey ones -- looking at the pics, I think I could pull them down a little more below my knee.

I wanted to try a very tonal, monochromatic look with the metallic wedges, watch and leather bracelet.

The tags are still on this tunic if y'all think this is completely wrong for me! What do you think?

The tunic colour is divine next to your beautiful complexion. I was hesitant about the the silhouette at first - but I'm going with a yay. It looks like it has a soft drape to it...if it was stiff, then I'd pass on it.

I can see why you are attracted to the color and flowy feeling but I'm on the fence on this one.

I think I'm going to vote nay on this one. I am not liking that string thingie in front. What's the name for that? A self belt? It looks a little like maternity wear to me.
I vote yay on you getting a tunic though. You legs look a mile long.

You know, I thought I would hate it from the thumbnails, but I don't. I don't 100% love it like I do your usual outfits, though. The tunic makes you look just a bit bigger than I know you are through the middle. Perhaps I am also jarred by the all-around softness of the outfit, since I'm used to that rocker edge of yours?

I"m torn. I kindof love it but can see Zap and Rae's points. A belt might look good, but then it defeats the easy cool look of it.

I agree with Zap. I don't like the waist on this tunic. I'm not a fan of the drawstring look on anything in general, but I like the overall idea of tunic + cropped leggings for you. (Your legs look amazing!) I think I'd prefer an A-line or straight shaped tunic, and then you can belt it if you want to show a waist.

I've been thinking about it and I think what's bothering me is the color, not the waistband tie. I think if it was a darker/brighter color or even pattern, I'd like it more.

This is all very good feedback. I think this is one of those items that looks better in person than in pictures, but I totally get the reservations that are being expressed. I didn't wear this out today (defaulted to BF shorts and a tee for an afternoon of hanging and moving artwork), but when I get home I'll look and see if this might work with the drawstring removed.

Jem, interesting point. I tried on a very cute tunic from Anthro in a blue and white ikat print that I really wanted to like. But it seemed just a bit too voluminous on me, and when I took it back, there were no size smalls to try, so I just gave up. You know I'm almost always more fond of pattern than solid colors on me, maybe I should keep an eye out for another, patterned tunic.

I think you look better in more saturated colors. That's also why it probably looks better in person, because the color might look more washed out in the picture? Anyway, it doesn't bad, just not as amazing as some other things.

I really like this look on you and to be honest, I don;t think that black leggings would be too stark. Grey ones look fine too but you can easily use both. Incidentally, I second others opinion that color is a bit blah and I think you would look better in richer/brighter shades

I think the drawstring waist plus pseudo-henley buttons at the top make it super casual.

I wonder if I should try again in a size small. Color and pattern are more *me.* This one has a self-tie but it's easily removable and can be replaced with a belt.

I think the printed one from Anthro looks pretty amazing...I'd try it.

I vote yay to the look but nay to this specific outfit. I'd prefer a tunic without a string in the front and more pattern or bolder color than this one. You can certainly sport this look, your legs look very long here!

I don't know many people who can pull off that length of legging, and still looked beautifully long-limbed. It would truncate my legs!! You do it brilliantly!!! Though I agree with Victoria that black leggings wouldn't have looked too stark.

Photographs can be so deceiving, that it's hard to say a definite 'Nay' to this paIring. Certainly an A-line top with the leggings is a good idea. I could imagine these ones with a broad white-and-cobalt blue striped top - a long flared one, obviously, maybe with a broad belt to show off your lovely figure, or perhaps one in zinging emerald green and cobalt? You have a great shape and super colouring, and can take bright colours. (But then, perhaps I'm biased 'cos I'm wearing a cobalt blue dress today, with matching repettos and a long floaty scarf in emerald green. Bit of Kari inspiration wafting across the Atlantic!)

The shape of the tunic works and looks comfy, too. I prefer the Ikat and agree with Jem that it may be the color that gives pause.

I like this style direction for you. But between the two tunics, the ikat seems more "you."

Actually the only thing that bothered me about the grey tunic was that it seemed to have too much fabric in the middle, making your mid-section look bigger. However the grey tunic is very flattering to the neck and bustline as well as the leg line. Maybe you can't have it all.

Well, this gave me good confirmation that I should not spend my life fearing/avoiding the tunic and leggings look. I see so many cute "dresses" that are only tunic length on me that this opens up some possibilities I'd otherwise ignore.

This one may not be ideal for me, but oops -- I just realized the return period has passed. It wasn't expensive, so no biggie. I'll wear it on ultracasual days, and I'm going to see if drawstring removal might work. It would also make a fine pool cover-up!
