I’ve spent the last 10 days foraging the after-Christmas sales. Mostly, I was looking for blouses and in shop after shop, all they had was the sparkly holiday stuff and miles of chiffon. Who ever thought of making blouses with polyester chiffon ?

I don’t want anything made of polyester chiffon because there is no weather in which the darn thing is comfortable. In the cold (winter or air conditioning), it feels like frozen metal sheet on your skin and when it’s hot, this fabric is suffocating and even more so when you have to layer it over a camisole because you don’t want to look like a tart ! Finally, under such flimsy fabric, you can hardly wear a “tank top” style camisole, it has to be something delicate, with tiny straps and then hello to competing multiple straps showing. BTW, have you ever seen a camisole with the straps positioned the same way as bra straps !

Considering the huge assortment of chiffon in the sales, I presume that I’m not the only one who doesn't like it.

And why are we drowned in it ? Well, anybody who has been in Asia and visited a few fabric shops will tell you that you can buy polyester chiffon for 50 cents a yard – and we’re talking retail price. We are told that it’s a design trend, when in fact it’s just CHEAP fabric for more profits.

And what did I buy in the x-mas sales ? 2 sets of pyjamas and a pair of gloves.
