Will these shoes date quickly?

I have been eyeing these shoes for a while. I have been looking for a good walkable heel for work.

I tried them on in-store the other day and found them extremely comfortable. The problem is that they are also extremely pricey, and so I need to be sure I will be able to wear them for at least a few years without them looking dated. I am a little concerned because it seems like these might be a little trendy, given the chunky heel, and so I'm not sure whether it would be smart to drop so much dough on them.

I would love to know your thoughts. I know that the brand itself is very well respected and that the shoes will hold up. My concern is only about the style's longevity.

These are extremely classic shoes. They won’t date, but I do think they could be dowdy if the rest of the outfit is too conservative... yes, I said it!

My workplace is quite casual, so I would be pairing them with a more casual outfit, probably jeans and a blouse or t-shirt. I think the juxtaposition will look good. But your comment is good food for thought and something I hadn't considered, so thank you!

Really sorry Gigi but to me they look kind of dated already?- by which I mean sort of old-fashioned looking? So I wouldn’t think they would date more necessarily... I guess they don’t appeal to me personally may be what’s happening here. I do like the cap toe. Wow they are expensive!

Thanks, Jenni NZ. I think you are seeing some of what rachy is seeing, that there is a very classic aesthetic here in some ways. I would consider them too boring if they didn't have the snakeskin. I think that's what makes them stand out to me.

Yeah, they are super expensive. But AGL is known for being super comfortable. For some people, it's worth the money. But a lot of money it is!

Sorry Gigi, I agree with Jenni, they look a little old-style to me. I would prefer a classic, comfortable shoe but "edgier".

I, too, see this as a very classic style. I think you can wear them for a couple of years and then some.

I think these shoes are fun and fab. The snakeskin cap toe adds interest and the style is totally on trend yet classic. Given the move toward sneakers, flats, and comfortable shoes I don't think the block heel style is going anywhere. I see them looking great with boyfriend jeans, tshirt, and a blazer or slim trousers and a pretty blouse. I see shoes as an investment piece and don't mind spending a lot of money on quality, classic shoes. I have some shoes that are almost twenty years old, still in excellent condition, and classic enough they still get worn.

I think they read very classic and should suit your needs for years if they work with your outfits. They’re not trendy in shape, which is what you want in a classic that you want to wear for a long time. The snake print gives them a little extra current interest, but is not enough to make them look “so 2019” in a year or so.

Agreeing that they are very classic. My eye has adjusted so much to the current trends, however, that I’m starting to view all low-vamped, heeled, pump-style footwear as being a bit dated, though. That said, I do have one pair of AGL ballet flats, and it is a fabulous brand, and I have no plans to give them away, despite the classic style. So, if you can use them, I do think they’ll be a worthwhile investment.

They’re classic with a twist, and the overhead pic on the link is a MUCH better visual! I’ve worn and re-soled AGLs over and over, so if these fit your need, they will be worth the “investment.”

I love them, but I really like classic block heel pumps as they are some of my most comfortable work shoes. I think mine are more old fashioned and dowdy than yours - but it really depends upon what you put them with. I wear mine with my plaid dress, so I feel fab in them.

The classic block heel pump is always beautiful and appropriate. It's the elastic edge around the vamp that makes them look a little on the dowdy side to me. Sorry - just being honest here.

I think it’s a classic shoe and I second the quality and comfort of AGL. I don’t know if you’ve seen the Everlane Day Heel but it also has a block heel and elastic around the edge. Might be worth considering?

They won't date, and if you juxtapose them with more current looking pieces, they'll serve you really well.

Good point about the Everlane Day Heel - has that same elastic edge but doesn't look quite as intentionally , um, staid/modest? I don't know what word I want here...

i think it's all in the styling...wear then with black trousers and a blazer, yes they'll look a little stale...wear them with baggy jeans or raw edge crops and i think they will look current..

missvee, I did see the Everlane Day Heel. I ordered it and was between sizes. The shoe was also a little long looking on my foot and therefore a little unflattering. The shape of the AGLs is better (I am very short and am small boned).

Molly Mac and kkards, I do plan to wear the shoes as you have stated, with some current jeans (with raw hems or cropped). I think this will offset the conservativeness of the shoe.

i think it's the combo of the round toe, cap toe and block heel that feels very classic...which can be current or dowdy depending on how you wear it.

ladylike is in for spring so you can get a head start with this shoe. I would pair with a leather skirt and tweed jacket. or pencil skirt and leather jacket (if your office rolls that way).

with a straight skirt suit or dress, at my age, i would feel dowdy. like i owned it in the last two decades and i've always worn them this way. of course, i have the following in my shopping list, so what do i know???

I also agree with Suz - classic. They seem to be very well made. I would say you could enjoy them for a few years. I personally like this style and it current is in the styling.

In many ways, these pumps are very classic, but I must admit that I find the elastic edge a bit dated. Well, "retro" is a more positive word. So if you like a touch of retro, they will be fine. I like the block heel and the cap toe very much and consider these features to be pretty timeless.

Gigi, I LOVE my AGL shoes. I have about 10 pairs, a couple with elastic like these. Perhaps it’s just my foot, but the elastic isn’t visible when the shoe is on. I’m hard on my shoes, and AGLs wear like a dream. One pair got soaked in a thunderstorm and they came out looking beautiful. Although the style you’re looking at is classic, IMO the snake detail might date the shoe in a couple of years. I’d be tempted to go for a patent or more classic contrast, but that’s just me. Also I find that Nordstrom puts many of their AGLs on sale eventually, though you might have to wait a few months for that to happen so risk missing out if you’re a popular size.
