Will sandals like this EVER make a comeback?

I'm getting pretty sick of seeing gladiators with a million straps, 7" platforms, and super casual boho styles. Whatever happened to sandals with clean lines and simple shapes? Like so:

I like sandals that have fewer, broader straps and heels that are something other than cork or rope. I would really love some simple, clean, pretty sandals with a low heel that are still cute and not matronly. The Nine West ones are so close but reviews say they run very narrow, and that heel might still be a little tall given the lack of padding in the footbed. Any sympathy is appreciated...

I mean, I think they are already coming back. To my eye, it's part of the 90s/minimalist revival. For what it's worth, the Campers look both more comfortable and more fresh. (More expensive, too, but isn't that always how it is.)

I would wear something like those Campers, although I'd view the upper strap as a bit leg-shortening. I like a lot of Born's simpler wedge styles. I feel a lot of latitude in sandal styles, although I may be kidding myself!

I've tried on both of these styles. The Nine West looks so pretty on, but the straps are hard and my feet were not happy. The Campers were better but not as pretty.

I think you should keep on looking at Miz Mooz to get the look you're after.

I am so with you on the strappy sandal thing - but the style sells so buyers keep on putting them into stores. I don't think I'm going to wear sandals this Summer. If I do, I'm wearing my one and only pair from Macys last year - the $40 ones.

The Campers are too high (and too expensive). I actually like high contrast, leg shortening sandals. The kind of sandals I really hate are "naked sandals" that make you look like you're not wearing any shoes: two thin nude straps, high stiletto heel. I know this is not the majority opinion, but I think I really just don't like sandals in general, so I tend to be drawn to sandals that are basically shoes. I just wear them because it's unbearable to wear anything else when it gets hot.

Angie, I wish I had the option to not wear sandals. You are very lucky. I am not going to buy any more flat sandals, but I have no heeled options so I'd like to fill that gap and be done with it. Since I don't like sandals much to begin with, I don't want to spend a lot on them (which is good I guess, because I can't spend a lot).

I'm in the minority here. I love sandals. Good thing considering where I live.
Those 9 West sandals are beautiful too bad they are not comfortable.

We might be seeing more shoes with thicker straps given the 70s revival. I really don't wear sandals that often in the summer. I am perfectly happy with my peeptoe flats.

my uneducated laymans guess is that we see the strappy boho type sandals highlighted in the catalogs and web pages because they have more visual appeal and a younger, more sexy vibe to them. But, it appears that there will be a fairly good selection of what you are looking for.
I really like these.. and if they were half the price I'd put them in my shopping cart...

Those are pretty fussy, Julie. And the ankle strap looks awkward and painful.

I like those too, Kim, but they're way out of my price range as well.

I'm trying out the Campers I linked to originally, since they are on sale on Zappos...but I have a feeling they will be returned.

May I wholeheartedly agree!! Anything flat or low heeled is all strappy and delicate, and usually have fussy buckles, which is one of the reasons I haven't replaced my current pair - I can't find anything I like (not that I love these LOL).

BUT, I noticed on my shopping expedition yesterday, that there were a few similar looks to those you linked to coming in for our A/W - not sure what that means for you guys though - but they had regular cone or stacked heels - I'd prefer a good wedge.

Can't wait for Angie's post tomorrow!!

Those look a little like the All Black sandals I posted a while back that some liked but others thought too clunky. I much prefer this style to the ones with lots of skinny straps, although I did like the ones Mo got.

Personally? I think the Camper wedges look...frumpy.

I'm no fan of the typical sky-high glamazon sandal however! It sure doesn't have to be either/or.

I have been particularly annoyed with the shoe biz over the last few years, when we were all supposed to be wearing either 6" stripper heels or pancake flat flats.

I didn't buy into either extreme, but continued to wear wedges and heels between 1" and maybe 3.5" at the highest. But...I've always been a style rebel. ;P

I agree, I'm not a fan of sandals either. My feet sweat and then in sandals they just slosh around and get blisters. At least with a sock, I can absorb the sweat, and have a buffer in the shoe. It is true, there are far too many strappy sandals out there. I wish there were more slip your feet in and go styles, I am tired of having to crouch everytime I put a pair on to close the buckles/straps/whatever is on them.

I almost go straight from boots to sandals when the seasons change! Maybe it's because I don't work in an office type environment and wear more casual clothes, but my pumps and flats get way less wear than my winter boots and summer sandals.

I have never gotten into the bold gladiator style, and I'm mystified by the entire open-toe boot phenomenon. I usually like my shoes to nod toward the trends without going overboard.

That said, when I walked through Nordstom last week, I can't say I saw much in the shoe department that rocked my world. One cute pair of flats, that was about it. Maybe they've yet to bring out much in the way of sandals.

Here here, Maya!! I hate super-strappy sandals with the fire of a thousand suns, and I want them all to just go away forever!
I have amassed a collection of simple, easy-to-wear sandals that suit me well, with a bronze and a pewter pair being my current favourites. Like Maya, I have to wear them if I want to be able to breathe in the summer months, but they're hardly my favourite footwear option.
Angie, I plan to add a leg-lengthening pair to my wardrobe this summer, so I look forward to your post. Out of curiosity, why are you ditching sandals for the summer? What about your brulees?
