Unfrumped- Interesting consideration on the point about forcing colors. For a long time I tried to force white tops/jackets/shirts because that's what one does in Summer. It's only this year that I've come to the realization that I can best approximate the feel of white by wearing silvery, blue toned grey and/or cream if I want a solid. Prints don't present the same challenge. Angie told me at a recent gathering that grey is my white, and so, since I both enjoy the color and the lightening effect it has (vs all the black I tend to wear), I've embraced it when I can find it. Case in point, my dove grey bucket bag and TopShop long vest. I agree that I'll have to buckle down and do some serious wardrobe testing.
Shevia- Ha, ha! I embrace the 'far out' in you! I often feel I don't take many risks into farther out, so maybe this is what appeals to me about these pieces.
Sharan- That is the $1M question, where to wear. Well, certainly to a YLF meetup! I would wear it to work, since most of my meetings are teleconferences. Vacation is a good idea, if I were headed to a warm location, as would an evening concert or similar non-opera event (see Anna, I DO know that much). Will think on it some more, but I agree with you, I'm wearing WAY more dresses than ever now that we have proper heat.
Sveta- You nailed my major concern on the top (if major is the right word, it's not like we're discussing world peace). I usually steer away from high necklines for that very reason...I AM top heavy, there's no 2 ways around it. My hope had been since the top is low contrast that I'd eek into JFE territory.
Vildy- Thank you for that compliment. I try to work on the posture thing because it does make a difference when you're a) short, b) carrying extra weight, and c) aging.
Deborah- You're so right, it really is about surrendering the need to be conventionally appealing. At my age, I am getting better about it as evidenced by my attempt here. I will take your great advice and mix up the pieces more to see what happens.
Missvee- This is a small, if you can believe it. The mannequin had more volume to body going on than I do, so it must be intentional. I suppose I could order an XS and try it. I haven't been an XS since a verrrrry long time, pretty exciting!
Anna- Thank you! That means a lot coming from you! And I AM enjoying the jeans so much.
Oh Una- You're never a spanner. I see what you mean about the top now that you mention it. I know, I'll just scissor a v-neck in it...very RATE There, that's better...
Wonder if I can entice Angie to weigh in on the matter?
