WIdidn'tW - please help!

I tried this outfit this morning - it didn't work, and so I didn't wear it. Seems like the jacket color (black) is too heavy and too sharply shaped for the rest of the outfit - but I was trying to tie in the black band from the shoes. Would you please give me suggestions on what kind of outfit to wear with these shoes? I love them - I just don't know how to style them. Thank you!

I think it's great! But if the black jacket feels too heavy, why not go with no jacket at all? It is summer in LA

I think these shoes are streamlined and you could pull from the futuristic tread idea to style them. What if you kept the top half of the outfit but switched out the skirt for something more streamlined?

Actually, I like it! The blue and black on top echo the shoes, and the black band and blue stripe of the skirt ties that in. I guess it depends on whether you'd like to streamline the look, like Jenava suggests. That would be a different, but also cool, outfit!

P.S. Maybe scrunch/roll up the sleeves?

Seems like the black band on the skirt is enough to tie in with the shoes. What about a jacket to tie in with the skirt?

I like it as-is, too.

But if you want to wear a different jacket - how about denim? Or even a denim vest? The black band of the skirt ties in well with the black of the shoes, so you don't necessarily need a black topper.

Rae voiced my thoughts exactly. Demin, the great equalizer. A RATE wash would be cool. Love the skirt and belt with those shoes. Perfect!

I think these shoes would look great with a more streamlined bottom - a pencil skirt, tailored cropped pant or dressy Bermuda shorts, maybe.

What's not to like? The color blocking in the top half really bookends your shoes, but the beautifully patterned skirt keeps it from being TOO "matchy" and yet coordinates with the blue.

If I were styling you, I'd remove the necklace and add a white layering top.

Oh thank you everyone for your suggestions. I'm definitely going to try a more streamlined "bottom" with this - and Angie, if you have time, could you let me know if you're thinking that the white layer top would be in place of the black jacket? or underneath the black jacket? Or . . . are you talking about like a white button down? Or . . . ? (Sorry, I'm a slow learner!)

I would assume angie meant a white T under the black jacket to tie in better the skirt with the top half since the skirt has plenty of white?

I actually really like this outfit as is, but if you want to ditch the black and still have your arms covered, how about something like a leather jacket in a blushy light pink? I'd link to the one Angie picked up at NAS, but I can't seem to find it online tonight.

Those *are* great shoes!

To me there is visual confusion around the top half: the x created by the jacket, the belt, the blue top, plus the jacket and the necklace. Maybe play with removing some of these items? The necklace, belt and x of the jacket (or x situation could just be the picture) feel like they compete for attention.

I love the way the skirt and shoes work together.

I could see these shoes paired with white shorts/skirts/pants so you've got three colors going in a color blocked theme. For example, white top, white bottom and a black jacket with these shoes. Shoes become the star!

I would keep the top simple since the skirt and shoes have plenty of interest but I like it as is.

I'd try white top with the black jacket or denim topper. Love the shoes. Maybe a necklace with black instead of the jacket? Would a black tee blend with the belt of the skirt and look too top heavy?

Ah, Marley. I meant a white jersey layering top like you are wearing in blue. Or a cute little white blouse (not a shirt). Either on it's own, with the black jacket, or with a denim jacket.

Yes, those shoes are the star attraction - fab! To keep it that way, my inclination would be to a plain black dress, or mini print with black and white. Let the shoes shine.

My outfit for an anniversary/retirement bbq this weekend was a black knit short dress, silver cuff bracelet, and hot pink, patent leather, lizard texture, thong gladiator sandals. The shoes were quite enough flash for me.

What's not to love about this outfit? I can also see why you love those cute shoes! Before Angie posted with her excellent ideas, I was going to echo the others about scrunching the black jacket, going without or playing with black denim. When I read Angie's post, I first thought she meant layering white under the aqua top. I do like the aqua/turquoise and as the others mentioned, the black waistband does give you what you need with the adorable shoes. Beautiful, Marley!
