Hello! It’s been a looong time since I posted, but I have been around, lurking, reading posts, and commenting!
So…I broke my ankle two weeks ago, had surgery on it one week ago, and have to wear clothing that fits over this gigantic cast. Wide leg pants to the rescue! When the cast comes off I’ll be in a big boot, so I’ll be wearing wide leg pants for a while. And I never thought I’d like the way they looked on me (turns out I do!), so I don’t really have many.

I saw this cute, kind of different pair on Athleta’s website and was wondering if anyone has seen these in person, or purchased them? They look like wrap pants but they are pull on. A few of the reviewers said they blow open a bit, the question is how much - not looking to give anyone a peek-a-boo show. But they are super cute…

I like the second pair, but I’m concerned that print wide leg pants might look like pajama bottoms?

If you have any wide leg pants recommendations for me, I’d appreciate those too!

These were on Ivko’s ig recently and I’m obsessed. Or maybe it’s just a case of the wantsies. But they are more than I want to spend. If your second pair was longer, there’d be real danger.

Stagiaire Flash, I do need to be careful about length - I do NOT need to trip and fall! I thought about just wearing skirts and dresses, but the ones I have are more structured than flowy, and I’d want long and flowy for comfort. Hmmm… maybe I should go back and take a second look at some of those Amazon dresses that were posted earlier…

lyn67, yep, the Frakenboot again! At least when I fell I didn’t do any damage to the foot surgery from earlier. I think the Frankenboot is destined to be a permanent fixture in my wardrobe

Oh no, Karie! I’m sorry about your injury. What a bummer! It is nice to see you here though.

I have seen those on Athleta’s website but not in store. For some reason our local store never seems to carry the styles that most interest me, LOL. I did recently place an online order with them though — they’re pretty good to do business with, I’ve found.

Angie posted some good possibilities. From my rather limited browsing of local stores, there seems to be a fairly good selection of summery wide leg pull-on pants styles at retail right now, and I think they should be easy to hem if you want a cropped or culotte length. I even saw some at Marshall’s and TJMaxx if you don’t want to invest much $$ in them.

Good point about the long pants legs. I suppose that limits how glowing the dresses/skirts can be as well. But you can always baste the pants leg(s) to a temp shorter length.

Stagiaire Flash, I am on the tall side so hopefully lengths will be OK, I hadn’t thought to baste the hems but that’s an excellent idea - regular hemming would be too tedious to remove later and I might damage the fabric. Temporary hem tape might work too.

Janet, I’ve found that to be true about Athleta’s stores too - when I’m in the store, the items never seem to be what I’ve seen online, and when I’m online, whatever I like always shows as not available in stores near me. I should check out Marshall’s and TJ Max as both are close by, and I just got a knee scooter yesterday so I am much more mobile and able to get around.

Oh no! You have my sympathy. I'm very familiar with the boot unfortunately. I wore lots of dresses and skirts in mine but I like the wide leg suggestions here. Athlete in general is great - they're one of my favorite stores! Hope that you have a quick recovery.

Christina, those are so nice! I think the pleats are stitched down far enough below the waist, plus the waistband looks to be a flat, yoga style, that the “poofiness” around the abs won’t be an issue.

I haven't seen those Athleta pants (so cute!) either but suggest you look at Old Navy's linen pants. I usually buy a version of their wide leg linen pants every other year - wash them in the machine and toss them in the dryer. These are similar to the ones I have

Elle, those Old Navy linen crops are great, aren’t they? That’s actually the exact pair I have on now (in “inkwell” which is actually more of a gray than blue, unfortunately). They fit and wash nicely, I just wish they came in some fun colors and patterns.

These are by far the best cut of Athleta pants for me. They hit me perfectly in the rise and waist, and are in the featherweight stretch fabric I love for hot weather. I had to have them hemmed for my 5'4" self and that cut off most of the vent (about an inch still left) but I would still call them wide leg or maybe flare...like more wide below the knee which might really suit you. And if you can keep more of the vent that might be even better.

Karie - yes, I believe they lay pretty flat. I’ll wear them later or tomorrow and post a pic.

Lana, I just got a black bodysuit. Thought I might try that first. I think any kind of tucked or cropped tee/tank would work. Athleta also has a matching top, which I have thought about. But it’s v-neck so in that color, I fear that it will give of scrubs vibes.

Karie, I don’t have any recommendations but want to offer my support. I’ve been wearing a boot for months after I broke my ankle in early February. I still wear it when I go for short walks outside but hope it will be OK to stop next week. Hang on there!
I wear old cropped wide leg pants at home and Levi’s jeans for outings.

Hope you will find pants you’ll like.

Wow, the Release pants look fantastic. They have it in a beautiful tawny rose color and in a wide range of sizes. Color me impressed!

Karie, I stopped back in at Athleta to return an online order and they had those patterned wide leg pants in stock, so I tried them on. They were not what I was looking for but I think they looked pretty good for your purposes. They did not seem to pajama-ish to me. Of course some of that depends on styling, but I really didn’t get that vibe from them. Let us know if you try them.
