WIB: Purse organizer (thanks, MsMary!)

I know Mary is a big proponent of these purse inserts to be able to switch out bags, but I don't switch bags that often and usually it's for size reasons - so I didn't think one of these made sense. But I caved and bought one for $10 at a local store because of surgery next week and needing to move from home to hospital to parents' place (they own a summer place near us) to my house to work, and just wanting all my stuff in a contained organizer. Plus my bag is always a black hole of lipstick and snacks and receipts and debris that I am hoping this will keep in check.

Does anyone else use these regularly?

I use a purse organizer. Actually I have several but my current fav is from The Container Store. When I get home I'll link to it. I don't switch my main purse that often but I prefer everything to be in its place. It does make it easy to switch to a clutch or wristlet because I know exactly what I want and where it is in my main purse. I think you are going to like it.

Been on the lookout for one in the shops, but have not been successful. I switch out my bag with some frequency and also use some bags and totes (like the Le Pliage) that don't have ANY internal compartments so stuff gets jumbled up. I think they are a great idea.

Yep....love mine! It's so convenient to pull it out and pop it in another purse. Plus, it keeps everything organized.

I use a purse organizer. It makes it so much easier to find things.

Just today I was having lunch with my husband and discovered I hadn't moved everything from one bag to the other - I forgot my reading glasses! So I forced to read the menu with my sunglasses. I also think having things in the same spot all the time would make it easier to find what you're looking for. The only problem is my bags vary wildly in size. In some, one of these would be fine, but in others it simply wouldn't fit.

That's been my issue, JAileen. But then I find that separating things leads to chaos too (wallet in one place, lipstick in another). I'm trying to figure out if organizers are the solution, or if only already organized people use them successfully!

I have several types and systems.
The main thing is as stated, some of them are too big .
Some slide around and stuff falls out.
I have one I inherited from my mom; one is from Container Store.
These are of a size that can transfer to shopper size bags.

I also use a slim mesh zip bag--like a little cosmetic bag--with just travel size contact solution, comb, lipstick, tissue and that is for clutches and small bags. I find that for small bags I have to just put the reading glasses and phone in separately to have them fit.

Still, I am plagued by the need for duplicates, or losing things in transferring from one bag, and overall it's just a pain so I avoid it usually and use one "errand bag" for a whole season and only change if I'm really motivated to be stylin'.
For small bags and evening outings, I'm lucky because DH is along (usually) and I don't have to take a wallet per se, hence try to go streamlined as above.

I tried one but it just wasn't ideal--didn't fit some of my bags and just added bulk. I ended up feeling the same way about it as I feel about those packing cubes some travellers swear by-they add too much bulk to a life I try to keep streamlined.

I now go without (lots of my bags have multiple compartments) or use a neutral toned clutch to hold a lippy, phone, wallet, keys and sunnies, then pop that into my larger work bag. That way I also have a smaller bag handy if needed. The downside is items are all thrown into the clutch so can be hard to find and I still end up carrying a separate makeup bag. I also don't change bags as often.

I use one that is transparent plastic. Easy to slide in and out of bags. The Key is to find a right size for most of your bags.

I like the organizer you bought, it looks like a hybrid of my two favorites. The purse organizer I'm currently using is by in.bag. I've tried a few others but for my current purse I prefer this one. I've also used the pouch system but I prefer the organizer. I do agree that the key is to get the right size, especially for smaller purses.

While I was looking up my organizer I saw a clear purse organizer that looks interesting. I'll have to check it out on my next visit. I'll be interested to know how it works out for you.

I have one and I use it to switch between work bags. I don't generally use it at night (when I often carry a clutch) or on the weekends. I seem to need to carry a lot more stuff when I go to work!

I want one, and am so the candidate for one, but I hate the look of them. Why can't someone make a really nice one? I know no-one but me will see it, but still!

After a week, I'll find approximately 6 lipsticks, 4 glosses, 3 tubes of hand cream, gym socks (I have no idea), receipts, 50 pieces of kleenex , Starbucks stir sticks, 3 pair of sunglasses, all of my reading glasses, a half-eaten protein bar, and 400 Tic Tacs that have magically fallen out of the container. Perhaps I don't deserve a nice purse organizer.

high five, Lisa. I always have nasty old gym socks in my purse, too. And escaped pieces of gum. And a lot of times my Swell bottle. I mostly try to buy bags with lots of good pockets, but of course that makes it more difficult to switch it all over. I have a largish pouch that has all the makeup/ asthma inhaler items, and that makes it a bit easier.

And can anyone tell me why car keys have to be so freaking big? I want to open my car, my garage door and / or my front door with my iPhone.

Lisa - stupid car keys! I often point my car key at the garage door, or try to get in the back door with my phone...but it's a brain disfunction, not wishful thinking.

I use one that I made. It's a predecessor to this pattern.

I keep thinking I want to make another one, because the one I'm using is the test that I made, several years ago, to try out the pattern. I've never gotten around to making another one. So many sewing projects, so little time.

Suz......I got mine at Solutions. I've had it for a few years so don't know what they currently have. But it's worth a look. They come in various sizes. Mine has different sized pockets around the outside...one is zipped...there's a clasp to hook keys on, etc.

Im glad this works for you. I have a bit of an aversion to these. I know Im a bit mad but I worry it's going to diminish the attractiveness of my bags. I know only I see inside but my bags all have delicious linings.

I need one! My technique of literally dumping everything from one bag to another isn't working so well..
Of course I need one that will put things in the little compartments for me as I am naturally a messy kinda gal.
