WIB: Polka Dot Skirt - YouLookFab Forum

Do you remember when I posted my Redbook Spring Capsule Copycat? The one piece that I really missed in my capsule was a polka dot pencil skirt. Well, it came home with me yesterday together with the white blazer, also thrifted from the Salvation Army!

I've recreated a couple of the Redbook looks, and they do really work a lot better with this skirt. I'm very pleased with it - it fits so well around my waist and hips. Do you think I should have it hemmed a little?

#1: Skirt front, back & side view
#2: Skirt as is with short blazer, and an alternative where I've rolled it up in the waist to a shorter length (with white blazer).

I like the longer length with heels, but I'm not too sure it will look good with flats, particularly oxfords. What do you recommend, dear YLF?

Fun skirt!
I'm thinking the length should be related to the silhouette. It's slightly A-line rather than pencil or very straight and I think it reads better shorter. But not necessarily a deal-breaker.

Tough choice. It looks amazing at both lengths. I'd wear it at full length a couple of times and see how you feel in it. That may help you decide.

Its a lovely skirt. I think I would keep the length. If you were to go shorter, I would want it tapered also. I would love to see a photo of the skirt at is regular length with the white jacket.

I love the length in the first picture - that outfit is terrific. Not sure how it would work with flat oxfords though. Anyway great skirt, and great find!

I think the skirt looks good at both lengths. I'm not sure how it will look at the longer length with oxfords though. I find certain skirt lengths don't look so good with flat shoes. How do you see yourself wearing it? Maybe that will help with the skirt length dilemma.

Nice find! I like it long. Kelly's suggestion to wear it long a few times makes a lot of sense. If you find yourself wishing it was shorter or having a hard time styling it, then shorten.

Great skirt! I also love the length with heels but think it needs to be a bit shorter and more tapered for oxfords. Maybe wear it a bit and see how often you wear it with heels first. Maybe you need two polka dot skirts!

If you are leaving it the original length I think you should taper it a little to more of a pencil shape.
Otherwise, I prefer the shorter length.
I love the neon belt with it!

Thanks, everyone! I'm going to play a little more with it to see what would be best. I tried it with my oxfords yesterday, and felt I ventured straight into frump-land! Ballerina flats etc will probably work better. I would love to have a skirt in this length, too, as most of my skirts are shorter.

Cute skirt!! I am with Parsley. If leaving longer, taper it to a real pencil. Right now it's a slim A-line. You did some brilliant thrifting!

Dots are so fun! I just scored on a pair of navy, dotted oxford shoes that were on sale at the GAP. (Last one in my size, too. Squee!)

I like both lengths, but I'm a little hesitant on the A-line shape. Full skirts and pencil skirts seem to be more modern than A-lines at the moment. How about tapering it in at the sides?

Love this skirt - but, imho, it would look better tapered, if you want to wear it this length, and with your oxfords.

Oh I adore this skirt! My favourite look is the last outfit, so I guess I prefer the skirt at a shorter length. That said, I do like the longer length too and agree it's nice to have a bit of variety if you usually go for shorter lengths.

Love the neon belt too. It's the perfect pop of colour without being too much.

You are really quite the pro at thrifting aren't you? This is lovely and works so well with your style. I like all renditions here, especially the last one with the white blazer.

I think I'd like it a bit tapered if you keep the original length. If you decide to keep the a-line shape, then I would probably shorten it a bit.

Thanks, everyone! I am thinking that the length is fine as is, but if I have this tapered, I will need to make a slit somewhere to allow for easy walking. That should be possible for me to do, although my sewing skills are somewhat rusty.
