Ok. My NAS debrief:

1) I made it into the sale pretty early on this year.
2) I’m glad I decided not to be crazy and drive all over the Bay Area. The sale is apparently an online thing mainly now. The pickup section was bigger than the floor space devoted to the sale.
3) I ordered the shearling jacket and sweatshirt dress online in-store.
4) Really rather liked the sweatshirt dress despite its unwashability. The fabric was fairly substantial and warm. The M was huge. I looked like Friar Tuck.
5) I tried on the Avec Les Filles. Huge hesitation over it v. the Edelman. I went and ordered the Edelman, but even in XL and that dangly belt at the bottom, the Avec really looked good to me. The Avec belt btw is secured to the jacket with a snap, which is a plus in my book.
6) I tried on two pairs of mules... I’m wondering if I have low volume feet. No way I’d be able to keep them ON my feet.
7) Came away with one extra unintentional thing: a long jacquard jacket (I think it’s B.B. Dakota). I saw it online and had decided to pass even tho I’ve been wanting something all-over ‘embroidered.’ But then I saw it in person...

Pics: sweatshirt dress, WIW, long jacket... Lilypup and her carriage... 94F in the suburbs! Lilypup was feelin’ the heat!

ETA: Ok, the jacket is the Sal Edelman ‘brocade’ jacket. Jacquard, brocade... what do I know? Lol!

Lily pup was tuckered out. I like the sweatshirt dress even though I think you said it was dry clean. Also the long jacket is a great shape on you. What exactly did you end up getting?

I like the longer jacket on you. Also the jacquard jacket. I like everything you have selected. You have excellent taste. Lilypup does not appear to be enjoying shopping as much as you.

Poor tuckered out Lilipup. What are her choices for you? Love the sweatshirt dress and long jacket, and do not see Friar Tuck. I would probably use Dryell on the sweatshirt dress unless you think it would pill with the friction.

I have looked now, and the jacket is the Sam Edelman brocade. Sam was a big hit with me this year.

Am trying the dress in a smaller size, Angie, yes!

And Yes! The world has ended, no NAS Puffy this year Last year’s is in good shape, and honestly, I didn’t even see any in the store!

Lilypup admittedly seemed a little bored this year. She likes to ride in her carriage a whole lot, but I guess it was a) HOT and b) we were in one of the fancy dressing rooms... the walls went all the way down, so no peeking and scaring any dressing room neighbors, lol!

I love your purchases, especially the brocade coat. I can see why you picked it up after your initial rejection based on the pictures.

The sweatshirt dress is so much fun. I’m trying to decide if it’s worth trying to wash at home despite the dry clean only instructions? Would it shrink, fade or streak? Can it be tested on a small inconspicuous section inside the dress?

I remember your description about the journey to and from the mall from last year, so I can understand Lilypup’s need for a rest! 94F! Around here, with some humidity, and the dog would not go out. I might not either.....

Have to take a moment to discuss what one wears shopping. I wear slip-on shoes, leggings, sleeveless tee and a skirt for decency. My whole goal is to minimise the effort of dressing and undressing. No makeup (hate it when people get makeup on clothes, trying them on). Hair pulled back (easy to redo). I feel a bit underdressed usually, but I’m all about making it all go faster, lol.

Does anyone else do things like this?

I'm the same way about preparing to shop--I always think about what I'm wearing so as to make changing clothes easier. I usually wear a t-shirt, shorts or skirt, and flats/sandals (without an ankle strap or buckle). I don't wear makeup either. I too feel overly casual, but it's worth saving the irritation of having to undo lots of zippers and buttons and stuff.

Aside: I scrolled thru 92 online web pages, is how I came across the dress. Lol! Walked the whole store and didn’t see it, had to ask. Everything was packed onto some anonymous racks in a rather small section. Back in the day, the whole store would have been a NAS festival...

i felt totally underwhelmed with the in store NAS experience as well....i did the card members only shopping online as i was out of town, but went to the store on saturday....and honestly, only i thing i bought was actaually availbable in my store....
but it does look like you find some gems....

I share your approach to the “shopping outfit”, Rachylou. Monochrome, pants and top so I can remove either/or as opposed to a dress where you have to take it all off. Honestly I try on lots of things with my pants still on underneath.

I have found that many midrange shops in my region provide a sort of scarf to drape over the face when trying on clothes, to prevent makeup smudges (also helps with hair mussing). And also, they have “examples” on the shop floor to try on, but if you decide to buy something they will retrieve a pristine wrapped one from the back. I find both of these strategies brilliant.
