WIB: Leopard Skirt (and a question)

The leopard skirt I ordered arrived today, and I like it! Reformation is a sustainable manufacturer, and the viscose blend fabric turned out to be better than I imagined, so it’s a keeper. I need y’all’s advice on sizing though.

The size I ordered rests just above my hips rather than higher up on my waist. I’m okay with that, as I don’t think the size down would flow as nicely over my hips, and it gives me room to partial-tuck a chunky sweater. However, that does make it a little longer than I expected.

Do you think this length is okay? Should I get it shortened? Or should I risk sizing down? (It’s also a little wrinkly here from shipping, but not so much as to materially affect the length once it’s pressed, I don’t think.)

Lisa, that could be from the wrinkles. I should probably steam it and try it with various shoe options before making a decision.

I quite like the lenght! As for tailoring, have you ever tried doing it yourself? That's how my entire sewing career started, with a skirt sitting too low. Two neat pleats in the back, voila

Synne, I don’t have a sewing machine, but i could probably manage a couple of tucks in back by hand. If I’m going to hem, though, I’d just as soon drop it at the dry cleaners and let them do it.

I quite like the length, it has a nice dramatic flare. But I’m partial to those lengths myself, and I think you wear it particularly well — the length doesn’t overwhelm you and creates a nice proportion, especially with your boots. That’s a great skirt!

I'd think a tad shorter would give a more "midi" feel -- if that's what you're going for! Otherwise, looks great. Very rocker glam

I actually really like it this length, but advise you to steam and try out with different footwear options -- also try walking up and down stairs to see if it catches and threatens to trip you.

This is going to be a FAB purchase for you, Jenn -- it already looks so "you."

Thanks for weighing in, Janet. I trust your eye. I'm 5'9", but I must have short legs for my height, because things are long on me more often than you'd think. I usually can get away with it, though, so that's good.

Oh Suz, good point on the stairs. We have three sets of them in this house, so that would old quickly.

Kellygirl, I have more of a pear shape, which can be frustrating in my size range. A lot of larger sizes are cut for rounder figures with a smaller waist:hip differential.

nuancedream, I'm glad you're finding yours versatile. I think it will be a year-round piece for me here, so I should be able to get plenty of wear out of it before the trend passes.

I think it looks great as is. If it’s viscose, keep in mind it might shrink a little in the wash. Some of my skirts have come out shorter after washing.

Also, just a note. I linked the find to this skirt at Nordstrom, but the Reformation site has it in extended sizing, with petites and plus.

Ditto on keeping that length and shrinkage possibility. Looks good with your boots and graphic tee.

The fit is perfect and I would not order the size down. I would try it with the various shoes you want to wear with it and can always have it shortened (just a bit) after you wear it a while.

I have had same dilemma. I usually like a but shorter on me. But I agree try different footwear and what seasons you’ll wear if most, and also think, maybe this is a great opportunity for this longer length. When you try it on at home, you can try hiking it up just to get an idea. You may find you lose some of the specialness if shorter.
The good thing is, you can wear it at this length right now and see how it works- because it looks great, you can’t go wrong trying it out, it’s more about how you feel about different lengths and proportions.

I like it as is too!

You definitely shouldn’t size down. I agree with Suz about checking stair walking length.
But I’d like it a few inches shorter, a bit of skin between the boots & skirt
