WIB - Trying out something completely new to me

I have always loved full swishy skirts and Angie's post here http://youlookfab.com/2013/02/.....-are-back/ convinced me to buy one this season. This purchase was not planned at all and although I have exceeded my meager budget for clothing already this year, I could not resist this skirt from BR on sale. I realize this was totally an impulse purchase (which is unusual for me) but it was on 40% off and I wanted to start experimenting with skirts this year. Also, this may not be one of the most practical items in my wardrobe ( Summers are sadly short in this part of the world and I have low tolerance for arctic a/c) but i thought this would be a fun addition to my wardrobe.
As this is my first attempt at trying full skirts, please look at these pics with a very critical eye to see if I got the right proportions. You can be brutally honest with your comments and suggestions. Does the skirt need shortening at all?

Beautiful Mona, so good to see you post! I really love this full skirt on you. It seems to be a perfect fit, and I wouldn't touch the length. I'm pretty conventional, so I like the tucked in shirts that show the skirt's waistband: 7,8 and 9 in particular. You must wear skirts and dresses, you have the legs for them for sure!

Thanks, ladies! So looks like tucking in does the magic. I am so relieved to hear that the length is okay as I liked it at this length but was unsure if it was the most flattering.

My favourites are 7 with the soft colour of the blouse and the white sandals ( those are great sandals btw) and 3 and 4 where you have the column of white against the dark jackets.
I think the length is perfect.

Full skirt + tucked in shirt is a fabulous silhouette on you! I hope you take to it. Perhaps a winter full or A-line skirt (that would work with boots and tights) is in your future?

It looks lovely on you! I do prefer the tucked in tops rather than the hip length tops over the skirt. I think it would be cute with the blouses tied at the waist, too.

The first top is a bit too long, but all the other tops look great with the skirt. The orange tops tucked in are so pretty on you.

SO pretty! I love this on you -- it is absolutely a new silhouette for you. But you must wear it often, because you have such pretty legs, and this is a wonderful shape on you. I love it with all the tucked tops, and think it is the perfect length.

I think this skirt is wonderful on you, especially with the tucked tops! I think you should continue to wear flared skirts, including winter weight ones with tights and boots in the winter. I remember you said that you never wore skirts or dresses--I'm glad you've changed your mind on them!

It is a great length just as it is. Super look.for you tucked . You could also try banded bottom tops as in Angie' s post on similar full skirts, but your shirts- pastels and brights, also black & white combo- are lovely.

This skirt looks great on you. The length looks just right to me. I like the tops tucked best and your short denim jacket better than the longer blazer.

Mona, you look great in a skirt, so glad you are trying something new! I felt that all the looks worked except for 1 and 6. the tucking is lovely and so are the versions with blazer which would allow you to also use the skirt into fall. I loved the white on white version. Add a belt to that one!

Only opened no.1 and know this works. Look at those legs! Does it make any sense to say you look even more beautiful in this skirt, as a whole... somehow, your femininity just exploded to my eye. Wow, wow!!! Will be back to study everything in detail later, I'm at the door, off to an appointment.

This skirt is simply perfect for you. All looks work, tucked ones the best, of which #9 is my favourite.

Joy, great observation about the blazer length. I will try it with my other blazer that is a little bit shorter than this.
Jayne, it looks like the untucked shirts just don't work with this full pleated skirt. I would have loved to add a belt to this but the skirt has no belt loops.
Ornella, this is why I love the full skirts as they are so feminine and I think that is a big part of my style.
Lantana, it feels great to venture into something totally new as it gives us so much confidence to take small risks.

Mona, it may have been an impulse buy but I think it was a great find because you can pair it with so many different tops! The length is just right and it looks great on you.

So, back to this thread at last. I really wanted to look at the options in more detail after initially being smitten the whole idea of the full skirt on you.

I love how you've styled this skirt. LOVE. It has your name all over it. The only option that's slightly off to my eye is 6, but it's a great exercise just to see the proportions and learn from them, especially when compared with other outfits.

#1 - Heavenly. I love that this particular top is untucked over the skirt and it works because we can still see the waist. Beautiful detailing on the top. Also, excellent choice of footwear.

#2 - Another winner on all accounts - unmistakeable white button-down, white on white, and I think the discrete bangle adds a little bit of interest making the whole outfit more than just "I threw this on". I love the bangle+shoes matchy-matchiness.

#3 - Divine. You've mastered bookending, as simple as that. How wonderful to see the gradual transition from one outfit to another by changing very few details. Great choice of shoes this time and that jacket is beautifully tailored and works like it was made for this style of skirt.

#4 - It took me a bit to get used to this jacket length after the previous one which is more classic, feminine and instant winner. But, I figured out that this length and the hi-ness sneakers are match made in heaven. Amazing, educational transition to the outfit with completely different vibe. Wow!

#5 Such wonderful sandals. Great top. One word - chic.

#6 - Another great top and I'd just tuck it in. How about black shoes to bookend that pocket?

#7 - So soft and pretty. Wonderful example of how different style of the button-down creates different outfit.

#8 - Wow! I love the black shoes here!

#9 - Yes, I've died and gone to style heaven. End of story.

Mona, you are gorgeous. You've nailed your style to perfection. This skirt was made for you, did I say that? Wear and enjoy - and post WIWs, so we can enjoy it as well.

I think this is one of my favorite YLF threads ever. And I am not exaggerating. Everything that I am on the forum for, style theory-wise, is here, in one place - great piece of clothing, styled perfectly with essentially very few support acts and with its full potential clearly shown. The bonus is that I can also relate to it because it's very much in tune with my style preferences and I have similar piece for which I just got endless extra inspiration, but my true joy comes from the fact of seeing such perfect match of the item and the wearer. Thank you for sharing.
