WI Made: Dotty Dress & Two Tone Shoes

Just hoping to indulge in a little DIY sharing

This dress is the first garment i have ever made from scratch. I have done any number of upcycle attempts and home decor sewing but this is a first and was fun and easier than I thought it would be. I am looking forward to upping my sewing skills so that some of the more avant garde items I like but my wallet doesnt can enter my closet.

The shoes were plain jane brown and hadnt been getting much wear but are foot friendly so I decided to try a little two tone effect with some left over leather dye (paint really) from my handbag project. Im not sure if I should leave like this or go all turquoise? Would love to hear your thoughts.

I love DIY projects, that dress is perfectly fitting. Did I mention I have heart palpitations when I see polka dots? I really do like what you have creatively done to your shoes, however I wonder what they would look like fully turquoise?

The dress is very 'Kate Spade' looking, and very much what seems on trend for s/s. Well done!

I'm not sold on the shoes. Two tone seems like a great way to go, but I'm not so sure about the turquoise. Do you have red shoes? Red would be great with the dress.

I kind of like the shoes - who else would have a pair of shoes exactly like this - what looks like distressed/burnished brown and bright turquoise. They're very noticeable.

The dress came out amazing. Not just for a first effort - amazing period. Wonderful fit.

I love them both! The shoes are spectacular: blue and brown is one of my favorite combinations.

I think the length of the dress might look very different with heels - have you tried it with other shoes? I'm seeing pumps the same color as the dark of the dress, but that's just me...

Sarah, your sewing is fantastic! I love the dress and the fit is excellent. I can't believe this was your first foray into garments. I have a very similar Kate Spade dress but it is a cream background with navy polka dots. The DIY on the shoes is very cool. I think I would go all turquoise. My turquoise shoes are one of my favourite pairs.

Runcaria, Oh I really love the idea of red shoes here. I am in search of a some and hope to find them soon so I can pair here.

Vildy, I know you are an expert seamstress so that is quite a compliment

Adorkable, No I have not tried it on with other shoes yet. To be honest I, finished adjusting the hip seams down a size and was so pleased with the adjustment I put on the shoes (to show the other diy) and snapped the photo. I think it would be fun with both heels and sandals for casual summer days.

TinaB, I hadn't actually planned on a Kate Spade look. I just choose a fabric I liked and a pattern I thought I could accomplish successfully. So much the better if it looks Kate Spade-ish though! I love so much of her stuff! And, your turquoise shoes are some of my fav's too....

BethAnn, I know if we just spent our time sewing and not shopping and returning we might be in for about the same amount of time... and have something to show for the effort! Although the "Fashion Fabrics Club" website might be my new web browsing addiction though... or just behind my desire to design my own fabrics on Spoonflower.

Well I just love the mix of distressed leather with BRIGHT clean turquoise, I vote to leave the shoes as-is. They're super fun. Great job on the dress, too!

I want your dress. You did a beautiful job with it. The shoes are fun but I think I'd like them best all blue (or maybe blue and green), especially going into spring and summer.

DS, and Aida -- I think i will leave the shoes as is (for a time at least) to eval if I find them to be a newly reached for item. I can always for full turq. later but once gone cannot go back.

Jules, I dont wear much boho but my summer wardrobe is more boho than my winter one certainly.

Lyn and Thistle, this was seriously amazingly easy to do. Just being precise and following directions. I am totally convinced we all can do this! (If we want to and it is fun for us....) I love doing something concrete like " I made X."

Joy -- Oh! Green, with the turq..... I have left over green dye too! And magenta actually as well....
