Why is swimwear out now?

Maybe Angie or someone else who is more experienced with retail cycles can answer this question: Why is swimwear out now? It just seems that "resort collections" and summer clothing appears the first week or so into the New Year. Ummm, I just took down my Christmas Tree a few days ago, and we are getting another blizzard in the North East. Does anyone else find this a mystery?

I always thought it was an alliance of the swimsuit companies and the gyms. The swimsuit companies put out their stuff and we all run to the gym in a panic Then the gyms give the swim wear makers a kickback.

Queen Mum- that's hilarious! I think you might be onto something.

I think everyone is right about the winter vacations and cruises. Now that I live in Arizona I appreciate the early season changes. We only have a few months where you can't hang out at the pool- well you could but it would be a tad bit chilly.

I had the same thoughts as QM!

Plus they're already putting out the spring and summer styles, so why not include the swimsuits too?!

And finally, when you buy things before you actually get a chance to wear them, you are more likely to a) forget what you bought and buy duplicates, b) stock up on things you won't actually wear, and c) use your current feeling that you don't have anything (wintery) to wear to shop more, but never change that current feeling because the only things you can buy are for spring/summer, and so you keep shopping to fill that void.

I'm a bit of a cynic.

I guess inexpensive travel has meant people are willing to travel further for winter sun, hence the cruise collections at this time of year.

I think it's all a marketing ploy to get us shopping earlier and perhaps more. The holiday themed candies, the clothing - it's all coming out earlier and earlier so we can start buying NOW and keep buying until the last sale of the end of season happens.
But I have to say there is nothing to go with the swimwear. I just want a big brimmed sunhat and Target, Ross, and Beall's (southern based dept store) are all a bust. I found one groovy 70's print one at an outlet but it's blue and green while my swimsuits are red pink and orange. guess I'll just have to wait for the headgear to catch up with the swimwear.
