Hi, everyone -

I probably won't be active here for the next while (though I hope to pop in when and as I can). On Thursday, my mother fell and broke her ankle and foot. Sadly, she won't be wearing the cute booties she craved, but instead will be wearing a big grey boot!

I did participate in the neutrals challenge and will be wearing neutrals for a lot longer than I had imagined, since I'm still living out of last week's suitcase. Wish me luck! Even neutral loving me is getting colour hungry!

Oh Suz, I'm so sorry about your mum's broken foot and ankle. I hope she'll recover soon.

To her I prescribe a loving daughter's care, to you - a fun colorful scarf to keep you smiling.

Ever since you wrote how she pronounced 'booties' in a fun way, I've been trying to think what it might sound like In my head, your mum says it the same way as the word 'boutique', except that sound S replaces K... if it makes sense.

Thanks, Isabel and Alicat and Ornella. And Dr. Ornella, that's a pretty accurate idea of how she pronounces it....

I must tell you that the impression I may have given of my mother is a bit at odds with the reality. She is...um...shall we say....quite a STRONG personality, and not at all easy to deal with (especially for her daughter). Thank goodness, she also has a sense of humour to leaven out the frequent temper. And yes, that persisting interest in fashion. Wish me luck!

Suz; I was wondering where you were. My thoughts are with you. If your mom is anything like mine, she is angry and frustrated at being laid up and relatively immobile. If so, I hope she doesn't take it out on you. One of the frustrations of growing older is that everything takes longer to heal. I suppose if she is in Canada, she has the treachery of ice and snow to contend with?

Sorry to hear about your mom. A friend just had bunion surgery and she's in a very similar boot. Good luck with the recovery for both of you.

Oh no, your poor Mom. I spent time in one of those contraptions last summer for a broken ankle or as the docs say a "left medial malleolar tibial fracture" and a "fracture left fibula (lateral malleolar fracture)". What is with those crazy doc words?!?! Is she able to walk on the boot yet? I spent a few days on crutches and wasn't allowed to put *any* weight on my ankle and that was horrible! I do have to say that breaking my ankle is the single most painful thing I have endured...far ahead of childbirth, C-section and open heart surgery on my "painful things I've personally felt" list.

I just read a comment on Sal's blog that coined a brilliant expression: "Commune with your awesomeness". Perhaps you can use the downtime to do a bit of that?

Hope everything goes well for your mom and that you manage to struggle through. Even with the kindest most loving heart it can sometimes be a struggle when they don't feel well and need someone to pit all their angst against.

Do all you can to keep your sense of humor and encourage your Mom to keep hers!!! It is the BEST thing to be able to laugh over something when you're feeling badly and frustrated and tempted to take it out on those close to you. I am so sorry for you and your Mom, and wish that the recovery is speedy and total!

Patty, I laughed so hard at your comment! And Alicat, bribing with beer is not far off. I gave her a big glass of wine when we got back from the hospital yesterday (after I had her safe in bed, that is). And gave myself one, too!

You're right, Kappy, ankle injuries are really awful. And I do sympathize with her and think she is a real trouper; she is supposed to keep weight off and has a walker for getting to the bathroom. She is legally blind, very frail, and may not even heal from this, but she is trying to keep her spirits up. Part of that involves insulting me....

ah well....

At least I look fab in my neutrals, LOL!

Oh, Suz! I actually had a feeling something might have happened with your mom when I noticed you weren't around much this week. I am so sorry for the both of you.
