There is method to this madness. The crazy retail cycle revolves around two assumptions:
1. That people plan their seasonal wardrobes ahead of time so that you ready for “that first Spring day”.
2. That appropriate markdowns can be taken throughout a retail season before the actual real life season starts. Items need to sell at full price first and then go on sale. So they sell on sale in the real life season.
This is a worldwide phenomenon and it’s just the same in the Southern hemisphere where the seasons are behind us. Geographical location has a lot to do with it. It doesn’t start to warm up here until May or June either, but in other parts of the country this is not the case.
