Why do I like this dress?

I'm not buying it. I have no occasion to wear a dress, it's pricey, and I don't think the soft muted colors would look good on me. It also looks like the kind of style that would read bathrobe...I always feel things turn PJ vibe on me really fast.

I think I like it because it looks so much like how my grandmother dressed. It just looks kind of vintage 1920s-30s, like a soft, romantic day dress. I also like how the waist is very slightly defined but without being a real belt, and that the waist is low and not empire.

Those are my theories! I'm curious to see what others think of this dress.

Lots to love about this dress: the v-neck, elbow length sleeves, mid-calf length, the slightly defined waist, and of course, the swoosh factor! The colour of beige is all wrong for me, though.

If it reminds you of your grandmother, then that also may be a factor in you liking the dress.

It’s not my colors, so for that alone I’m not really attracted to it
but it does have a easy no nonsense vibe. And I get where you are seeing a 20s/30s vibe, but..and this is where it’s so interesting how personal and subjective fashion is, instead of seeing a soft, romantic day dress, i see utilitarian work dress.

Very pretty and yes, it does remind me of my grandmother too (well, the one who didn’t wear all black because she was in mourning for the last 30 years of her life…)

I think deliberate styling would keep this from veering into bathrobe territory.

I agree that a lower waist is so much nicer than empire waist. Both in terms of comfort and appearance.

It reminds me a bit of my grandmother, too, although her version would have been a bit more structured, I think. It's pretty! I would not wear it because of the print and colours but I would wear this silhouette.

I very often am drawn to pieces that remind me of someone in my past, or an item I owned in the past. I have to be careful not to purchase these items without a critical assessment of how it looks on me today. I have made quite a few of these mistakes before. And because you asked, I am not a fan of this dress for me, not the color, the print or the silhouette.

I find the neutral palette quite soothing, just have to be sure the beige doesn't make you look (as my own grandmother would have said) "like death warmed over."

I like the dress. It also reminds me of my grandmother, except hers would be a coral in multi colors. She would especially like those wide sleeves to cover heavy upper arms.

I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing the appeal. I really do think it's that it looks like my grandmother.

As I said, I'm not getting it. Too $$, I don't need a dress, and the colors are wrong for me. When I enlarge the fabric print I can see that the background patterns are a pale yellow. If they were more pink toned that might make it harder to resist but as it is, I don't see this dress on me at all. I just like it in the abstract.
