I thought these two might play together nicely, but now I'm thinking no. Is it solids only for this camo and lace scarf?

I think you need a greater contrast between the items. Right now it's a lot of mush.

Yes, greater contrast...maybe that's why I'm kind of "meh" on putting them together.

Plus on a second look, I like different scales when pattern mixing.

I've read that before about using different scales when pattern mixing. Thanks for the pinterest link, the bolder leopard looks great with the camo print. At least I know my idea of mixing camo and leopard wasn't totally wonky!

Yeah, I agree this look doesn't quite nail it. But I don't think you're limited to solids only. For one thing, I bet that scarf would look AMAZING with a striped shirt. Or plaid. Something large scale and linear, that won't fight the small scale curvy shapes in the camo.

The camo is neutral and Oliver so it would look great against orange or purple. Agree stripes is a likely pattern mixer.

Although you could pattern mix with the above suggestions, I would let the scarf be in-charge and wear with a solid top. You could always have patterned shoes with it if you crave more interest.
