Why are the Melissa Button Boots following me?

I just linked to the Melissas for Anne and now they are following me everywhere I go online! This is NOT helpful for SYC efforts!

Has anyone else noticed that after you click on an item at Zappos or some other retailer, that the item pops up on all sorts of ads on all sorts of other websites afterwards?

oh yes, every time I open my e-mail I see shoes, shoes, and more shoes! argh!

I see this too, I think it's a cookie or some browser history setting.

Although I'm personally finding the new tv adverts on photobucket even more annoying.

Yes, this definitely happens to me! It seems to be happening more lately, which really isn't helpful since I'm trying to refrain from buying much. But things I love are shoved in my face at every website I visit!

I have actually just noticed it in the past few weeks or so. I wonder if this is something new. (not that cookies are new.. I know that... but I hadn't noticed the adds for the specific things I had already looked at)

I am sure someone with more tech expertise will tell you are, but I am sure that you can clear your computer of cookies, so no more stalking boots.

Otherwise, perhaps link to something you would never want to buy? But that may just lead to more torment!

Yes that happens to me too. It is not helpful. You can clean out your cookies and the things that you have recently linked to.

there's a great article in the wsj on precisely how this happens technologically, very interesting(sorry can't find the link at this moment). the author was haunted by a pair of shoes after she put it in her cart as a wish. she wound up buying them!

I think turning off cookies may also eliminate the ones you really want i.e. the ones that remember your passwords and remember which pages you have already viewed. It's usually a google ad which flags the things I have been looking at, it's rather fun when Ben has been on the computer and my shoes are switched for alloy bike pedals!

I kinda like it. Love having a parade of boots in beautiful shapes and colors marching up and down the sides of whatever web page I'm on. My kind of eye candy!

Yeah, I just listened to an interview on Fresh Air yesterday where they interview that person from the Wall Street Journal. It was pretty interesting. I noticed too now that after I posted a link to mytheresa.com that now an ad pops up for me from that store.

Actually, I think they also said that Google now gives different search results depending on your profile, so if you and I google the same thing we won't get the same results.
