Whose having the best after christmas sales?

I saw an amazing sale at NY&C, which is a store I normally never go to. They really improved their style lately. Just look at this: http://www.nyandcompany.com/ny.....=cat730008 Any other sales I should know about? OH, and is saks fith avenue really on the verge of going out of business like people are saying, or is this just there normal holiday sale? I've heard people saying Nordstrom is having a hard time because of their extremely generous sale, but I know their sale is actually up to 80% off every year, not just this one.

I don’t know if JJill is your style but I was in the store this afternoon and everything seemed to be on sale. I picked out a sweater, layering tee, and earrings, all on sale. When I got to the register, they told me everything was an ADDITIONAL 40% off! I got all three items for about $40. I often pay full price when I really want something so this was a killer deal, IMO.

I just heard about this on the news:

Saks (and other stores) purchased more from manufacturers than they could sell, anticipating more holiday shopping, so they are dropping prices ridiculously low to get rid of the excess. They're saying a lot of large companies might be declaring bankruptcy, but can't say which ones.

They also said use your gift cards as soon as you can because you never know when stores will declare bankruptcy and not accept them anymore.

Scary stuff.

...but the purple blouse is pretty.

That's the same blouse I posted a couple of weeks ago on this forum. I couldn't find it in the store and I ended up purchasing these from NY&CO, all on super sale:

I have not had a spare moment to go shopping. I don't anticipate having time until well into next week--and who knows what will be on sale by then!

I did get a $50 Macy's GC from my boss though. And hubby and I are going away for a few days this week. We're going to an area that has a lot of boutique shopping, not a lot of chain stores.

Oh no! How sad that JJill is closing all stores. Some of my favorite sweaters are from there. I have to get back in there ASAP and stock up ...

I didn't see them on the list but I heard someone on the news mention that Pier1 may be closing. That would really be a sign of just how bad times are. Pier1 has been around forever. I remember when they used to carry some clothing too, about 10 years ago or so. The inner hippie in me loved the ethnic clothes and jewelry they had. I have quite a few nice home decor pieces from them too.

Saks is having a crazy sale right now. I'm not sure whether they are actually closing or not--I haven't seen any advertising or mention of it at the actual store when I visit. I was just there this evening to see if they had a jacket that I saw online, but I didn't find it. I did find a sweater and a dress though (hee hee). The price of both of them together added up to less than half the price of one of them at full price, which I think is a pretty killer sale. I will post photos on another thread. Definitely take advantage if there is one near you--I've found better deals in store (but better selection online).

Nordstrom hasn't seemed to really get their sale going yet. Most of the stuff I've seen on sale there have been things that were on sale before Christmas, and they are still the same price.

I haven't been to a proper mall since before Christmas, so I'm not sure if any other stores are having sales. J. Crew is having a good sale, but it's back to final sale mode, so be sure before you buy. Neiman Marcus' sale is better online--much better selection, and now that they are offering an additional 40% a bunch of stuff, the price is very similar to what you would find in-store. I've found their handbag and accessory selection is better in-store though.

Apparently, there is a lot of misinformation floating around these days. According to the article quoted below, retailers like J.Jill and Talbots are NOT closing their stores. Phew!

“Talbots, which owns the J. Jill brand of stores, are supposedly closing both chains, according to the e-mail. Not true, says a spokeswoman.

The Hingham, Mass.-based company did close 78 Talbots stores late last year and earlier this year, including 66 Talbots kids' stores and 12 Talbot's men's stores, but has no plans to close anymore of its stores, according to Julie Lorigan, vice president for media relations.

What is true is that Talbots earlier this year announced plans to sell its J. Jill chain of stores, but not to close any of them.”
