I'm with you, Julie- I've been loving Carey Mulligan lately. She always looks so modern but retro, and never fussy. That Prada sundress is, in my opinion, the most gorgeous thing EVER. It actually makes me want to cry, that's how much I love it. Good thing I'm making something very similar out of some vintage fabric I've got!

Julie, do you ever get down to London? I think you'd love the Grace Kelly exhibit, at the V&A until the end of September!

I love the classic elegant style of old Hollywood : Lana Turner, Audrey Hepburn and Loretta Young. All impeccable styled and beautifully graceful.

Gwen Stafani , and Christina Aguilera are two that come to mind who have gotten the~ total look~ down to an art. They realize if you are going to be bleached ~white~ blonde and still look classy...the rest has to follow. They are both impeccably styled from head to toe. This is the most difficult look to pull off and they do it beautifully...

Oh, I love this question! I don't really follow celebrities much, and so I've come to adore the everyday women I see blogging about their styles on the Internet, like A, E and S over at Academichic, Tania at What Would a Nerd Wear, Diana at Smiles Go With Everything, Danielle at Fell4Fashion, Janet at Orchids in Buttonholes, Hilary at The Gleam of Rose Tea Outfits, etc., not to mention all the lovely YLF women who either blog about their styles or post to this forum for feedback. I think it's an incredibly powerful thing to see normal, everyday women with all different body types, budgets, and lifestyles experimenting, trying new things and pushing themselves outside their own comfort zones. It's exciting and inspiring to me precisely because it can be hit or miss--there isn't an entourage of professional stylists, designers, makeup artists, photographers and editors to polish it all up. I think it's so brave for all of you to experiment in a such a public space on an almost daily basis and ask for input, and I learn so much more from this process than I ever have from some glossy fashion magazine's photo spread (as much fun as those can be). I was particularly struck by the response Academichic had to its Dress Your Best Week a few weeks ago in which women on blog after blog dressed to celebrate what they liked about their bodies and wanted to accentuate, rather than hide.

Cate Blanchett: She knocks my socks off. Even when I hate what she's wearing, her style always manages to convey a sense of intelligence and wit. Look at this great neckline and how it flatters her face:

Cate Blanchett is so luminous I don't care what she is wearing. But I agree, whether I like her outfit or not, she always looks witty. Gwyneth Paltrow, ditto what you said, Mac. Much as I want to write her off as a ditz, I am always interested to see her. Thanks for sharing the beautiful links.

My style crush...I am always and forever in love with Audrey Hepburn. Too bad she is hard to copy in this day and age. Besides that, I like how Jennifer Anniston always manages to look so elegant in basic pieces, and I have a soft spot for Reese Witherspoon too. I have seen the advice that you should find a well-dressed woman with a similar look/shape to yourself for inspiration, and I am still trying to figure out who that would be, but maybe Reese is the closest. Everyone says Rachel Bilson dresses so cute, but her look is maybe a little too young.

Actually, my real style crush is a sales girl I used to know, but I have moved now and I can't keep track of her anymore When I have myself figured out though, I will dress like her, I hope. I should try to track her down really.

I'd have to say Carla Bruni. I love how she looks classic but still sexy. She also wears a lot of flats and makes them look chic!

Mac, Just saw your post, and in case you are still reading...

Hmm, it's really hard to describe her style. She has a simple long layered hair cut sometimes with a little fringe, but somehow it always looks neat and styled. She wears classic clothes but always with a modern twist. She is someone who pays attention to all the little details. If she wears a coat for example, it is a coat with a beautiful line that flatters her shape, coloring, and outfit. I admire that she is about 15 years older than I am but wears trends without looking like she is trying. If she wears something casual, it is nevertheless well thought out. Like she once wore a grey, sweatshirt-material, short-sleeved, double-breasted jacket with white jeans and black converse and somehow looked like a million bucks. I guess because the color combo was well thought out and everything fit great, and the cut of the sweatshirt jacket was sharp. She is always wearing something slightly unexpected, like a black top with jeans and black shoes, but the black top has an interesting cut and is made out of eyelet lace, so it has textural interest. I guess she just always looked great whether she was casual or dressy. She was also just a super nice and fun person who seems to really enjoy life. I am sure that was part of why I admired her style also. I think you are right, I have got to track her down.

I hope you can track her down Scarlet! Can you imagine how incredible it would feel if someone tracked you down to tell you how much they are inspired by your personal style? I would be doing the happy dance for weeks!
