Hello! I'm a long-time lurker, first time poster. I'm an early 30's librarian, and I've been fashion challenged for a good portion of my life. I've always been picky about fit and comfort, but resisted the social aspects of fashion for quite some time.

Now I'm in a profession where I interact with the public every day, and I'm coming around to the value of looking good and caring about how I look. I've been working for awhile on a plan for revamping my wardrobe, and now I'm trying to execute it within the constraints of a civil servant's salary. Looking forward to hanging out with y'alll.

Hi all. Came across this site while trying to find ideas for dressing my 5'10" body. I was inspired by what I've seen so far from the posters on this site, and I'm looking forward to learning more from everyone.

hello! i just discovered this website a couple of days ago while searching for some fashion tips, and i just wish i had come here sooner. what a helpful fashion resource!

i am in my late 30s, and i used to have a very strong sense of my own style until a few years ago, when i got pregnant and then gave birth to my first child, and everything went upside down as my body changed, and practicality and comfort took priority. now i'm rediscovering my fashion sense, but i've found that i'm rusty and could use a lot of help navigating the trends and adapting them to my own taste, personality and body type.

Hello all,

After reading the site on-and-off for a few years, I'm taking the leap to join and participate due to a few recent challenges to getting dressed each day

  • a body still recovering from giving birth to my daughter and nursing her for 2+ years (she's 2.5 now and I'm happy to have my body to myself again)
  • the need to be able to run around after said toddler when we're home together, and
  • a career as an attorney in which I spend 3 days a week working from home and 2 days a week in what is a very casual business-casual office (jeans allowed on Fridays)
I'm afraid I've slid too far towards the casual end out of necessity during those first two difficult years of learning to be a parent and working full time. I only recently started the three days at home but that has not helped with the temptation to stay in sweats all day!

Now that I have more time and energy for it, I'd like to put a little more thought into having or defining a personal style, and into figuring out how to maintain that style across the above factors and the busy life of a MOTG.

Hey all!

I found this site a couple days ago, via a friend. I feel like I have a pretty defined style, that I'm mostly happy with, but I don't spend a lot of time or thought on how I look regularly. And yet I can't really put it into words.

I've got an 18 month old, I'm 35. Mom is still a new-to-me full-time job.

I knit.

I love color and natural fibers.

While I'm happy with my style (uniform, basically) when I put in the effort, I think it doesn't fully convey all of who I am — people make wrong assumptions about me and always have.

Hi, I'm Ellis, 38 years old and mother of two. I am 5'8" (173cm) and hover around 64-65kg (around 145 lbs). I am not sure of my body type- I'd say somewhere between a not-very-curvy hourglass and rectangle... but not sure. My legs are long (I usually need jeans with a length of 34) and my torso is short. When I sit next to my 5'0" best friend, we appear to be the same height until we stand!
I am a redhead with very orange hair and brown eyes. Last year I had a color analysis done and was shocked to find out that I was not an "autumn" palette, but a "spring-summer" due to mixed cool and warm skin tones. Since then I've tried to buy more muted spring and summer colors.
I work as a child psychologist and so even though I am 38, I feel I can dress a little more colorfully and fun (i.e. youthful!) rather than reserved... This blog is a great inspiration. I need a lot of help though, because I feel clueless lots of the time.

Hello! I've gotten so used to not looking here when I was looking around that it never occurred to me that I should sign in here. (*facepalm*) Sorry about that!

I'm 37, a hourglass with secondary rectangle tendencies. I'm about 5'9" and about 150 lbs. I have very long limbs, short legs and a big bust, even when I'm not nursing. I'm a homeschooling mom, with three boys. The youngest is reluctantly weaning.

Unlike with my previous pregnancies, my body *seems* to have gone through some permanent changes. I understand that, for some moms, they get their bodies "back" once they've weaned. This is new territory for me, but I'm holding out a glimmer of hope that I don't have to replace my entire wardrobe, clothes and shoes. I've been trying to fill in the gaps with decent quality items, but don't have room in the budget for much of anything just now.

Looking forward to being part of this community!

Hello! I'm a 46 year old SAHM who loves fashion, interior design, and all things pretty. I'm a rectangle shape who longs for the defined waist of an hourglass. I'm 5'3", short waisted and would define my style as modern classic with a touch of tomboy to keep things interesting. I love to travel and greatly admire how French women dress. I hope to one day wear a scarf with as much ease and style as they do!

Hello!

I have reading YLF for over a year now & have gleaned so many pearls of wisdom. It has really helped me look at clothes with a finer eye!

I am 30 yrs old, live in India. I have an hourglass figure that tends to a pear. I wear size 2/4 on top and 4/6 on bottom currently depending on brand. I am 5'5 and have a long torso. I have green eyes, dark brown hair & fair skin that is cool toned.

I really don't know what my style is, other than some insights that I love wearing jackets (despite the hot, humid weather in my city), polka dots, hearts & stripes are my favorite patterns, and I wear far too much black than I should. I also am a recent devotee of pencil skirts & fit and flare dresses. I love the color blue, and have a hard time accessorizing my outfits with things like statement necklaces. I also prefer to have structure/fit in my outfits & feel uncomfortable in loose on loose / fluid fit outfit combinations.

I have already been asking a bunch of questions & have received lovely responses & support from the people here! I am very happy to be here at YLF

Hi, I recently discovered this great site and have been lurking for a month now! I'm 39, married mother of two boys 3y and 5y, and full time aerospace engineer. I have great style aspirations but have trouble executing them! I struggle with balancing looking somewhat professional at work with needing clothes that are wash and wear, and shoes that have to be comfortable and durable for lots of walking and also factory safe. This site has given me a lot to think about. I found myself browsing aimlessly at Ross yesterday and suddenly realized that I had no idea what I really needed or wanted to add to my wardrobe. So I walked out! I think this is my first lesson. looking forward to more

Hi everyone from a long-term lurker! I discovered this site about 18 months ago having come home from a Colour Me Beautiful colour and style session which I had booked up following a couple of bag-lady disasters. I was OK with the colours which suited me but I was not happy with the clothes they suggested I wear with my rugby player shoulders and calves (inverted triangle as I now know...) which to my mind just highlighted the things I was trying to disguise and were not suitable for my lifestyle. I was delighted when I found Angie's tips for dressing the inverted triangle as a lot of the things suggested made much more sense to me. So I have been on a bit of an exploratory sartorial journey over the last 18 months and look forward to maybe a bit of guidance from all you lovely stylish ladies!

Hi! I've been a reader here off and on and now I've come here for some serious study. I really need to address my wardrobe. Its been quite some time since I last felt good about my "style"....early college? I'm 36, wore scrubs to work for several years and when that was no longer an option, developed a sort of (very dull) work "uniform" of my own. Much of my wardrobe is in need of replacement but I know I want to head in a different direction! I just don't know exactly what direction. Still figuring out what my style is.

I'm 5', about 115# and heavy in the thighs. Shortwaisted. Usually about a 2p on top and 4p on bottom, depending on the brand. Ann Taylor is a brand fits me well, and I while do like some things very much, the AT style is a little shinier and sleeker than "me" (and I'd really like more of my pants to be machine washable). I like natural fibers and gravitate to mainly solid colors. I do love stripes, though. I'm cool toned, fair, dark blonde.

I like things kinda simple. I am not comfortable with a lot of layers. Now I pretty much like to wear one thing on top and one thing on bottom (besides the undergarments!), though I'm willing to branch out.

Looking forward to learning a lot here!

I am a fledgling fashionista in need of serious help. I am currently overhauling my entire wardrobe and I came here for knowledge and inspiration. For the first time EVER, and I am 48, I am feeling excited about style. I have a lot to learn and a lot to buy.

Hi ladies! I just discovered this site tonight after googling "tucking vs untucking". I never post anywhere on anything so this is a HUGE leap for me but I feel comfortable here and Greg responded immediately to a contact request I submitted so I feel there are real people behind this virtual community. I'm excited to post my first photo in a few days when I am an "active" member and I'm excited to join the style journey many of us seem to be on here in our 40s!

Lurking for a while and decided to join. I'm a young'n on this site, 22, 5'11 and 145lbs. Thought I was a pear for years except my shoulders manage to nicely balance out my thighs soooo I dunno what I am!

I'm in the process of overhauling my wardrobe and overhauling how I think about what I wear. After lurking on YLF I realized that I have far too many thrifted things I never wear, and clothing which just plain doesn't fit me!

My closet was filled with dark colors, converse, hoodies, badly-fitted jeans, and AE tops for years and years; only recently have I been adding brighter, attention-grabbing colors and textures and I feel a lot happier in them. My style still hovers in some casual range but I gravitate towards boho, but I want a more polished look than straight-up hippy earth child, you know?

Hi all!

I've been reading YLF for a couple of years after I found it on a MeFi thread about fashion blogs, but I finally decided today to start actually trying to join in the forums.

I'm 25, 5'4" and have a straight body type. My shoulders have been getting kind of large lately though because I've been working out a lot, and my waist is pretty high, which often confounds my dressing attempts!

My style varies a lot from kind of formal-ish to goth punk to random college-student looking, but the one consistency is I love things that are really unusual looking! I mostly wear dark colors like black and olive or bright jewel tones - I love high contrast in outfits. I'm not entirely sure what my style-goals are other than continuously evolving my style and keeping it fresh!

Hi everyone. I have no idea how I found YLF over a year ago, but love it. I have always loved style and fashion, but it has been a long road for me. As a teen I would wear anything and everything trendy ( and that was in the '70's) and then went through several different fashion identities as I tried to find the perfect combination of stylish, comfortable, flattering, affordable (more or less) and "me". At age 56 I am getting there. These days I have added age appropriate but not frumpy/old lady to the criteria.

I am a wife, mom of 2 (one grown and on her own) and work full time as an accountant. I enjoy working and it also helps justify buying clothes :).
I am 5'7", slender , brown hair, green eyes. I like classic clothes, but with a modern edge. Prefer solid colors, love boots and sweaters, my favorite color is green. I love reading YLF to see the trends and Angie's outfit creations.

Hi Everyone. I've been reading this site for about a month, and am finally posting. I'm a stay-at-home mom in my upper thirties. The past few months I've been feeling...well...frumpy. So I decided it was time to update my wardrobe. To start, I've been reading a lot on this site and also finding things I like on Pinterest.

I'm not naturally good at putting together outfits, and in the past I bought a lot of individual items but never wore them
because I didn't know how to pair them with other things (what shoes to
go with it, how to layer it, how to accessories, etc.). I'm hoping to learn to put together complete outfits that I feel confident about.

My style is classic, simple, and casual. And my clothes have to be comfy otherwise they will sit in my closet unworn no matter how stylish they are! So my goal is to be stylish and comfortable at the same time.

Nice to meet y'all!

Hi there! After lurking here for years, I decided to join the forum because of the great community and also because I want to start taking and getting feedback on outfit photos and see how others make wardrobe decisions. I'm pretty settled in my style at this point but I most often dress by how an outfit feels and am sometimes surprised that I don't look as great in photos as I felt in person. I'm hoping to strike a better balance there.

In my teens and 20s (in my 30s now) I was a thrift store queen and wore the most colorful, unusual and retro stuff I could find. But it always left me feeling "off." After some introspection, I realized that all my favorite finds over the years weren't the loud, colorful, polyester threads I wore so often but the tailored, feminine, classically-styled pieces.

I'm 5'3" with short legs, long torso and an hourglass figure, and am happiest when I'm wearing comfy yet tailored and well-fitting clothes in a variety of neutrals. I just started a new job that's EXTREMELY casual, so I need to find a way to fit my penchant for polished looks in among folks in jeans and sneaks. I have fussy duck feet so am starting by investing in some clean and comfy flat oxfords.

I think I enjoy fashion even more now that I've honed in on my style, so I look forward to participating in the community!

Hi. I'm Jess. I've recently had a pretty decent weight loss and I'm just (re?)discovering fashion. I'm 37 and a tall hourglass. I wear a uniform at work so I don't really have or need a work wardrobe.

I'm not real sure what my style is - I didn't have one for a while. Maybe casual classic/preppy? Is that a thing?

Off to poke around some more.

Hi, everyone!

I'm Anna, I'm 32, 5'3 with a slight pear shape, and I'm trying to relocate from Pennsylvania to California. I love collecting fashion books and websites, and I had a fabulous time getting my colors done recently. Anyway, my wardrobe is going to get seriously cut and re-worked as I go cross-country. I can't wait to get some advice!

Hi. My name is Regina and I love fashion and style. I have a classic figure, 5'6", 36 c-d top, though I need to lose a bit of weight. I love classic styles. I am now a business owner and software consultant but worked in corporate America [Boeing, General Electric, Rockwell] as a professional for a number of years so I tend to dress in business styles-- even though I now work mostly from home.

I blog about fashion and personal style- amongst other things.

Q...

I havent been around this forum in years! I found you all again via comments on a blog I enjoy. I want to join in on the discussion and perhaps do some WIW posts. I'm 26, married with a 1 year old. I work in an office and am aspiring to a promotion soon. I tend to dress up a notch more than necessary and enjoy my style.

I'm 5'4", 34dd ( still nursing 1-2x a day, working on weaning), 140lbs, and i'm a very curvy shape. I have a defined waist, hips a few inches bigger than my bust, curvy thighs, and a nice leg shape. I have permed brown hair, brown eyes, light olive toned skin and do not tan.

I prefer classic, tailored, elegant, modern clothing with something 'special' with the detailing. My favorite / signature colors are teal blue and bright cobalt blue. Most of my 'special' items come from whitehouseblackmarket and most of my trousers from express.

I'm working on always improving. My eye for fit has really developed over the last few years and I have begun to really hone my style. Eventually my goal is to have a smaller, cohesive, functional wardrobe that suits my needs, taste, and budget. I've made a lot of mistakes over the last few years and have spent far too much with little satisfaction and too high of a cost per wear. I have however made some excellent progress and am much happier!

ETA: a few pictures, nothing recent though. I feel I've improved quite a bit since these. The 1st is just going back to work after having the baby (Jan of this year) and 15+ lbs more than I am right now, the others are early pregnancy and pre-pregnancy. I'm about 5-10 lbs heavier than I was in the last photo and much larger busted.

Hello,
As some of you I lurked here quite frequently and now - finally - I have decided to sign up and post
I am 37, a freelancer working from home and also mother of three - recently I realized that despite a full wardrobe I stick to my jeans ALL of the time Time to change! I hope you will help me in making good choices! Angie, thank you for creating such a place!

Hi everyone! I've been ready this blog for a while now and just finally signed up!

I'm 26, 5'8", and have a figure somewhere between pear and hourglass. I love reading fashion blogs to help me get dressed for both work and the weekend. Recently, I've been feeling like I've been stuck in a fashion rut and keep buying the same styles/pieces ... and inevitably end up feeling like I have nothing to wear ... all the time.

I'm really looking forward to getting some new ideas from Angie and all of you!

Hi friends my name is Jabeen Ali. i am new here i recently join this great community this is great forum to get information i read out all the threads on this forum and get pretty knowledge and also shared my knowledge in this forum....

Hello all - pretty much put my intro in my profile but will say hello again!

I've noticed recently that despite my full closet and full dressers (and I've already switched out my seasonal wear) that I keep going to the same items. I seem to have lost my taste for jeans/slacks and am now in a dress mode, casual or dressy, it doesn't matter.

I love the ideas I'm getting from Angie's posts. Today I wore a sweater with a shirt underneath and the tails out. I know that sounds kind of, well duh!, but it's the shirt and sweater combo that I wouldn't have thought about before without having read Angie's recent blog. I shopped my closet and noticed a blouse I've had for probably at least 15 years, beautiful pattern and color but I never like wearing it by itself. Also pulled out a sweater that I normally wear by itself, it's got a scoop neck and a slight empire line. Put the two together, popped the color and turned back the cuffs on scrunched sleeves and they look adorable!

Hi everyone I have been reading and loving YLF for years. I am 50ish petite and love fashion but need inspiration.
Thanks for the positive vibe throughout this forum so welcoming and accepting

Hi, I'm a newbie here! I'm recently single and recently back in the job market. I'm 5'11, and quite curvy, it's a little hard to dress trying to keep it conservative without jumping over to frumpy. Loving getting to know you all and discuss our closets!
