Hi everyone, I'm Joanne.
I'm very new to the forum as have just joined about 10 mins ago! I am 38 yr old full time mum and I live in Leeds in the UK. I stumbled on YLF when searching for leggings to put together a Micky Mouse costume for my son, of all things!! I am married (10 years) but been with hubby for 16 years altogether, 2 children a boy, 3yrs and a girl 18mths and another on the way! I'm 5'4" tall and about 123lbs. I would describe myself as hourglass shaped, but not for long, ha! I really need some help updating my wardrobe as most of the stuff that is in there hasn't been touched for well over a year(or5). Anyway gotta dash as the little ones need waking from their nap. Chat again soon, x.

Hi Ladies,
My name is Alex, I am a lover of the fashion world, and try to keep up on it as much as I can. I am very new to forums, and blogs, so bare with me as I learn about all of this. I think it is a lot of fun!
I am a mom, I have an 8 year old daughter. I just got re-married, and am loving it. I am a little out of the practice of knowing what to wear. So I am really looking forward to keeping in touch with all of you to help each other out.
I am in my 30's, an hourglass, leaning toward an inverted triangle. My husband and I are very active, we workout everyday, hike, backpack, run, whitewater raft, and any other exciting activities we can find.
Look forward to shopping, and gossiping with all of you=)

Hi!

I'm Katie, from Surrey, England - Mum to 2 beautiful girls - one achingly "with it" 13 year old, and a daft 9 year old, who tries very hard!

I've been trying to improve my style for about a year, and have been blogging my progress and asking advice as I go - not knowing that you guys were here!

I'm a rectangle, I think, with a very short waist and long legs!

Look forward to getting to know you all!

My name is Linda and I am a new member to YLF. I was born and raised in southern california and reside in Orange County. I am far from the Real Housewives of OC, though the places frequented are one's for which I can relate.

I am 44, married, with an 11 year old son, and work full-time in Software Business Strategy for a large public firm. My routine ranges from very casual to formal -- weekend baseball-mom, casual office wear, conference speaker, dinner club, formal holiday gatherings (personal and work-related) and date nights with my husband. I like a polished, put-together, sophisticated, approachable style that can be kicked up in any direction, coming through both casually and during work. If you have ever seen Lipstick Jungle or Cashmere Mafia or even Charlotte in Sex & the City, those are the styles I wish I could attain.

I used to feel 40's is the new 30's, but in the last last several years I have noticed a perceptible difference for which I am referred. I fully embrace my age-- the key for me is to be realistic about it.

I am 5'7", size 8, hourglass. I tend towards fitted, stream lined clothing. I feel my casual style is a bit frumpy and need the most work.

Here is a picture on a work day.

I hope to find at YLF a way to find my style. I am looking for constructive feedback and suggestions. I thought I start with a week of daily outfits and go from there.

Hello! I'm Kym and I love fashion!! I've been reading fashion blogs & forums for quite a while, but only yesterday came upon YLF. This seems to be the most involved site for real people that I've found.

I'm 42 but thanks to my very petite frame and some awesome DNA from my mom, I don't look a day over 30 (or so I've often been told). Because of this and the fact that I don't feel a day over 21, I struggle with dressing my age - not sure if I should dress my chronological age or to my 30ish appearance.

My wardrobe consists of classic staples mixed with trendy pieces that create my personal style. I have a fettish for boots, bags, hats & jewelry (not necessarily in that order). I've just recently started to gravitate toward scarves, something that I only briefly experimented with in the 80's.

Did I mention that I love fashion?

Hi,
I'm Melody and I know nothing about fashion. I haven't bought new clothes since my junior year of high school. I'm 21 now and just starting college after being the caretaker for my grandmother for 3 years. Clothes have been about functionality and comfort for me for a long time, but now that I'm stepping out into the "real world" I really want to change that.

I want style and I know what I like but I have no idea how to apply it to myself. I absolutely love the 1950's. Everything from the glamor and glitz of Hollywood to the kitschy housewife dresses. I love pinup/ rockabilly fashion. And in my earlier years when I did have somewhat of a fashion sense I was a punk.

I'm a pear/hourglass shape. Very much a plus size (Dress size 20) but very short. I have a small bust for my size as well. I have a really long and deep scar on my right side (right where my waist is) from a kidney transplant. It gives me a really funny shape because anything that is supposed to sit on my waist is always uneven. Ihave a lot of tattoos that I don't mind showing off (9 of them are on my feet!) so I love wearing ballet flats and shirts with low backs and v-necks to show them off. My hair color is constantly changing and so are my eyes. And... here's the picture:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/4.....947462798/

Don't be fooled, that outfit was put together by a friend of mine as we were going to a wedding. But it's the only full-length(ish) photo of me that is anywhere near decent.

Hi,

My name is Cyndi and I've loved fashion for as long as I can remember. I'm 49 years old (as of today, yuk!), single Mom with two amazing teenagers (daughter age 14, son 17). Because of some serious health issues, I haven't worked outside of the house since '99. Prior to that, I was a paralegal/executive assistance for close to 20 years. I do as much volunteer work as possisble, the rest of the time is spent with my kids. I'm in a relationship, though he lives 300 miles away, so our time together is limited.

I lived in the burbs of Chicago til I was 37, then moved to the rural comminity I live in now (dragged here by my ex, kicking and screaming...j/k). I've had to re-invent my fashion self dramatically as heels, skirts and blazers didn't fit well into my new lifestyle and people teased me because I wore make-up every day, even if I didn't leave the house. It's been a challenge and taken me this long to finally get it down to a classic casual. AFter my divorce, I moved to the largest city in the county (the city being 6k strong), so it's a little closer to my comfort level as opposed to the town of 350 people I originally lived in when we relocated.

I'm 5'5, 130 lbs. I have a boy shape, straight up and down. My legs are thin and my rear end non-existent. My waist is maybe 2" smaller than my hips...needless to say, it ain't easy dressing me.

I have to stretch every penny to dress as I'd like, so I'm the Queen of clearance racks and resale shops. I have a good eye, so I tend to get the best buy. My motto is, if the store isn't losing $ on my purchase, I shouldn't be buying it.

It'll be so nice to interact with real people in my fashion hobby...typically I scour the net for articles on fashion...now I can get real opinions from real people who share my passion. Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Hi everyone. My name is Melinda (Mimi is my nickname). I'm 36 years old, recently married (6 months tomorrow!) and I've been lurking on this blog for months. I've gotten so into it, I decided to read every single blog post over two weekends.

I'm not sure how to describe my style, except to say it's pretty safe. I identified as a modern classic, but I'm not sure that's the style that really suits me, as that seems a bit safe to me as well. I do LOVE color, and I want to incorporate some brighter colors into my wardrobe. I am NOT a fan of black, though I have one black handbag, and one pair of black trousers, but that's it.

I recently lost weight after the wedding, and I'm purging my too big clothes and starting over from scratch. I'm on a pretty tight budget, and I'm hard to fit, and picky about what I buy, so I keep buying what works, just in different colors and fabrics. I don't have a picture of myself in a fitted top and jeans just yet..but here's a picture of myself and my girls at my wedding.

Looking forward to getting to know the ladies on here!

Hi everyone. My name is Nwanne, pronounced one-nay. Am Nigerian, (see how far youlookfab has gone?) and have been lurking around for a year. Finally summoned up courage to post. You girls are all lovely. I am 31 and married with 3 kids. I live in jeans, have about 12 pairs but have recently gotten sick of them. I would like to wear more dresses and skirts. I am about 5' 9'', broad shouldered and I love wearing heels. I haven't taken a full picture but here are a couple: http://s760.photobucket.com/al.....anneamaka/

Hi!

I'm Bitsy... wife to a great hubby, mom to a 15-month-old, and freelance writer. I'm 35 and have started struggling with my weight (thanks in part to pregnancy and part to Papa Johns pizza). When I was younger, I was 5', 100 lbs and pretty proportional, so I looked good in almost anything I wore. These days, I am still 5'. Unfortunately, I am also 20 pounds heavier. So I've really been struggling with fashion these days, since I am always very self-conscious of my tummy and trying to hide it.

I am definitely more of a casual gal (Hubby says I am American Casual from the Lucky Manual, but that I would look good as a Bombshell). My typically daily wear is jeans and a tee. I am not fashion forward at all, although I love great shoes and an awesome bag. I live in a very rural area that is about a decade behind trends in terms of fashion.

My fashion icon is probably Angelina Jolie... but that could be because I pretty much live in black. Not in a "goth" way, but in a I-think-black-is-slimming-and-it-goes-with-anything way.

Looking forward to more fashion chat!

Hi, I'm Stefka. I'm 39, single, and have been lurking for the 15 months or so. During this time I lost some weight and dropped a few sizes, and realized (like many) that I've been hiding in drab, shapeless clothes. So I've been updating my wardrobe on a budget, mainly by thrifting (I'm addicted!!) and TJ Maxx/bargain sales. I live in Northern New England on a dirt road and rarely visit big cities, and my style leans toward rugged/outdoorsy casual, though I love to find an excuse to dress up for a night out. I'm 5'5 and my main constraints are 1) I am shortwaisted, broad-shouldered and broad-hipped, so I struggle to define my waist (yet don't like to wear a belt - they're uncomfortable and my clothes ride up if I sit down) and 2) I have bad feet (overpronation) and either need to wear shoes/boots with custom orthotics or VERY comfortable and supportive heels (2-1/2" sturdy heel) -- orthotics are necessary if I am walking or standing.

Thanks, Angie, for creating the space for this supportive community and sharing your expertise with us! I've learned so much, and am screwing up the courage to contribute, maybe I will even post some photos!

Hi, I'm Lori. I recently turned 40, I am married and am Mommy to two wonderful little boys.

My shape is somewhat hourglass, but maybe more pear shaped. I am 5'1" and a bit short-waisted. I feel like I'm just now getting back to being me after a 2+ year hiatus. After having my second child (our little surprise) in Jan. '08, I felt so overwhelmed at trying to figure out the new family dynamic that I could not be bothered to think about one more thing, which left me wearing clothes that didn't fit well, were drab and did not represent who I am. I now feel like I'm back, and I'm ready to get back to feeling good about how I look and what I wear. I love dressing for Fall, I'm a dresses/skirts and boots gal, even though I live in Southern California. I work in at a large law firm, but we are more business casual these days than stuffy law firm. I can get away with wearing long tunics or a dress over leggings with boots on Fridays.

I am learning so much for YLF and a couple of other choice fashion blogs, and am having so much fun getting dressed lately. I've done a bit of shopping this Fall, as well as learning to re-fashion some great pieces of my wardrobe that are not so drab.

This is me (and my little guy): <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v212/leagan/What%20I%20Wore%20Today/MeBrody2.jpg" border="0" alt="Disney - Oct. 2009">

Hi everyone, I'm Colleen. I've been lurking for a while but really love this site so I decided to sign up and join the fun

I'm 28 (29 in February) and married; no kids. I live in a suburb of Philadelphia, close enough to get into the city whenever I want. I adore clothes and shopping. Unfortuntatey for the last 4 years I've been working as an office manager in a manufacturing plant. The place is filthy so I just can't wear nice clothes here. As a result, some of my style has started to slip by the wayside. I still love fashion but just don't have anywhere to apply it anymore. Even though my husband works in the nightlife scene, I burned myself out on it pretty early on and don't party too much, so I don't even have many places to wear the cute going-out clothes I do have. They just end up sitting in my closet. I also own my own business part-time which keeps me pretty busy on nights and weekends. One of my New Year's resolutions is to get out more, not even necessarily to a bar or a club, but just out of the house to experience things (and wear all of my poor neglected party clothes)!

I'm 5'5" and classify myself as a mix of apple and inverted triangle. My favorite items are jeans - a slight flare for everyday wear, bootcuts or skinnies for special occasions - dresses, boots, a nice reliable denim jacket, scarves, and funky jewelry. I tend to buy my tops in neutral colors and then dress them up with a bright scarf or crazy piece of jewelry. I also love bags, but what girl doesn't? My favorite right now is a pumpkin-colored Guess satchel, patent-leather mock croc, that I got at DSW for $22 (marked down from $98). I love a bargain!!

Anyway, that's me. I hope to find a decent picture of myself to post at some point. Even my avatar is almost two years old, but it's one of the most flattering pics of my face I could find!

It's nice to meet you all

Hi everyone, I've been reading this blog for a while and I just joined the forum. I'm Tricia, 33, from the suburbs of Washington, DC. I'm a writer/editor who works 4 days a week - the 5th day I'm at home with my two little girls, ages 3 and 1. I spent most of the last few years pregnant, postpartum, or nursing, and now I'm ready to find a style again. I used to dress very creatively in my late teens, but I feel like I totally lost that ability somewhere in college, and now I'm stuck in black dress pants/bright top (work) and jeans/Tshirt (home) hell. I have trouble mixing colors and fabrics and figuring out what pieces work together, and I want to learn more about how to use accessories.

I've been reading a lot of style blogs lately and I'd say my style deep down is Modern Classic. I'm a short (5'2") hourglass with a little postpartum extra around the middle (hopefully not for long).

Nice to meet all of you!

Hi ya'll! My name is Elizabeth, I'm 31, a SAHM, married with two little girls, and we live in a small town in Arkansas. Like so many others I've been lurking around for a while. ; ) This forum is so much fun that I find myself in danger of becoming addicted! Anyway, I'm about 5'4", slim, and an hourglass shape. I love style and shopping and with two little girls I probably do way too much of the latter. One of my favorite places to shop is thrift stores (which is probably a good thing since we are on a limited budget!), so I've really enjoyed seeing how other ladies here are putting together their thrifty finds! I would say my favorite style is classic with a modern element thrown in. I do love wearing dresses and have found new ways to do so since visiting YLF!

Thank you, Angie, for YLF! It's a pleasure to meet everyone!

Hi everyone!

My name is Therese, currently 24 & living in Portland. People usually point out two things about me once they first meet which usually is cute shoes & my height. I'm 5ft minus a couple inches (ha ha!) so wearing heels is usually what I'm seen in. As for a body type, I'm not exactly sure. I have a smaller top but have a bigger bottom but the top seems to fluctuate, if that makes any sense! Let's see. My style icon is none other than Audrey Hepburn. I just LOVE everything she wore in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" & she was always so classy & tasteful. What I would do for that Givenchy dress! I used to be a pants-only gal when it came to work but ever since finding more feminine, flirty & fun dresses & skirts I cannot get enough of them for work. I think the prints & fabric of dresses & skirts are no longer stuffy (I used to think they were) & no matter what shoes or boots you have, you can always mix & match.

So that's a little about me & where fashion is in my life at the moment. I love seeing this site & reading everyone's bio's - everyone seems so sweet & have their own personal style! Can't wait to talk more with everyone!

Hi -
I have lurking here for a couple of month -- it's definitely time to join!!
I so appreciate the words of style wisdom Angie imparts and the inspiration I get from the other members.

I am a Minnesota native (yuck at this time of year!), 51 years old, work tutoring high school math and substitute teaching, and over the past few years felt that need to to up my fashion quotient. (Renata put it so accurately when she referred to the 'the middle-aged invisible women slump'.)

Thanks to you all, I have delved into some skinny jeans, leggings, more frocks, quite a few more boots (to the bewilderment of my husband), and more interesting accessories including pearls and watches!

Thanks to Angie and you all, I actually feel good about myself (and I think that's a pretty significant statement for a middle aged woman these days).

I'm looking forward to being a part of this inspiring, encouraging community.
Thanks again,
Sara R.

I read about so many intressting people in this forum. It´s amazing how different stories these people have to tell. Unfortunitly, I´m to bad in writing and talk about me. But if someone wanne know something about me, he or she should have a look on my Website: http://www.tenmostimportant.de/ . There you gonne find my intrests, typified in the different websites I like. You gonne find some really intressting linktipps.

Hi, I'm Dusty and I'm brand new to this forum. I'm 30 (well, actually I'll be 31 this week), live in central IL and stay at home with my two kids - a boy who will be 5 in February and a girl who will be 2 in March. I'm 5'10" with long legs and a high waist (not long, high - there's just an average distance between my bust & my waist but my rise is very high). I think I'm probably somewhere between a pear and an hourglass figure-wise, but it's still changing a bit since I've recently lost 23 pounds and I still have 12 more to lose.

Currently, I'd call my style frumpy mom, but I'm really wanting to find a real style now that I'm finally losing that baby weight.

I recently started sewing and I love it, so I'm sure I'll be making some of my wardrobe myself.

Hi my name is Jill, I am a new member to YLF and love it! I have always been interested in fashion and body shape, but have never really figured out my own. I am 25, engaged, and live in Canada. I worked as a flight attendant for two years, and have been in school constantly since high school. Because of this, my wardrobe has mostly casual clothes and it is definitely time to start amping up my look with accessories and more interesting pieces. Thank goodness for all your advice and ideas, I'll be soaking it up from now on!

Hi, I'm Natalie. I'm 37 and live in AZ. I think I've always been interested in fashion and style, but lately I'm realizing that I need to step out of my 'mom-iform' (you know, a uniform for moms?) and start wearing clothes that flatter my body and show more personality. I'm 5'2" and definitely pear shaped. I've had this shape since before puberty (I remember my mother putting darts in the waistbands of my pants when I was a little girl!) and have always had a hard time finding clothing that fits and looks fashionable, especially as a teenager. Because of that, I think I've always played it safe. Many of my friends who have children the same ages as my children are 8 - 10 years younger than I am, and I'm starting to feel self conscious and old around them.
I'm still trying to figure out my style and how to dress age appropriately.

Hi, I'm Kelly...I can't remember how I found Angie's website, but I signed up for the email updates a few months ago, and just joined today. I am 51, 5'10", I am a size 14-16 on the bottom and 12 on the top, definitely a pear shape. I used to be about 15-20 lbs thinner but over the last few years menopause issues have taken over! I always have been pear-shaped, more so now, and my New Year's goals are to lose 10-15 lbs and fit back into a size 12 on the bottom, 10 on the top! I work as a legal assistant for a law firm and have had the same job for 27 years. We can dress up at work if we want to, or go business casual, and Fridays we can wear nice jeans. I usually wear nice pants and jackets during the work week, but I want to get more into dresses, although with my shape they are hard to find. I love handbags and over the past four years have collected three Chanel bags, two are vintage and one is a few years old...I love the look of Chanel. I would say I am probably a classic but also have a little boho and romantic side to what I like. I try to save all year to go to the Nordstrom Anniversary sale in July to buy work clothes. I have been married for 21 years, have three adult stepkids and six grandkids via my husband's kids. I love accessories and finding fun scarves and necklaces too. I enjoy fashion and fashion magazines and blogs and websites too.

Hello everyone! I'm Sarah, an 18 year old university student from Alberta, Canada. I'm working towards becoming an English teacher, and I love reading, going to films, and music. I recently became interested in fashion, and I want to be an impeccably polished woman like Carla Bruni Sarkozy if I ever choose to grow up. I'm 5'7 1/2" and about 140lbs, although most of that is concentrated around my waist (New Years Resolution, here we come)! I'm working on developing my own personal style, and obtaining classic pieces to define my wardrobe.

Hi everyone!

I'm Amanda, I've been reading Angie's block for a few months now after stumbling across it completely out of the blue, and I've been stalking the forums nearly as long. I was born and grew up on the south-west coast of Australia, but for the time being I'm living in London, UK, with my boyfriend (and his parents, for the next month or two, while we save some money!). I'm 25 and work in market research.

My biggest hobby is craft- I mainly sew and do embroidery, but I do a small amount of other crafts- paper craft and felting, for example. I absolutely adore animals, and at the moment we're living with 2 little kittens- Freddie, a white and brown tabby, and Ben, a black cat with hazel eyes. At home in Australia, my family have a gorgeous 8 year old golden retriever named Indie.

Style-wise, I'm an hourglass, although I'm carrying a lot of extra weight at the moment (or, ever since I left home and went to university... so quite a while now!) that leads me tending towards apple. I *think* I have fit the Clear Spring colour guide.

I can confidently say I have very little style at the moment. It's not that I don't know what I think looks good, I do. But since I was a poor uni student, I don't think I'm in the habit of shopping, and when I do, I get frustrated and give up. As a result, I've been *just* maintaining a wardrobe good enough to cover me and take me to work- there's very little "fashion" involved. But there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Since we're living with my boyfriends parents, I have a reasonable amount of disposable income available to me this month (and maybe next), which I plan to use to start out again. Tomorrow, I'm going shopping... this time with a plan. I'll have a haircut, then buy new bras, then move onto some more basics- jeans and some well fitting work clothes.

I'm excited- and I'll need the YLF girls to help me work out what looks good, and what should be ditched!

Hi, I'm Janet in Virginia. I've been reading this blog for a while, and there are some great tips! I am 50 years old, and I need to be careful not to dress like an old lady or a teenybopper.

Hi
my name is Joy and I'm a stay at home mom to five, American living in Indonesia. We are currently in the States for a few weeks, but the majority of our time is spent in Indo.
I need lots of fashion advice and I'm hoping to find some help here!
Blessings to all

I've been posting for a few weeks, but haven't introduced myself. I'm 38 and live in Madison, Wisconsin. I used to be fairly stylish when I was in my 20s, but somewhere along the way I feel off the wagon! Part of this was because I was getting over a rough time in my life, I think I retreated into a shell. My 30s were pretty boring style-wise. Even though I have a professional job I skimped on clothing, hardly ever shopping and doing most of it at Old Navy or Target.

I don't even remember how I found this site, but in the last year or two I've gotten more interested in style. I'm a bookworm, so naturally I checked out library books about dressing better! I like watching What Not to Wear. I must be evolving, because the outfits used to look ridiculous to me and now most of them look great!

I set a budget for myself of $100 a month, to prevent underspending as much as overspending. But since I've found this site a fear of shopping hasn't been that much of a problem!

I'm still figuring out my style, but I like clean lines, blues, greens, earth tones, slightly retro styles.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone! So far I'm really impressed by the stylish, friendly people here!

Hey Everyone!

I'm Meg. I'm a freelance writer from Atlanta. I'm 32, single and no kids, but I use the "Mom on the Go" outfits all the time. Hey, a good idea is a good idea no matter who it was originally for, right? I love this blog and check it several times a day. I look forward to meeting you all!
