Who wears UGGs?

I hope this isn't like asking who wears co-ordinated velour jogging suits, but really, who is wearing Uggs these days? Like the slipper style ones that are fuzzy inside (not the Cortonas and suchlike). They are everywhere in shops, and I am tempted to get a pair to use as slippers, but seems kind of expensive for slippers. I never got a pair when Paris Hilton was wearing them because they seemed impractical - if it's cold enough to wear furry boots, it's probably going to be cold and wet, and suede boots are not practical in that weather. Also because Paris Hilton was wearing them.
Please help me understand.

The only UGGs I wear are the all leather ones. I have never owned a slipper pair of them, although I do see them everywhere!

I had a pair that I used as slippers but it is was a very slippery slope. They are so cozy and warm that I found myself wearing them to the grocery store, to soccer practice, etc. Fortunately (or not) they got a hole in the toe and I never replaced them. I've been tempted but I know myself and I'd probably wear those all winter--so I left them at the Rack!

ETA: They are still very popular with my kids. They are everywhere in middle school and high school.

I think they originated here in Australia, and became popular overseas when Paris Hilton wore them.
Here they are still considered in the category of wearing a track-suit in public, and not particularly fashion-foward.

I read an article the other day that said they started getting popular as footwear for surfer dudes. Paris and Gywneth would turn me away from the traditional style but they do seem perfect for slippers.

Not I; however, I do remember a few years when I was wearing them during a Montana winter. During a trip running errands one day, I stopped at the wine store and ran into a friend. We stood and visited for a few minutes and at one point my friend looked down and said, "Uh, you have your boots on the wrong feet . . ." I looked down and I could have sworn I was a very tall two year old with her boots on the wrong feet!! Now how fashionable, I ask you, are boots you can mistakenly wear on either foot? Come to think of it, that must be why they had buttons on the outside of the shaft, to tell which way the boots should be worn. Uggs are Ugh -- they remind me of cartoon shoes.

I can attest to the surfer boys in my high school in LA wearing them with shorts in '87 and '88. I never knew Paris Hilton wore them, to be honest. I have a pair of fake Uggs I wear in the snow in Tahoe. They're great for getting out into the elements with a quick pull on over your socks - no lacing and such like the Sorels. Kinda like the snowy version of flip flops. On and gone!

Me. I wear several versions. I have the Cortonas, and a version of these in grey suede:

I do, in the house. If I lived somewhere cold I'd do the regular bootier kind, if they were comfy..

Una, those ones look great. Pretty far from the Paris Hilton fluffy ones (except for the furry ones, but they still appear to have a very substantial sole). I just remember the ones I tried (about ten years ago, now) seemed very vulnerable and soft, like a sheepskin coat on your feet. I did not mean to offend any Ugg wearers, but to tell the truth, I don't see a lot of traditional fluffy ones on this forum. I will be looking for them when the snow really gets flying! Wear 'em if you've got 'em!

No offense taken! I will post an outfit the next time I wear them... which is not going to be for a while, as we still do not have snow. I think the fat furry ones are cute with skinnies and a big fuzzy sweater. Very cabin casual cozy.

I admit to having a black pair that I wear around the house, to the mailbox and around the yard playing with the dog and for occasional emergency trips to the hardware store or grocery in the dead of winter. That being said I do feel as if I've been caught wearing my slippers when I see someone I know!! - Not that anyone probably notices with the gianormous knee length ivory down puffer coat that usually accompanies them on said trips!!

Una, on the Amorets you posted, how comfortable is the wooden outsole over the course of a long day?

Please don't tell me that classic UGGs are warm; I've been running cold, and bf has a poison eye for the brand as a whole.

I like the actual slipper ones. No temptation to wear them out of the house. And for regular wear I love all the kinds that look like normal boots but have a shearling surprise inside. Two pair of those for me!

I don't have that exact style - I have the similar ones from year or two ago that Kellygirl posted today in her outfit post (the Lynnea) They are really quite comfy over the day and I don't wear them often enough!

I do - after seeing twenty-something dancers wear them to and from my ballet class. They are a guilty pleasure for me - ugly and out of fashion - but oh so warm and comfy. The dancers wear them with skinny jeans and look wonderful (of course)

People tend to wear them here in NYC with some skinnies for a casual look. I'm not particularly fond of them (plus I think taking care of them is a hassle because of the wet and often salty conditions NYC is in during the colder times).

Can't say much else about anything else though, sorry!

Every single high school girl I see has on a pair of Uggs or Ugg look alikes. They are especially fond of the chocolate brown and tan coloured ones. Lots and lots of arena moms have them as well - at least in my neck of the woods. They are very warm and cozy. They are pretty fab in our climate.

Uggs are things people love to hate on, and it seems to carry social/fashion currency to say you think they are ugly or would never wear them. IMO, however, Uggs are a lot better looking than many other "sensible" shoes, and they are certainly on par with other snow boots (most of which are built for practical concerns and not fashionable ones). The main part is that they are cozy and comfortable. I currently have a meniscus tear and Uggs are one of the less painful things I can wear.

I have a pair of the ugly ones, which I may or may not wear to go around the corner to drop off my dry cleaning or to get a cuppa. They are not as popular as they used to be years ago.

I have had a pair for five or so years (the suede boot version with fuzzy inside), and I wear them regularly, but mainly as footwear to and from trailheads (trail running, skiing, climbing) or in a mountain town while traveling for skiing/climbing/etc, and when car camping, assuming it is not a total downpour. They've held up miraculously well, despite me not putting much effort into taking care of them. In the city, I occasionally slip them on to take the dog out real quick, but don't otherwise trot around in them.

Interesting to see all you Ugg owners coming out of the closet! OK, I may just put them on my wish list, and will consider wearing them ironically (or not!).

I have some black ones I wore as slippers around the house when it was really cold & my mom borrowed them as they were great for post foot surgery.

Around here many girls from 13-22 or so wear them. And some of the teenagers actually wear the slip on slippers as "shoes" to school.

I am wearing $15 Walmart Ugg rip-offs right this minute! ONLY in the house though. Since we moved to a new place with hardwood floors, I needed something warmer and more substantial than my old socks with grippy bits on the bottom. My whole ankles and calves get cold easily too, so this was a perfect solution.

But I have never once worn them out anywhere. If I feel tempted, I give myself a stern lecture along the lines of, "Oh, so you think it might be OK to wear those to the store, do you? Well then why don't you just wear your pajams pants out too, like all those other people do? And at that point, why bother combing your hair?" LOL. And then I put on some real clothes, because that's a slope I'm not sliding down.

See, I think this is all about environmental context. Where I live you can go to the store in your ski gear. No one will look twice. And that makes sense for where I live. I would not think twice about wearing classic Uggs out on an errand, provided it was casual and I was wearing non-PJs. Maybe we are just at the bottom of the slope!

Yeah... I'm trying to think of any tactful way to word this... in our area, the people i most frequently see in Uggs do only wear them with pajama pants. In fact, pajama pants, stained holey sweatshirts, and a cloud of BO are all pretty common amongst the folks I encounter at the store around here. As a result, I have developed what borders on a phobia that I will somehow not notice myself sliding down into a state where I don't even bother to put on real pants anymore. I think I'm way more neurotic about it than is probably necessary. Ha ha.

I have a pair of Ugg 'Coquette' slippers - and these have never been worn out of the house. I don't have any Ugg brand boots or anything along those lines.

You know what though? The Ugg Coquette slippers are the best slippers I've ever owned - amazingly comfortable and really well made. Top quality and super comfortable. They are pretty expensive for slippers, and yet - they are the best of the best. Nothing comes even close to the quality and comfort of my Ugg slippers!
