Today every model who has been photographed a few times in Page 3 parties is often referred to as supermodel either by themselves or by some sections of media. It would be interesting to know when a model can actually be referred to as a supermodel. Is it based on how many popular models she/he models for on press or television ? Or is it a title given to showstoppers at Fashion Weeks? But then today the showstopper is often a film star /television star, a celebrity in their own light, adding extra star value to a fashion show. Then would it be safe to say that a supermodel is someone chosen to be the face of a luxury or high fashion brand ? I remember the term supermodel was first used for divas like Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, decades back. I think a supermodel is someone who has become a style icon with a big fan following for their distinctive sense of style, irrespective of which brands they model for. What do you think ?
