White Shoe Woes - YouLookFab Forum

Hello Fabbers!
So, I have been on the hunt for the Great White/Pewter Shoe and I have been coming up empty.

Ok, well, I did have those $14 special from Walmart for about a week, but my foot did not feel secure in them, unfortunately.

I returned them and found these clunkers at Naturalizer. Not entirely happy with them, I went back to Walmart to repurchase the shoes I'd returned--only to discover that they no longer existed in my size! I found these rather delicate ones instead. I figured I was set--but they're really not all that comfy for walking--whereas the Naturalizers are great.

Here's why I am bringing this to you: when I look at the pictures of me wearing each shoe (and the same outfit) the delicate Walmart shoes do not look as though they have enough "weight" to carry me--kwim? They are just the wrong scale, or something, for my body. The white shoes with their wider bands look more substantial and "balance" my heftiness.

Do you agree?
Am I overthinking this?

If I could only keep one which would you recommend? (PS I am trying to hold my summer wardrobe to 33 pieces--and keeping both shoes will push me to 38!)

PS: I am also trying out some styling options--so any comments on that welcome, too (please!)

I agree and find the same thing personally too. I'm a bigger girl and I think we can carry the chunkier / thicker shoes as they do balance as you mentioned. But for me I would choose the shoe that is most comfortable. Is it just the 33 thing holding you back? Or is it budget? One was more expensive?

I prefer the white shoes - it does look like a more substantial shoe.

Naturalizers do hold up better and those look like they have more foot padding. Walmart shoes tend to not hold up to wear and tear, especially in the rain (frequent here).

Thanks, ladies. The Naturalizers are chunky: but there's a lot going on with the black band and the hat, etc.

abc: the chunkier shoe just feels orthopedic to me. At this point in my shoe shopping, I am a little desperate for a white/pewter summer sandal. Part of my concern is cost--part of it is the number of items in my closet. I need a brake--and yet, yesterday, I even tried on a sleeveless top with coral in it! Fortunately, it was too big under the arm.

You know, ladies, I am going to keep both. I have a wedding to go to in two weeks and the thinner Walmart shoes will be fine for that--in fact--better than the Naturalizers. I am starting a second thread to get your help to accessorize it.

Any other styling/outfit combo comments more than welcome. Specifically, is there enough white in this top to go with the white jeans--or does the black band on the top defeat all?

I don't think the black band defeats the outfit. Without the band, the top might feel too short. If you are truly in doubt you could try pinning it up to see what that looks like.

I hope you get a lot of use from both pairs of sandals. The Naturalizers should last multiple seasons.

Greycat--thanks! The upside is that now I can pack my white pants for our trip to Vancouver Island and have something comfy to put my feet in as we're out and about being all touristy. That's a relief.

My vote is for the white sandal because (1) it looks good with the rolled jeans and (2) you find it comfy. And I've always liked the look of a black top with the white jeans; to my eye, it is a clean, graphic, sophisticated look, especially the way you've paired it with a white hat and black band. Fab outfit!

My vote is for the thicker in pic 2. But I also don't want you to settle their will end of summer sales soon. Don't feel as if you have to check some box off in fashion and it's great to see that your having playtime.

I have no opinion on the shoe, but I wanted to congratulate you on trying to keep you wardrobe to 33 pieces. Yay for you!!! I too try to manage on ~33 pieces per season. I absolutely love the challenge of it.

I like both shoes! I know what you mean about balancing the frame of the shoes to your own frame -- I do that, too. However, the silver ones just look dressier and refined. I think you'd love 'em with the dress.

I believe in closet moderation, but am a sucker for sandals, even in Chicago. I have a basket of them, athough most of them are several years old!

I think you look great in both but my preference is for the white ones. I think they will look great with jeans as well!
Great idea to keep both - for the wedding outfit. Have fun on your trip. Definitely pack the white pants.

I understand your point about the more substantial look of the white sandal. However what I noticed more in comparing the 2 is that the white just appears to be a better fit on your foot overall. I think the silver look fine if viewing them alone but side by side I prefer the white on you. However the pewter does look dressier so if there is room for both they will be useful in serving different purposes.

Black and white is a favorite pairing of mine so I love the outfit!

LadyWone--I am having fun. I almost wish we were not going on vacation so soon so I can have even more fun! Please don't worry, all the boxes are checked off now (I think!)
Ceit--thanks! You endorsement will help whenever I tell myelf it is an "orthopedic" shoe. My grandmother wore Naturalizersand swore by them--so it is a bit of a stigma.
