White or neon sneakers?

My Converse need replacing. I'm trying to decide between classic white Cons (dainty, high top or classic - probably not the wedge ones, as this will be hard-working playground shoes and I need plenty of stability for hoisting my incredibly active 27-lb toddler on uneven ground) and bright Onitsuka Serranos (magenta/aqua or bright blue/pink, or maaaaybe some kind of neon yellow, which is not pictured).

These would be primarily for ultra-casual wear.

Thoughts? I'm also open to alternate suggestions.

Well, I am an Urban Romantic Peacock, so I vote for the colour! I love the blue with pink stripes. But, part of my preference might be that I just plain have never found Cons very comfortable for long wear and mine always get smelly. The blue won't show the dirt as much either, and will probably give you better foot support. Practical and pretty!

Well, if they are essentially playground shoes, I vote for something that will not get ratty in three wears (so probably not pristine white canvas) and also something that will give you support. But keep in mind that I am absolutely unable to wear Cons without some kind of major insert. My arches hate a flat shoe.

My vote would go to an Ecco sneaker. They have some really fun ones this year.

I like both but not sure about the purpose. The white cons will have a hard go of it at the playground. I also cannot wear them because they hurt my feet too much. I think I would go with something that can support you and stand up to the dirt, wet etc and still allow you to chase your wee fellow around. Have you considered any adidas - they have adidas.ca - lots of options there. I find they are tts.

I really like that silver pair, too. And Ill check out the Adidas site, Glory, thanks - I didnt know they had a .ca option. My toddlers a girl, BTW, but shes stronger and more active than most boys her age - I got quite a workout staying on top of her at playgroup today! We both broke a sweat.

CC, the pink version of those Merrells are fun! They may be a little more gear than I want, but then again, I need something I can wear on trails and when camping.

I have the same misgivings about white. If my budget allows, I may get those for the less dirty outings, but they probably need to go to the second tier of my priority list.

Although I like the ones Suz posted I think the pink or blue ones you posted would be very fun for your motg life. Would the color of any of these work with the rest of your casual clothes?

celia, I agree! Both of them would work with the majority of my casual clothes, I think. I should really do a proper inventory, though, just to be sure.

My heart goes to those pink ones. I have some beloved Onitsuka tigers and they have more support than Converse.

Scarlet, what colour are your tigers, and do you have any pics? How have you been enjoying your purple sneakers? They really stuck in my mind when you posted about them, and that's why I've been thinking about these vibrant ones.

I love white Cons, but in the playground they would get dirty too soon. I like the blue ones you posted, and I also second Suz' idea of the silver Eccos.

Why not both? In my opinion, tigers only work with pants, whereas all stars are more versatile.

I have Cons and Tigers and love them both! I have a pair of Birkenstock blue footbeds that I wear in both pairs to give me a little bit of arch support. Both options are great for MOTG!

Actually the purple ones were much more vivid in real life but worked out great. They are suprisingly easy to combine into outfits and I get compliments in them. My Onitsukas are cream (the suede part), teal, and orange (the accent stripes). They are also pretty easy to dress. I actually would like to get some white Supergas now, but they are pretty low on the priority list since I have been buying new back-to-work (sob) clothes, and besides that there is no evidence here so far that warm weather will ever be arriving again.

I can attest the ones that Scarlet has linked to. I have 2 of those - both black leather one with silver stripes, the other white with a coloured heal. They are my playground, walking, chasing kids, errands, everything shoe.

Thanks for the links, all! Angie, thanks for chiming in. I know you love your Converse, so I was wondering what you'd think. I'm going to see if I can find somewhere here that stocks Onitsuka Tigers so I can try them on in person before ordering.

Sidenote: unfortunately, Adidas is now on my permanent no-fly list. Appropriating First Nations art and culture, especially when it's stuff from where I live, is a hulksmash issue for me.

annaj, that would help a lot, thank you! I usually wear an 8 or an 8.5 My feet are really an 8 but they're wide, hence why I'm often in an 8.5

I was able to check out some shoes in person at the Bay, but they were so slow and understaffed (as usual) that my kids melted down before I could try anything on.

I'm kind of leaning to a super bright sneaker for walks and serious playground time, and a light neutral pair for less messs days (like playgroup, city errands, walking on streets instead of the trails, etc.). Maybe pale grey or something like that instead of white?

Those new balances are classics. I've bought them at least 4 or 5 times in different colors. If you like those, you might like reebok classics or sauconys.
