White Jean Jacket? or vest it?

I found a cute white denim jacket at H&M that was clearanced for $7.50...I really like the way it looks and fits but I am wondering when a white jacket is appropriate. I am in the Deep South and we have HOT summers that last easily from April to October if not longer. Jackets just don't happen in the summer and I don't work in freezing temps or go out to eat often enough to justify it for summer. If I can wear it in the Fall/Spring it might be a keeper BUT if the Labor Day/Memorial Day white rule is still a rule, I am thinking about chopping the sleeves to make a vest. I have a couple denim vests I am enjoying and think a white one might be fun but I hate to attack a new jacket with scissors if I should keep it as is. WDYT?

In the summer I still wear denim jackets and cardigans grocery shopping or at the mall or at movies. The times I haven't I've been shivering in the frozen food aisle. Also I don't think the no-white after a certain date thing is something people follow anymore? Or maybe there is a brief period in the fall where it is rarer, but winter white is definitely a thing.

I remember I used to be cold around town in the summer before I started toting kids around everywhere. I think the stress and physical exertion of dealing with my 2 year old negates any cold temperatures I encounter! LOL plus I am always in such a rush I don't get cold the way I used to! Winter white....hmmm! Thanks for the feedback!

I grew up in the Deep South and can I ever remember how very hot and humid the summers were/are...I think you would use the vest more than a denim jacket...The white jacket can go throughout the year...New rule..white after Labor Day rocks...If you want to have a right now piece to wear, chop off the sleeves of that white jacket and enjoy..Later, you can look for a white denim jacket to wear in cooler temps...

Living in central Texas I can say that I've only worn my white denim jacket two times and I've recently decided to move it to my "sell" pile. I don't do denim vests but if you like them, and the jacket is $7.50, I say go for it. And yes, you can certainly wear white any time you want - esp. in the south!

I found a similar deal but didn't need another white jacket. I knew I would wear off white outside of summer, but not bright white. So I dyed my jacket with tea (info online). Worked great, low low cost. I could always bleach it back again if I wanted, but it have loved it off white.
