White denim jacket fit check

My summer topper collection is almost complete but I had struggled to find a non-optic where denim jacket until now. (Optic white near my face makes me look like a liver patient.)

I wanted this in a PL, but all Banana Republic has in store is a PM. It won’t button on the bottom, but that’s okay. Is it too small otherwise?

PSA - the dress underneath is stunning. It has horizontal lines right where my hips widen or considerably from my waist, so even if I were in the market, I’d pass. I wanted some idea of how the jacket would look with a dress, which is what I grabbed it for, and it did help. Took an extra pic in case anyone is curious and just hasn’t had enough of dresses this season....

Cropped fit for wearing with dresses. As long as it’s comfy, I’d keep. Of course, it would be nice to try the PL just to be sure.

kellygirl, it’s comfortable enough. I’d have to order the PL if I wanted it. The regular L was ridiculously large.

Oh, Angie, the dress is tempting but hard for me to justify. I buy more dresses than I need every single summer. This summer has been better because I have been pickier, and I did purge many old ones that no longer looked good. If I want the dress, I’d probably have to return the one from Anthro. This one has more work wearability, so point in its favor.

As to the jacket, I actually have very few jackets that I am able to layer over sleeves during any season. I am used to it. The purpose for this is to be a topper for sleeveless items while I’m at the office and in the evening during the summer. Also, I tried on enough bright white wedding dresses back in the day to know it makes me look ill when it’s near my face. White that is even just slightly off-white is a vast improvement. Bright white is one of the few colors I feel I can’t wear, so I don’t feel too bad about it, especially because I can wear things in the same family.

That area of my upper hips is a sensitive issue for me. I don’t mind the size (yay curves) but am always afraid of looking too va-va-voom to be comfortable. My hubs would argue with me on that one.

I've been looking to replace a white denim jacket that was too tight for two years now. I declare VICTORY!

Looks great. Make sure you stretch your arms forward and up to make sure you have enough room through the shoulders. That's the point that always gets me with jackets.

Thanks, Becky! I have no problem moving my arms around. I have small shoulders for my frame, so that's not surprising. There's enough ease in that area and all down the arms.

Both dress and jacket look wonderful on you. Angie asked great questions to consider when buying any jacket. It sounds like you feel this one will work for you. I have denim jackets in smaller, cropped sizes and a similar wash in a larger, longer more roomy size. I tend to wear the smaller short ones with dresses and skirts and the longer, bigger ones with pants. My white denim jacket is in between and mostly gets worn with dresses but will work ok, I think, for pants and over tops with sleeves that are not bulky.

I’ve just bought a white denim jacket. Tags are still on because it’s such a new idea to me- white denim over a dress. Still playing with it. Would love to hear more from the group about the benefits of a white jean jacket for summer.

Thanks all! If I were to buy the dress, I would need to return another recent acquisition that my husband really loves. Or I would need to start instituting a 2 in, 1 out policy for dresses. I purged some at the start of the season, but have almost bought back up to that number. I have a problem. The problem is whether the dress looks better than to I could purge from my closet. Probably?

Jessikams, I wear a lot of prints with whites in the summer, and I like denim jackets as toppers for my freezing office. They feel less frumpy than cardigans in many cases. This picture is not a dress, but since the skirt has a print, this gives an idea of what I’m talking about. I like how the white contrasts the blue but also ties everything together. (Ignore the ugly orange tote!) Team Wear!

Angie, it's the other dress he likes better. He says it's "more me." He hates prints on himself but loves the crazy prints I choose for myself, go figure. He did not see me in this one in person, though, which may be a factor. I think this one would get more use, as this Anthro dress would be strictly for weekends or date nights. If I can choose two other dresses to purge, I can have the BR dress. It probably does look better than a couple of dresses I could choose from my closet, so there's that. I previously put aside a different striped dress that doesn't look as good on me as it did last year.

The Anthro dress has adjustable straps, so it doesn't even need to go to the tailor. Yay!

Ok, I begin to understand about the white denim jacket. Thanks for the details! I agree it’s cuter than a cardigan. I gave my white jacket a whirl this weekend for a short trip, and it was great to have something that could go with dress OR blue jeans.

I agree that it’s more versatile for travel, Jessikams. I wouldn’t wear my blue denim jacket with blue jeans, so the white will do double duty.

Barbara Diane, here is the fitting room picture. The straps can be adjusted to make the fit better than it is here.

I purged three other dresses so I’ll be getting the BR dress too. I’m trying one in, two out but was able to go one better. It turns out some of the dresses I had on hand didn’t look right to my eye anymore. I think it’s because some summer stuff ended up shrinking when I ran everything through the dryer during a bed bug scare last year (perils of city living).
