white crop blazer - keep? alter?

My JCPenney 'sateen' blazer came. I would agree with the review that says it's not quite sateen finish, although it is more than just a cotton woven.
I like it! But I worry it's a little boxy. Not terribly so, but . . .
Perhaps an open front has to be a little boxy just by design? I would certainly consider a hidden hook & eye closure or even putting on a fun statement button.

I like it as is Mo - I don't find it overly boxy. And I like how you've styled it here. I vote to keep.

It is washable, hooray! I have about 5 outfits I'd planned in my head, but this was not one of them, it sort of just happened after changing out my shirt I was wearing and putting it into the growing purge pile.

I don't know if I would have noticed it if you hadn't mentioned it, but it does kindof look like it's missing something-- like a button. I don't think it looks like it needs to be buttoned, though, if that makes sense?

Okay, here's my weird contribution for the day! I have this thing about jackets or tops with sleeves that end right at the bottom of the garment--it just looks blocky and wrong to me. That's what the sleeves are doing, which is what is making it seem boxy I'm thinking, vs. the actual cut of the jacket, which seems fine.

I love the idea and the price is right, but the lack of button and the possible flimsiness is off-putting... Is this going to be a workhorse or a just for fun item?

Mo, have you tried it with other items? The white bermudas are making it look like a Florida "suit" to me. I love that it is washable and could be altered to be more fitted. I think adding an interesting decorative button - a ittle higher than those slant pockets would be a great addition - and scrunching the sleeves up just a bit further would change the bottom line. I'd try it with denim shorts, jeans, black crops, etc. I'd also try it with more fitted tops under it. A nice tank maybe.

ah, mixed feelings on this one! I should add it's out of the box and wrinkled, not necessarily poor construction. I just don't have an iron here . . . heck we don't even have a couch to sit on! I have to wonder if I didn't specifically mention Penney's if that would have made an impact on perceptions. It's fully lined and looks well made to me, if not terribly fitted.
I'll have to let it hang for a while and then try some of the ideas I had. Some I can't because some items were left behind in CA. But I can try these here:

over my cornflower blue dress with the python flat sandals
with drapey white ON tee and red moto zipper skinnies
with my new black and white dot cowl tank top and black satin cigarette pants
over my mod print shift dress

Perhaps I'll give it a try again in a day or two with all these

Because you are nice and lean, the boxiness of it is not a deal-breaker, in my opinion. It's true that it creates a strong horizontal line, but it doesn't make you look chunky. You just don't have enough chunk going on...

I'm with Jonesy in thinking it's the sleeve length, not the body, that gives the boxy look. Try it with the outfits you've listed. If you like the look, then keep; if you still have doubts, send it back and look for something better.

Mo - can you roll/push up the sleeves? Some of the boxiness comes from the sleeve length and the hem-length of the jacket ending at the same point. One or the other needs to be changed - and obviously its going to have to be the sleeves! If I were you and I loved it, I'd try to add some type of front closure to it, because I think that at the cropped length a fitted silhouette is more flattering than a boxy one. Also, not crazy about it with the white bermudas - but then, I'm not a real fan of white "bottoms" anyway, so it may just be my own hang-up! What other items were you thinking of wearing it with?

ETA - I should have read the other comments first - other people had already mentioned the length of the sleeves and length of jacket! I say try it with some of your other items and see what you think!

I say hang in the bathroom the next time you shower, then style it and repost. It has great sleeve-scrunching potential.

I really *want* to like this because I love the idea of it on you, Mo - but I see the same thing that others mentioned about the "flimsiness" that just doesn't pass my quality smell test. You have a couple of other white cropped jackets that, while more on the casual side, I like a lot better than this one.

My first reaction was that it looks slightly too large - I wonder if that is making it look flimsy to some? Even my blazers that ARE flimsy look better when the structure of my body backs them up.

I like Claire's idea of steaming it in the bathroom and then try it on again. At this moment I am questioning the quality. I like the idea of it though.

Answering before I read other comments....I think the jacket itself will work, but with a shorter layer than the red top pictured and add some long necklaces!

Mo, any new pics? I'm not against Penneys at all. I've bought clothes at my grocery store! But I hold them to the same standard as Nordstrom, F21 and the thrift store - which is a change from my old ways.

Not looking at other comments, I like the blazer as is. I don't mind the boxy style, it contrasts nicely with the soft top underneath. I would shy away from pairing the blazer with a crisp shirt though, that may be too much structure then.

Okay, today I will try it on with some of my outfit ideas. I hate to say, the wrinkles have not really fallen out on their own, though. Drats not having an iron here!
I'm feeling 50/50 about it right now. Part of me is in the mindset that if I were to be doing the only 12 items a year, this would not make the cut. Another part of me says, hey not everything is going to be a 10 right off the rack - cut yourself some slack.
