White boots - how to wear

Dear Fabbers, I would very much welcome advise on how to wear these white boots. I really do want to crack the white footwear this season, so I have white pointed kitten heel boots and also now these chunky flat boots. Very comfortable, warm, good for the weekends, a bit outside of my zone in terms of style, but that isn't a bad thing!

Can I and how can I wear them with skirts? I've tried them on with black opaques - doesn't look right - then with thicker knee high socks.

May be I should ditch the idea of wearing them with skirts and get another pair of jeans - these are two pairs of jeans I have looked at in Cos. Gorgeous thick cotton, I've tried on but they seem quite bulky on my smallish frame. I would prefer white but the brown do look very good with my hair.

Hmm well if it were me I would wear those particular shoes with blue jeans, or those brown Cos jeans you’ve pictured. I’m not sure they’re gonna work with a skirt or dress.... but feel free to ignore me you know I’m no expert

Jussie, actually, I really tend to agree - it might be heading too Victoriana with a dress / skirt.

Hey, these are seriously cute boots. And they look smart too! Congrats for cracking the white footwear as you say. I see you do it beautifully.

As for your question, it's hard to judge when I can't see the whole person. Everybody has a different body and proportions, some people would wear it well with skirts, others better with pants or both.

For what I am able to see, I find the combination white boots grey tights very very nice. I can totally imagine a pencil, slightly above-the-knee denim skirt on top, preferably in a washed out or lighter shade, and mabe possibly a bit distressed, depending on your general style and environment.

Also possible with those wonderful tights: a pair of sturdier, dressy shorts, bermudas or culottes (like tweed for example).

Grey form fitting full-length jeans. Skinnies: tucked; bootlegs: worn over.

Olive or army green roomy cargos.

I would definitively try then with socks or faux socks sleeves popping out at the ankle, in a soft color. The faux or real sock will visually elongate the boots' neck, which might help you feel good wearing those with skirts and dresses. A look I'd try with socks on would be with tights + cropped palazzo style pants.

Krish, phew, thank you for your comments. I'm feeling slightly easier about them.

You have given me some super ideas. Thank you for your time thinking about this. I think part of the issue is that I am not used to at all lighter bottoms - the very large majority of mine are black - so your idea of a denim skirt / culottes sounds good as does roomy cargos, especially in olive green.

kkards, the wide jeans look super and with black jeans looks good - that is how I wore them yesterday. I like with the cute socks.

I think they could look good with this skirt - it is lighter IRL. I would need lighter legs rather than darker, but it might be an option.

I like what you've done with the black ponte pants and the grey/pinstripe pants. It has a vintage ski wear look , which is really cool . Not sure about wearing them without a skirt without veering into Heidi territory.

You could try grey or mid-tone tights to blend the whiteness of the boots. (Oh I see that you’ve done that! I think the skirt needs to be a lighter colour, or a wooden fabric.)

I think you should get another pair of jeans though, as these boots go better with pants. I love the brown ones and think they would look smashing with your white boots.

They are terrific boots, Jane. They're like old fashioned ski boots. Very retro and fun. I'd wear them casually with jeans and pants (or leggings, if you do that) and a puffer! It would be possible to wear them with a skirt but only a very casual skirt. Something plaid maybe. With light grey tights?

I really like those boots ,they are like hiking boots.I would suggest wearing a pair of thick socks over your tights and rolling the socks down to form a cuff effect just above the boot if you are going to wear them with a skirt.oh and the tights look better if they have some texture to them like a cable effect for example.

Thank you Suz and Cardiff Girl. I am happy that the boots are casual with jeans only and here they are going earlier with DH in our local town for an early evening stroll.

I find myself smiling as I view your pics, because your boots remind me of my ski boots bought 1970. I loved them. Most ski boots were black at the time. And I thought my new white ones were so pretty and feminine. They were much admired by my friends.

However, your boots are even prettier, and you can absolutely wear them with a skirt. I like #1 and 2 very much. The contrast with grey is soft and appealing, but I also like the sharp contrast with black in #5 and 6. It all depends on your style and taste.

Just a tip you may want to try when wearing white footwear: Repeating the white colour somewhere on your upper half (i.e. in a scarf/shawl) might make the outfit look and feel more balanced. I often did this when my hair was dark or auburn. Now that my hair is turning white, white footwear feels very natural (= the bookending effect).

Perfect with those grey tights, I think I'd like it if those tights were actually leggings or very skinny ponte pants, and then a long jumper or cardigan over to avoid leggings-as-pants. Also awesome with your jeans. What a beautiful castle! I want to see that one day. I have so many pics still of castles from our 1988-9 UK stint and our other 2002-3 UK stint. Also my briefer trips to my sister who lives in Wootton near Boars Hill, Oxford. Castles are so not a thing in NZ as we are such a young country ( founding document 1840).
Would love to meet you one day if I come over to visit my sister again. Hubby hates the long-haul and I haven't been for years She comes here- after all she is the one who left NZ aged 23 and never came back!

Agreeing with the others, i think light to medium jeans and leggings are the easiest for them, and/or if you have a coat or other winter accessories in white! I bought a furry grey scarf to go with my grey snowboots, to make them not seem as random.

Pants and leggings are a no brainer. Skirt is trickier. I like your outfit with the skirt, but see ‘potential for trouble’ with a coat. I’m guessing that would make for 5 different colours in one outfit and nothing unifying. I’d be tempted to, oh, find a long knit scarf to match your sweater or grey tights...

Build a complement, Jane. Pick up the Winter white in a scarf, top or topper. Patterned or solid. Or in a belt. You can absolutely wear these boots with skirts and dresses. The hose will need special attention - and that you sort out from outfit to outfit.
