Which white jeans? plus 2 new sweaters

I'm determined to replace my white straights this year with ones that I love. Here are two contenders:

1/2/3: JCrew white matchstick (don't pay attention to length - they're turned under)

4/5/6: BR white skinny ankle jean (which aren't "ankle" on me)

The BR's have a slightly higher rise, and don't "muffin" me quite as much. I'm wondering if the JCrews seem a bit "butt bunchy". I had to size up in both. (An aside rant: I have the matchsticks in the same size (28) in a dark blue wash that are seriously BF jeans on me. I hate it when different washes are sized differently).

The 2 sweaters are both from BR: a blue/white striped sweater that I will definitely keep and a green leaf sweater - I love the color, and it suits my "organic, botanical" side. What do you think?

KEEP the sweaters. (We can be sweater cousins....I have the navy BR one...) Love that leafy one on you, too!

As for the jeans. Hmm. I agree that the J Crew ones are butt bunchy. Have you worn them around for a while? Do they stretch out/ down? Otherwise, I might be tempted to size up again and see. But I suspect the rise just isn't working. Which is too bad, because I think I like them better in other respects.

The BR ones appear to be a slightly thinner fabric. Is that the case? How do they feel?

Gosh, they both look good to me! I love the sweaters, particularly the striped one. Thank you lo much for showing it with white jeans. I still lean toward fear when it comes to mixing white and cream and you've just shown me a great example of how good and how modern it looks--even better than matching exactly, I'm starting to think.

Suz, the fabric feels to be the same weight for both. Are you not liking the BRs? I will try wearing both around, but I'm quite certain that I'll be swimming in the next size up of the JCrews (I carry all my weight in my love handles, I'm afraid).

Thanks for the boost, Claire. I also wouldn't have thought about "cream with white" before Angie's posts about mixing them.

They both look pretty similar right now, but I agree that you should wear them around the house for an hour then check the rear view. Today's denims are all over the board for stretching (unless they have NO stretch at all, then you're pretty safe)

Love both sweaters Around here you can use both and they seem perfect for now - end of winter (hahaha) and spring.

Especially love the leopard with the green

ETA: if I had to pick NOW, I'm leaning ever so slightly toward the JCrews FWIW

No, I don't dislike the BR ones, Sarah. They look good. I think maybe they are a slightly sharper optic white or something...they don't come across on my monitor the same way. But if I weren't comparing the two, I wouldn't even notice it, KWIM?

In that case, I would wear them both for a few hours indoors to see how they feel. Whichever one feels best is your jean!

Good advice, Suz and Sara. I'm wearing the BRs right now and trying to keep the black cat away LOL. Suz, the BRs are SLIGHTLY more optic than the JCrews.

Sara, I'm heading out for a ski in a little while because I'm just going to soak up this winter while we've got it! I hope the plowing is better in your neck of the woods than in St. Paul :-/

I prefer the matchsticks. I think they look better with the slightly lower rise and think they fit better through the legs and butt. Love the sweaters!

These both look really good Sarah but I prefer the fit of the BR ones slightly. I prefer white jeans to be a little looser and the fit of the BR's seem better across the back of the thighs IMO. LOVE the silver shoes with the white jeans - so fab!

And the sweaters? Yes to both!

Can't really offer much of an opinion on the pants, but I adore the green sweater on you!

OMGoodness - that green sweater is fabulous on you, especially tucked and belted! The leopard belt is (to my fashion novice eye) so unexpected with the sweater and looks great.
As for the jeans, they both look fine, but agree that if they stretch much you could end up with a droopy rearview. How tall are you? Is there any chance you could wear either of these styles in petite ( if they are available).

Both sweaters are great!

I prefer the Matchsticks. They look whiter and thicker. And are a slightly better fit.

I think both jeans look nice and I love the green sweater with your coloring. I have a past year's JCrew white jean and it stretches about a full size (maybe 2!) in 4-6 hours wear so I highly recommend wearing them a bit like Suz recommended before making your final decision. Perhaps JCrew has improved the material in the interim though.

I like the fit of the 1st ones best - can't remember which ones they are - but to me, the rise is much better in them, then the 2nd ones. I also really like the blue striped sweater - its beautiful with your coloring. I also really like the pattern, as well as the "idea' of the botanical print on the 2nd sweater, but to me, the green is too "muddy" looking and doesn't look near as good with you coloring - but, it may just be the way it looks on my screen. Both of them look as though they fit you really well!

My favorite part --- the boy playing the piano. Gotta love it when kids practice!

I prefer the Matchsticks, but not by a whole lot. I love sweater #1, I like sweater #2, but I spent years avoiding this green (which looks good on you -- btw), so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Thanks, everyone. I'm glad you like the sweaters - they will go to Europe with me. Hooray!

After wearing them for awhile, I've determined that the BR jeans are definitely too big in the waist, and they can't really be worn "slouchy" because of the higher rise, so it will be the JCrews, although I will wear them some more to make sure they don't stretch out too much.

BethAnn- LOL, don't get the impression that he always peacefully does his practicing while I do my thing. This was definitely a rare occurrence!

I think you've decided wisely. I prefer the fit of the matchsticks on you (although the rear pockets on the BR are a bit better - the rest of the jean is just too big). I buy my matchsticks on ebay so I have 4 pair in the "same size" and they run the gamut from skinny to super slouchy BF. I thought it was just the original owners drying them or the wash, but I suspect they may have started out differently. It is annoying.

I prefer the thickness of the jcrew (or the look of thickness) of the material - wonder what the % of stretch is? That said, I haven't had great success with jcrew jeans/pants fitting me (they are usually too tight in the rear for me) but I do wear their shorts all the time in summer (go figure). I have 2 pair of Levi white slim jeans I bought a few years back and they are both going strong. I also wonder if AE jeans come in white - I'm very happy with the faded blues I bought from them recently. I do tend to size up as I'm a bit in the middle on jeans (between 8-10 so I almost always get 10).

I really like both of the sweaters on you, so I'm happy to hear that you've decided to keep them. They'll be perfect for your travel capsule.

As far as the jeans, the Matchsticks look great. The advice to wear them around the house for a while is excellent. I wish I had heeded that for the Gap Always Skinnies I just got that stretched after a few hours to be so huge as to be unwearable- Grrrr!

Not sure about the current white ones, but my J Crew Matchsticks have not stretched excessively, so hopefully those won't.

I'm going to be a weirdo and say I prefer the BR ones, though I concede that they are not perfect. I have a similar issue in terms of the ole love handles, and I absolutely *hate* when pants fit me like those J. Crew ones. They will never stay up (want to tug down, because my hips are narrower), and I can't wear lots of tops with them because of the lack of smooth line above the waistband. I have learned to avoid bottoms like this, because they will quickly become orphans. I like both sweaters.

Thanks for your thoughts, texstyle, Marcy, and Jonesy - I may actually go back to JCrew and try a few different pants in the same size - I have another pair of matchsticks (a size down, ironically) that aren't so tight around the waist. And I wonder if the "shorts" vs. "longs" may also fit a bit differently in the waist. It's worth a try...
